The DP-450USB pairs a smooth, forgiving presentation with a superb S-shaped tonearm, removable headshell and fuss-free electronic speed selection. Andrew Robinson found its upgrade path especially compelling: a better cartridge unlocks far more focus and musical energy. Add the switchable phono stage and striking design, and this is an approachable deck with genuine enthusiast potential.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Excellent S-shaped tonearm and removable headshell provide a strong, cartridge-upgrade-friendly foundation.
Easy setup and operation, with convenient electronic speed selection that avoids moving the belt.
Stylish, attractive design with a switchable built-in phono stage for flexible system matching.
&
Cons
Supplied cartridge delivers a smooth but soft, unfocused sound with limited dynamics and detail.
USB recording is easy to use but reviewers found its sound quality and practical value poor.
The unusual dust cover is awkward and provides limited protection from side-borne dust and debris.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 81/100
With its supplied cartridge, the DP-450USB is described as smooth and inoffensive rather than especially vivid or compelling. The arm is a clear strength, and cartridge upgrades reportedly unlock considerably more focus, texture and musical capability from the deck.
Overall Sound
78/100
Andrew Robinson found the standard presentation smooth and unobtrusive, but also called it "vanilla" and short on excitement. He specifically noted rolled-off dynamics, limited definition and texture, and an unfocused soundstage with the supplied cartridge.
Speed Stability
81/100
The review highlights convenient internal electronic speed selection, allowing changes without moving the belt. Denon specifies 0.10% WRMS wow and flutter, while the available reviews offer little direct listening commentary on pitch consistency or speed drift.
Tonearm Performance
89/100
The S-shaped arm and removable headshell make cartridge changes straightforward, and Robinson calls the tonearm "fantastic." His successful moves to Ortofon 2M Red and 2M Blue cartridges also suggest that the arm provides a capable foundation for meaningful upgrades.
Noise Isolation
76/100
The reviews provide little direct information about motor noise, rumble, acoustic feedback or footfall sensitivity. No reviewer reports a conspicuous mechanical-noise problem, but there is not enough listening evidence to make a stronger claim about isolation.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
80/100
Reviewers find the DP-450USB attractive and generally thoughtfully designed, with Robinson calling it a looker. The main recurring reservation is its unusual dust cover: both reviewers find it awkward or decorative rather than genuinely useful, and the reviews say little about long-term durability or bearing execution.
Features Usability
88/100
The DP-450USB offers a switchable MM phono stage, USB recording, electronic speed selection and a removable-headshell S-shaped arm. Day-to-day operation is described as easy, although the dust cover is a nuisance and the USB-recording function is criticized for poor quality and limited usefulness.
Value for Money
76/100
Value commentary is distinctly reserved at the $799 asking price. Audiophilepure considers the less expensive DP-400 the better buy, while Andrew Robinson found the DP-450USB insufficiently competitive and difficult to recommend at its retail price, particularly given the weak USB feature.
