The R 330

Like the Talis S 330, the Talis R 330 was born from the vision of achieving elegant design without sacrificing sound quality. The more compact body of the R 330 demanded all of our expertise in acoustic tuning and material craftsmanship to create a bookshelf speaker that makes no compromises, whether sonically or visually. As a two-way system, a single driver and a high-frequency dome handle the complete sound dispersion, ensuring seamless coherence. Slim, precisely engineered side panels connect to the WrapAround Baffle, maximising the internal volume without altering the speaker's refined silhouette. Whether finished in deep midnight black or a sleek, brushed silver, its hand-finished aluminium exudes understated luxury, making the R 330 a striking statement piece on any bookshelf or speaker stand.

The LS 300

The LS 300 speaker stand has been designed specifically for the Talis R 300/330. The bottom panel of the R 300/330 is screwed securely to the stand, ensuring that the combination is stable when erected. The loudspeaker cables can be routed very neatly down through the profiled tube of the LS 300, while the screw-fitting spikes or furniture glides provide sufficient space for the leads under the base plate. With its dimensions (HxWxD) of 67x26x33 mm, the LS 300 is the ideal addition to the R 300/330 for free-standing installation.

Two-Way System & Drivers

A two-way system is ideal for bookshelf speakers, as it uses only a bass driver and a tweeter for sound reproduction. The R 330 was designed to combine the characteristically spacious and natural sound of two-way systems with exceptionally clean, precise bass response, addressing a common limitation of traditional designs. For this purpose, the R 330 employs a bass driver modified from its sister model, the Talis S 330, further optimised for the specific demands of a two-way system in a compact enclosure. With its powerful magnetic drives and StarStabilizer membrane protection, even high sound levels remain comfortably within the R 330’s capabilities.
A single high-performance 17 cm driver provides the energy for the entire bass and midrange of the R 330. Its robust magnetic motor, large voice coil, and long-throw suspension—specifically engineered for bookshelf speakers—allow for high sound pressure levels even at the lowest frequencies, free from distortion. As one of only two drivers in the speaker, the R 330’s bass driver is subjected to unique demands: it must deliver the force of the bass range while also capturing the delicacy of the midrange.
As a decidedly audiophile response to these requirements, we implemented our StarStabilizer systems. These systems ensure piston-like operation of the driver through precisely calculated suspension components and prevent any breakup of the membrane with a specifically designed central reinforcement. This targeted structure not only preserves bass integrity but also protects the delicacy of the midrange, ensuring pure, unaltered sound across the entire frequency range.

Design & Construction

The design language of the Talis S 330 and R 330 bridges two eras of T+A aesthetics. Where their predecessors embodied the ethos of “timeless reduction,” the new Talis speakers reinterpret this with a philosophy of “classical modernity.” Black driver components allow the entire speaker to radiate a bold, sophisticated allure in dark tones or create a striking contrast against the silver aluminium enclosure. The WrapAround Baffle extends seamlessly into the side panels, blending into the gently tapered profile of the sides with an almost invisible bevel.
With meticulously balanced dimensions, the Talis speakers possess a slender form that elegantly conceals their generous internal volume. Hand-brushed aluminium surfaces lend each Talis speaker a distinct, refined texture while preserving the precision and consistency of high-end manufacturing. The entire internal structure has been crafted to maximise the available internal volume effectively. Despite compact external dimensions of just 37 cm x 21 cm x 28 cm, over 20 litres of space are dedicated to sound generation within.
The Talis speakers thus stand as an embodiment of our commitment to design loudspeakers with uncompromising audio quality, thoughtfully refined craftsmanship, and unique technological excellence.

WrapAround Baffle

In every T+A product, design serves the sound: only when an aesthetic complements true-to-life music reproduction does it become part of a T+A creation. The T+A WrapAround Baffle, used exclusively in the Talis series, takes this philosophy further by encasing the entire front baffle, allowing the transition into the cabinet body to occur only at a precisely calculated point along the rear of the front. No screws or fasteners disrupt this pure form, as all drivers and mounts are anchored internally.
Acoustically, this evolution of the T+A Organic Baffle prevents even the shortest high-frequency wavelengths from causing subtle yet perceptible colouration in the treble range. This innovative design ensures an accurate mid-to-high frequency response without interference, allowing sound to be experienced in its most pristine, unaltered form.

