Mingus Quintet 2 Roaring successor. Our second generation Mingus Quintet 2 has strong foundations of proven design to build on. Using the CELL technology drivers that the Mingus series relies on, it’s full-range, with deep bass and wide dynamics.

What you get

Confident control.

Mingus Quintet 2 has five drivers with immaculate control and power, including a pure diamond tweeter, pure ceramic mid-range and aluminium sandwich bass domes.  We’ve also geared the first order crossover for a more open, clean and dynamic sound.

Resonance control is greatly improved with an advanced damping mat and solid wood tops and bottoms for a more neutral cabinet. Marten Isolators further reduce resonance by separating the cabinet from the supporting surface.

Diamond domes

Pure and brilliant.

Pure diamond is the ultimate material for speaker membranes – that’s why we use a Cell diamond tweeter from Accuton. In the high-frequency range, its stiffness-to-weight ratio and internal sound velocity are unsurpassed.

The sonic character of our diamond tweeter is not what you might expect. Our crossover has been carefully designed to bring out the pure and clear sound of this precious stone, softening any harshness.

Diamond is also the best heat conductor known to man, which is essential for loudspeaker membranes, providing the best heatsink for the voice coil – resulting in high power handling and very low compression.

Ceramic domes

Advanced tech, natural sound.

Stiff ceramic is light, yet extremely rigid, making it one of the best materials for speaker membranes – it’s also known as Sapphire.

Our ceramic domes have a high internal damping factor, due to a refined electrochemical process. The membrane has a high material resonance frequency, meaning distortion is minimal. This offers a level of clarity that is perfect for high end speaker domes.

Bass drivers

Low frequencies. Low distortion.

Cell bass driver units have long excursion, extremely low distortion levels and a hidden surround. Made of aluminium sandwich honeycomb, the drivers offer rich, dynamic bass performance with a powerful presentation.

Cabinets

Form and function unified.

Mingus Quintet 2 is tapered to create less sound reflections and a sleek form. Crafted with the finest materials, it is finished with solid wood tops and bottoms to reduce resonance.

We use specially selected, medium-density fibreboard with optimum rigidity to create high-quality, resonance-free cabinets. The internal structure and bracing keep the cabinet rigid, whilst inside the resonance is further dampened with advanced materials.

Each cabinet is finished with precision veneer and lacquering. The lacquer is carefully built up of 7 layers, each hand-polished in between drying.

Tops and bottom

Finish how you want

Mingus Quintet 2 can be finished with tops and bottoms in solid wood or high-gloss lacquered fibreboard.

Opt for, carefully selected walnut or oak to give you a warm, natural finish, or for those more bold among us, there are five contemporary gloss finishes: Piano Black, Piano Grey, Piano Plum, Piano Red and Piano Gold.

Internal wiring

Premium cables for pure sound.

We use Jorma internal wiring, for exemplary quality and performance. Handmade in Sweden, the cables use separate + and – for enhanced shielding and the highest quality copper.

This offers natural, transparent sound; the perfect choice for our speakers.

Cables are integral components, so they must work harmoniously with our design and build. Jorma delivers exactly what a Marten speaker needs.

Feet

A new level of isolation.

The reduction of resonance is important to the design of our speakers – it can mean the difference between a good speaker and a great speaker. With IsoAcoustics we created Marten Isolators. This precision product allows the cabinet to be completely isolated from the floor, reducing resonance and distortion – leaving the soundstage free.

  • Dynamic bass with increased power and control
  • Natural openness and clarity
  • Optimised for cabinet weight
  • Resists lateral movement and oscillations
  • Reduces internal reflections
  • Suitable for carpet (with discs)

Crossover

First class as always.

The first order crossover has been integral to Mingus since inception. With refinements, today’s crossover is even better – it’s more open, cleaner and more dynamic. And very powerful in the bass frequencies.

The first order crossover makes it possible to have perfect time and phase coherence; and flawless time coincidence. This means that all registers are generated at the exact same moment, as it was recorded.

Upgrade

Statement Edition.

Mingus Quintet 2 can be upgraded to Statement Edition, featuring Jorma Statement internal cables and higher quality crossover components.

Your space

Lounge and listener friendly.

Mingus Quintet 2 is suited to a wide range of rooms, offering true audiophile sound in a sleek, contemporary package. And with 4 levels of bass control, it is easy to place in smaller living spaces.

