The SUPERNAIT 3 has undergone significant performance improvements, including the integration of a phono stage, making it the ideal partner for turntables, as well as streamers, CD players, or any other music source you wish to enjoy with Naim's signature sound.

POWER AND MUSICALITY

The latest NAIT integrated amplifiers are the result of six years of research and development, where the focus was on improving the amplifier sections to deliver an even more engaging and intimate musical experience. The SUPERNAIT 3 is equipped with upgraded power amplifiers, which are perfect for driving loudspeakers or headphones. It also features a built-in phono stage, making it an ideal choice for turntables. Whether you're using it with a streamer, CD player, or any other music source, the SUPERNAIT 3 delivers the signature Naim sound with exceptional performance.

A CONCENTRATE OF TECHNOLOGIES

This device features a Class A preamp output stage that also acts as a headphone amplifier. It uses ceramic heatsink technology to minimize capacitive coupling for optimal sound quality. The inputs are individually decoupled and hand-wired to reduce noise and interference. Additionally, it uses ultra-low-noise, constant current sources for internal switching. The SUPERNAIT 3 is upgradable with external power supplies, power amplifiers, and cabling upgrades to enhance the performance of all sources.

Features

With our meticulous attention to detail, the SUPERNAIT 3 includes features that deliver an authentic musical performance.

• Class A headphone amplification

• Alps Blue Velvet volume and balance control

• Reed relay input selection

• Ceramic insulators for the power transistors

• Galvanically isolation of control and audio circuits

• Microphonic-isolating PCB mounts

Upgrading from the NAIT XS3 to the SUPERNAIT 3 comes with advanced features that improve the sound quality. These features include a full 24V DR module built-in, which uses Naim's Discrete Regulation technology to provide purer power and better performance throughout the pre-amp stage. A larger toroidal transformer in the power supply delivers greater power and faster recovery, while additional leaded through-hole components in the signal path minimize negative effects of vibration and transient thermal conditions. The chassis-mounted input sockets are hand-wired to the circuit boards to offer enhanced vibration isolation, and the full Alps Blue Velvet balance control ensures a balanced sound output.

Technology & Craft

Over the years, our R&D team has made significant upgrades to this product. The voltage gain stage speed has been doubled, which results in a corresponding doubling of the rate at which the speaker output stage can react. The second gain stage transistors have been optimized, and they no longer require shielding by a cascode stage transistor. This change has led to less amplifier stabilization that has doubled the slew rate and improved sound quality.

The phono circuit topology comprises: the gain stage, passive equalisation, and final gain and active equalisation. This unique design enables excellent noise performance, extended RIAA equalisation, and great overload headroom. All RIAA equalisation capacitors and resistors are 'through-hole' mounted film designs, with low microphonic pickup and excellent transient performance. As phono stages are 1000x more sensitive than other inputs, this greatly benefits the sound quality. The input impedance is 47kΩ in parallel with 470pF capacitive loading, and the gain is perfect for 5mV moving magnet cartridges. Major performance with added love for vinyl.

Naim Supernait 3 — musical, punchy integrated amplifier

The Naim Supernait 3 refines the classic Naim voice with muscular authority and surprising finesse. Reviewers praise its tight, controlled bass, delicate midrange and a clear, well-layered soundstage; voices from HiFi Choice, Roger Kanno and What Hi-Fi? highlighted its dynamics and imaging. The amp’s standout practical addition is a moving-magnet phono stage, paired with an upgraded power supply and toroidal transformer that lift transient speed and grip while preserving Naim’s celebrated pace, rhythm and timing. Built into a hefty, well-engineered chassis with DIN/RCA flexibility and PSU upgrade options, the Supernait 3 suits vinyl lovers, two-channel purists and anyone seeking a compact but expandable system anchor—an often-cited strong value at this level.

Tone Audio

"Not only do I like this one enough to hand it an Exceptional Value Award for 2020, but I have also purchased the review sample."

Pros

  • Powerful, dynamic delivery with tight, controlled bass and excellent pace/timing that often belies the 80W rating.
  • High-quality built-in moving‑magnet phono stage that handles MM cartridges cleanly and makes the amp a strong one-box option for vinyl listeners.
  • Robust engineering and upgrade path — heavy toroidal PSU, decoupled internals, DIN/RCA I/O and optional external power supplies for future improvements.

&

Cons

  • No moving‑coil phono input onboard, so MC users must add an external stage to get full cartridge compatibility.
  • Headphone amplifier is convenient but described by reviewers as "good rather than great" for demanding cans—limited headroom for very power-hungry headphones.

Dynamics

91/100

The amp's hefty toroidal PSU and discrete regulation earn repeated praise for pace, timing and authority (Sound Advice, ToneAudio, SoundStage Solo). Reviewers describe "effortless pace and timing" and dynamics that often "belie its 80W" rating; minor limits at very low listening levels or on extremely capacitive loads are mentioned but do not materially detract.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Multiple reviewers report a believable, well-layered soundstage with precise imaging—images that "adhere like glue" and a staging that "extends beyond the speakers" (The Sound Advocate, HiFi Choice, SoundStage Solo). The amp provides clear depth and width and places complex multi-layered material with authority (Audiophilepure).

Build Quality

90/100

Build is repeatedly described as solid and substantial: heavy 14kg chassis, large toroidal PSU, decoupled boards and careful relay switching for inputs (Sound Advice, The Audiophile Man, SoundStage Solo). Minor criticisms include the tactile feel of the volume/balance controls (ToneAudio, The Audiophile Man), but overall component quality and layout are excellent.

Features Connectivity

88/100

Well-featured for an analog-focused integrated: built-in MM phono stage, 6.35mm headphone jack, variable sub RCA out, preamp/bi-amp DIN outputs, multiple RCA/DIN inputs and remote control are all present (specs and multiple reviews). Reviewers note the intentional lack of digital inputs/DAC as a design choice to protect analog purity, which keeps the feature set strong for analog users but stops short of network/DAC conveniences.

Value for Money

96/100

Across reviews the Supernait 3 is repeatedly called an exceptional buy or class leader for its price (The Sound Advocate: "exceptional buy"; ToneAudio and SoundStage Solo note it rivals more expensive rivals), and reviewers highlight that for under ~$6k you get near top-tier sound and build. Multiple reviewers explicitly praise its price-to-performance, with one reviewer even purchasing the sample, supporting a high value rating.
