Naim ND 555
The ND 555 is a state-of-the-art streaming device that merges Naim's digital and analogue engineering expertise. It features a powerful 40-bit SHARC processor, a suspended brass sub-chassis, and Naim's best external power supply. The device is designed to deliver an unparalleled listening experience for music enthusiasts. We believe that when partnered with Statement or 500 series amplification, the ND 555 delivers an experience that is as close to live music as it gets.
A rich audio heritage
The Naim ND 555 is a premium network player that combines decades of audio engineering with cutting-edge technology. It features LVDS for high-speed and low noise, minimising timing errors and radiation.
Expert craftsmanship
The ND 555 uses advanced technology for a superior audio experience. Its streaming section employs Naim's latest network card, which decodes most HD audio formats up to 32 bits/384 kHz. The streaming board allows our DAC clock to control audio data flow and ensures a stable output. The data is oversampled for 40-bit accuracy and fed into the Burr-Brown® R2R ladder DAC, which delivers exceptional sound quality.
The ND 555 network player features Naim's DR regulator technology, providing ultra-pure DC voltage to its sensitive audio circuitry. The analogue stages use high-grade components and are mounted on suspended sub-chassis with brass plates to minimise microphony.
Pure musicality

Value for Money
92/100
The ND 555 delivers rhythmic precision, deep musical insight and a rich, full-bodied presentation that stays composed when arrangements become demanding. What Hi-Fi? admired its clarity, dynamics and precise imaging, while HiFi News highlighted its exceptional detail and immersive soundstage. With Roon, Chromecast and high-resolution playback onboard, this is a reference streamer built to make recordings feel vividly alive.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Exceptional rhythmic coherence, punchy dynamics and composure with complex music.
Reveals outstanding inner detail while maintaining rich, natural tone and persuasive imaging.
Extensive streaming and digital-source support, including Roon, Chromecast, Qobuz, Tidal, USB and S/PDIF inputs.
&
Cons
A very costly system, particularly because the required external 555PS DR power supply adds substantially to the investment.
Setup is unusually exacting and requires careful installation, orientation and run-in to reach full performance.
Its revealing nature can make harsh or poor recordings sound grating.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 96/100
Reviewers consistently describe an unusually complete and involving presentation, combining rhythmic drive, tonal richness, composure and exceptionally strong retrieval of recorded detail. It is praised for making complex music cohesive while retaining convincing image placement, dynamics and musical flow.
Tonal Balance Musicality
96/100
What Hi-Fi? found the ND 555 direct, punchy and organised, with a musical cohesion that few rivals can match; it also praised its natural tonality, expressive dynamics and full-bodied presentation. TONEAudio highlighted its exceptional pace, timing and sense of proper instrumental scale, while HiFi News described a rich, warm sound packed with musical information.
Resolution Detail
97/100
HiFi News heard substantially greater insight and detail than Naim's already accomplished NDS, saying recordings shimmer with subtleties and information. TONEAudio similarly found greater inner detail than a dCS comparison, while What Hi-Fi? praised the player's ability to separate and follow numerous instrumental strands without breaking the musical whole.
Digital Performance
95/100
The player is repeatedly praised for clarity, composure and freedom from strain under demanding material. What Hi-Fi? found it unfazed by complexity, with precisely layered imaging and stable placement, while HiFi News called its microdynamic ability superb and judged it capable of bettering most physical-media players.
FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 83/100
The ND 555 is comprehensively equipped as a high-end network source, with wide service compatibility, Roon endpoint operation and useful digital-input flexibility. The reviews focus much more on capability than on the day-to-day quality, reliability or responsiveness of the control app.
Streaming Software
78/100
The supplied reviews confirm Roon-ready operation and broad support for Chromecast-enabled applications and major streaming services. However, they provide little direct reporting on app design, setup, library handling, update experience or operational stability in everyday use.
Features Connectivity
95/100
Reviewers describe unusually broad source support, including Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, internet radio, Chromecast and Roon endpoint functionality. HiFi News also notes high-resolution PCM and DSD playback, USB storage playback, and optical, RCA and BNC digital inputs, making it highly adaptable within a reference-level system.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
92/100
TONEAudio calls the build quality superb and rates the execution and ergonomics among the product's strengths. What Hi-Fi? also describes the construction as fine, though the supplied reviews offer limited discussion of long-term mechanical durability or internal construction details.
Value for Money
92/100
At roughly £12,999 with its matching power supply in the HiFi News review, the ND 555 is plainly a major investment. Nevertheless, TONEAudio says its musicality and ease are worth every penny, and What Hi-Fi? calls it the best-sounding digital streaming source it has heard, strongly supporting its premium positioning against elite rivals.
