The strongest criticism concerns rhythmic precision: What Hi-Fi found the Alva ST insufficiently agile, with less drive and timing accuracy than Technics, Rega and Pro-Ject alternatives. The new low-mass arm is described by video reviewers as a competent tracker with a good counterweight and cueing lever. Against that, What Hi-Fi encountered excessive bearing free play and considered this disappointing quality control, a concern that materially tempers confidence in the arm.

Reviews do not report motor hum, bearing noise or overt rumble, and the deck is generally described as clean sounding. However, the lack of proper adjustable isolation feet drew criticism, with one reviewer recommending aftermarket isolation pucks.

The Alva ST is consistently described as premium-looking, solid and well engineered, with a substantial plinth that does not feel cheap despite its largely plastic construction. Its clean styling and 9kg overall mass add to the impression of a serious, well-finished deck, though the reported tonearm-bearing issue prevents an unqualified verdict.

This is unusually well equipped for a performance-oriented belt-drive deck, with Bluetooth streaming, a switchable built-in phono stage and a detachable-headshell tonearm. Reviewers found Bluetooth stable and genuinely useful for private listening, while the arm lift and general ownership experience were also positively received.

At roughly $699 in the US, reviewers regard the feature set as competitive against similarly priced alternatives, especially given the internal phono stage and Bluetooth capability. What Hi-Fi also noted that it brings much of the more expensive Alva TT V2's functionality to a lower price, although its sonic shortcomings mean it is not an automatic choice for sound-first buyers.
