Qln One (v7)
Introduction
The One marked the beginning of Qln’s truncated pyramid design, debuting in 1981 at CES as the first speaker of its kind in the world. The shape is an original Qln design combining aesthetic expression with functionality. The Qln One has been the little brother of the Signature since the Signature was introduced in 1989.
When we updated the Signature in 2022, preparations began for the 7th generation of the Qln One speaker. We are proud to introduce this new speaker as a testament to Qln’s commitment to advanced design and excellence in sound reproduction.
Qln One
We don’t draw attention to our technical acumen but rather a piece of furniture that can elegantly find its place in your living room. All the technical parameters for quality sound reproduction are present in our designs to recreate recorded music from your source. We must not forget that the purpose of a speaker is to recall an original sound event. Our goal is to provide the same emotion you feel when listening to a big orchestra, a string quartet, a rock band, a jazz trio, or vocalist performance. It is this pursuit along with music’s subtleties and nuances that we strive to capture.
The design goal for the new Qln One was not to make a small speaker sound impressive in large rooms but to make a mini monitor that works in a smaller room with the Qln quality standard.
So, if you are looking for the highest level of performance from a speaker in a small or difficult room, the Qln One is that speaker.
Cabinet design
speaker.A slanted front baffle provides perfect time alignment between woofer and tweeter. The truncated pyramid cabinet with its minimized baffle area suppresses any standing waves inside the cabinet while also offering improved three-dimensional imaging. By designing the cabinet construction with Qln’s unique Qboard® technology, structural resonances are significantly minimized. The bass reflex port with its trumpet shape eliminates air turbulence. The cabinet is heavily braced for stiffness and Qboard® to reduce internal resonances which distort sound in the time domain. Natural wool is used to further dampen the acoustic chamber internally. We use minimum damping material and apply it strategically.

Woofer The proprietary 5,5” mid-woofer is a custom designed sandwich paper cone offering state of the art 21st century driver technology.
The specially coated sandwich paper cone bass/midrange driver with under hung magnet system (where the voice coil is in the magnet gap all the time) forms a completely linear motor system. This allows for open air flow without any compression or turbulence resulting in micro details and the absence of acoustic noise commonly found in most basket designs. A built-in copper ring in the magnet system offers symmetrical drive, and lower voice coil inductance producing higher dynamics in the midrange while also suppressing intermodulation distortion. All these technical innovations result in astonishing micro/macro dynamics from a 2-way speaker design.
TweeterThe advanced 25mm wide surround tweeter offers remarkable vocal reproduction and excellent imaging at all listening positions. Its large roll surround and textile dome diaphragm provides a flat frequency response above 30 kHz with outstanding off-axis dispersion. The unique AirCirc magnet system and its rear chamber eliminate any reflections and resonances.
CrossoverThe crossover for the Qln One is comprised of very few components and arranged in a very special way. The core crossover has just two components with few adjustments.
This makes the Qln One play lively with a big sound from a small enclosure.
The crossover is hard wired with as few contact points as possible between components. Every component is soft glued to increase damping and minimize vibrations.
Cables, speaker connectors and internal damping. Internal cabling is our own special design produced in Sweden. Solid pure copper core wrapped around a polypropylene inner layer with polypropylene isolation, bounded with a high damping acoustic shield to minimize acoustic feedback. All components are carefully hand selected and individually tested for any deviances. Speaker terminals are WBT Nextgen® connectors made of the highest-grade silver-plated copper with minimal copper mass for low energy storage, lowering distortion and offering the purest contact to the speaker cable. For internal acoustic damping we use real wool. Wool is the best material for internal acoustic damping, but we use a small amount of synthetic fiber to get the right density.

Qln One (v7) delivers strikingly transparent midrange and razor-accurate imaging, pairing an airy, refined treble with surprisingly controlled bass for a compact ported monitor. Heavy, well-damped cabinets and refined motor/crossover design keep distortion low and dynamics tight, making these speakers sound coherent and alive in varied genres — praised in reviews by AUDIOKEY REVIEWS and The Sound Advocate.
Pros
- Exceptional midrange clarity and vocal realism, making instruments and voices sound natural and forward.
- Outstanding imaging and precise instrument localization that creates a stable, three-dimensional soundstage.
- Refined, extended treble with low distortion and strong transient detail for cymbals, piano and vocals.
- Surprisingly controlled, impactful bass for a 5.5" driver (spec -3dB @45Hz) thanks to a ported cabinet and tuned reflex mouth.
&
Cons
- Some earlier samples showed a slight upper‑treble lean/thinness on certain recordings (QLN has since smoothed this via a tweeter crossover tweak).
- Performance depends on careful amplifier choice and room/placement (distance from rear wall and suitable amplification recommended to reach full potential).
Sound Quality
92/100
Weighted average of sub-criteria below.
Bass
91/100
For a 5.5" mid-woofer in a ported cabinet the One (v7) delivers exceptionally deep and controlled bass for its size (spec -3dB @45Hz). Multiple reviews call the bass 'unyielding and generous' and note strong mid/low impact with good control if positioned away from the rear wall; ported design and trumpet-shaped reflex mouth are cited as helping low-end output.
Mid
93/100
Reviewers consistently praise the midrange as precise, silky and natural with excellent vocal presence and low coloration. Comments highlight a 'superlative tonal balance' and 'most precise response area' around mid-to-lower treble, supporting high marks for timbre and clarity.
Treble
91/100
Treble is extended, refined and detailed with reviewers noting sweetness and natural top end; a slight lean/cleaness was mentioned on some recordings but Qln's crossover tweak reportedly smooths that area. Overall treble is very well controlled and non-fatiguing.
Soundstage Imaging
93/100
Both reviews emphasize outstanding imaging and focus — 'one of the best image localization qualities' and 'snap into focus' — giving the speakers a very convincing, stable soundstage and instrument placement.
Dynamics
92/100
Speakers exhibit low compression, excellent transient response and punch for the form factor; reviewers noted strong handling of drums, percussion and dramatic dynamic swings, aided by magnet design and voice-coil choices.

Build Quality
92/100
Qboard multi-layer damping, heavy mass (~15 kg / 30 lbs each) and internal damping pads/reinforcement are repeatedly cited; finish options and solid engineering give the speakers a very solid, well-crafted feel and effective resonance control.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive baseline applied. Single-wire WBT terminal; no DSP/app/streaming — appropriate for a passive bookshelf.
Value for Money
92/100
Both reviews reference a price around $4,800 and explicitly call the One 'very high value' / 'high value' and praise its engineering and performance relative to cost. Reviewers present the speakers as strong contenders in their price band, supporting an explicit value recommendation.