Tuning & Crossover

To let you experience the perfect T+A sound, all Talis speakers are equipped with our groundbreaking double-sided Fast Signal Response (FSR) crossovers. These crossovers are the technological heart of our Talis series, the key to an unparalleled sound profile and impressive dispersion characteristics. Thanks to a specially developed mass layer, the Talis speakers can process even the most powerful impulses and highest currents without any distortion. The result is flawless transient response and exceptional signal fidelity, rooted in precise technical calculations.
In the R 330, the FSR crossover optimally distributes electrical energy to the bass/midrange driver and the tweeter. Each nuance and detail of a musical piece effortlessly detaches from the compact enclosure with astonishing clarity and energy, as our FSR crossovers ensure perfect control over the high and low drivers across both frequency ranges.
To preserve signal integrity down to the finest detail, specially designed cables connect the speaker drivers to the FSR crossover.

Deliciously Crispy

Deep, punchy bass from a compact stand‑mount defines the Talis R 330, pairing airy, extended treble with precision imaging. Its aluminum enclosure and heavy damping deliver focused imaging and exceptional detail retrieval, as observed by John E. Johnson, Jr. at HomeTheaterHifi. This blend of control and refinement positions it as a reference‑grade stand‑mount.

HomeTheaterHifi

"The T+A Talis R 330 are superb loudspeakers. Their performance aligns perfectly with their price, offering a listening experience that is as refined as it is immersive."

Pros

  • Exceptionally strong, controlled low-frequency weight and punch for a stand‑mount, with usable extension for organ and trombone passages.
  • Airy, extended treble and high-resolution detail retrieval that reveal violin, flute, and cymbal textures without harshness.
  • Massive, well-damped aluminum cabinet and build quality provide an inert platform that reduces cabinet coloration and supports precise imaging.

&

Cons

  • Low sensitivity (85 dB) and a 4 Ω nominal impedance mean these speakers benefit from a powerful, capable amplifier.
  • Measured resonance in the 5–10 kHz region was observed (reportedly below audibility), which could concern very sensitive listeners or revealability with certain recordings.
  • Heavy and substantial (≈15 kg / 33 lb each), so stands, placement and room planning are practical considerations.

Sound Quality

91/100

Bass

92/100

For its size (170 mm / 6.7" woofer, bass-reflex) the R 330 delivers exceptional low-frequency weight and extension — spec lists 35 Hz and the review repeatedly notes 'deep, resonant' organ and trombone notes and 'piano’s lowest notes resonate with depth.' Ported design and repeated praise justify an above-excellent-for-size score.

Mid

91/100

Natural, detailed midrange with strong vocal presence: reviewer cites clear saxophone, emotive vocals and crystal-clear string plucks. The 6.7" woofer is described as providing a natural midband and no obvious coloration, supporting a high midscore.

Treble

92/100

1" magnesium-dome tweeter yields airy, extended highs; review mentions stunning purity on violin and sweet, expressive flute. A measured rise above 15 kHz is noted but reviewers emphasize crisp, non-harsh detail retrieval.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Speakers present an intimate, immersive soundstage with excellent detail separation — reviewer highlights shimmer of cymbals and instrument placement. Imaging is focused and revealing, creating a convincing sense of space for a stand-mount design.

Dynamics

90/100

Strong micro/macro dynamics are reported: 'detailed edge transients' and palpable shifts from velvety to commanding intensity. Low 85 dB sensitivity and 4-ohm load imply amplifier dependence, but reviewers still heard authoritative punch and control.

Build Quality

94/100

Massive, well-damped cabinet construction (15 kg / ~33 lb) with a thump-test described as a well-controlled 'thump' and likely internal damping. Finish options and solid engineering support a reference-level build impression.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive baseline applied.

Value for Money

80/100

High-end performance that reviewers describe as aligning with its price. At a listed price of 10,900 the speakers are clearly premium; praise as 'reference-grade' supports good value against high-end peers but not an outright bargain, so score is strong but not exceptional.