Marten Mingus Quintet 2 — refined, reference-floorstanding performance

Marten’s Mingus Quintet 2 refines its predecessor into a muscular, articulate floorstander that pairs depth and authority with extraordinary top-end finesse. The design centres on a triple-woofer low end — three 7" aluminium-sandwich drivers and a substantial 63 kg cabinet — delivering what Marten specifies as extension to 24 Hz with controlled, room-filling authority. A 5" ceramic mid driven by a first-order crossover yields coherent, natural midrange, while a 20 mm diamond tweeter pushes clarity and air well beyond auditioning norms toward 100 kHz.

Imaging is wide and layered, supported by careful crossover topology and precision driver matching; dynamics benefit from heavy-duty construction and a 300 W power rating when partnered with capable amplification. The Mingus Quintet 2’s cabinet work — fibre-laminate walls, solid-wood top and bottom, seven-stage lacquer and a chromed outrigger with isolators — underscores Marten’s focus on mechanical control and finish. Internal Jorma wiring and WBT Nextgen terminals complete the specification.

Ideal for audiophiles seeking a passive, reference-leaning loudspeaker that rewards high-quality electronics, the Mingus Quintet 2 is a clear evolutionary step for the series. As SoundStage Solo reports, the model is a careful refinement of Marten’s design ethos.

Pros

  • Reference-class low-frequency extension and authority from three 7" woofers and a heavily braced, 63 kg cabinet (claimed down to 24 Hz).
  • Exceptional treble detail and air courtesy of the 20 mm diamond tweeter and reported extension toward 100 kHz.
  • Coherent, natural midrange supported by a 5" ceramic mid driver and a first-order crossover, aided by Jorma internal wiring for clean driver integration.
  • Top-tier build and finish: fibre-laminate cabinet with solid-wood panels, advanced damping, seven-stage lacquer and stainless-steel outriggers with isolators.

&

Cons

  • Price is not yet announced and, given the specification and finish, a premium retail position is likely (value will depend on final pricing).
  • Modest 88 dB sensitivity and a nominal 6 Ω impedance mean owners should plan on pairing the speakers with a capable amplifier to fully realise dynamic potential.

Sound Quality

Bass

95/100

Specifications indicate three 7" aluminium sandwich woofers, a heavy 63 kg cabinet and a claimed extension to 24 Hz (±2 dB). That driver complement and low-frequency spec point to reference-class extension and authority for a tower, with the cabinet mass and 300 W rating supporting controlled, powerful bass. Sensitivity of 88 dB means benefits from a robust amplifier but does not materially limit low-frequency performance.

Mid

92/100

A 5" ceramic mid and first-order crossover at 370 Hz suggest excellent coherence and natural timbre through the critical midband. The use of quality internal wiring (Jorma) and attention to crossover design indicate accurate vocal presence and smooth crossover blending with the tweeter/woofers.

Treble

93/100

The 0.75" diamond tweeter and a stated extension to 100 kHz point to superb detail, air and resolution at the top end with very low distortion. Design choices imply refined, extended treble without a tendency toward harshness when properly partnered with electronics.

Soundstage Imaging

93/100

Three-way first-order crossovers, a high-quality diamond tweeter and precision driver complement support wide, well-layered imaging and strong depth. The supplied mirror-polished stainless stands with Marten Isolators help stable imaging and minimize cabinet influence on soundstage.

Dynamics

92/100

The substantial cabinet mass, triple-woofer layout and 300 W power rating promise strong macro- and micro-dynamics with authoritative slam. The relatively modest 88 dB sensitivity means ultimate dynamic authority depends on a capable amplifier, but headroom and control are clearly designed into the system.

Robust construction is evident: 25–40 mm fibre laminate cabinet walls, solid wood top/bottom, advanced damping mats, Jorma internal wiring and WBT Nextgen terminals. Heavy 63 kg net weight and precision stainless stands reflect top-tier materials, finish and mechanical engineering.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive tower design; single-wire WBT Nextgen terminals. Passive baseline applied (no DSP/app/streaming expected); no bi-wire or contour switches listed.

Value for Money

72/100

Price is not provided; Marten is a premium brand and the spec sheet indicates high-end materials and engineering, implying a correspondingly high retail price. Without a price point or third-party value commentary, score is conservative to reflect likely premium cost versus alternatives.
