Clearaudio Tracer
Precise bearing technology
Extremely low-friction ball bearings, an angled tungsten axle, and high-quality sapphire bearings form the technical basis of the Tracer tonearm. The result is precise and controlled arm guidance.
Torsion-resistant carbon tube
The tonearm tube, made of particularly torsion-resistant carbon, combines high stability with optimal agility and supports controlled resonance behavior.
Precisely adjustable
The magnetic antiskating is integrated directly into the pivot axis and is particularly easy to access. Azimuth, headshell, and counterweight can also be precisely and comfortably adjusted.
The Tracer is available in Silver Carbon and Black Carbon versions.

Value for Money

The Clearaudio Tracer brings precision cartridge control to a sleek radial-arm design, pairing a rigid, lightweight carbon-fibre armtube with a low-friction tungsten-and-sapphire bearing. The Ear highlights its refined workmanship, while dial-adjustable anti-skate, azimuth adjustment and an underslung counterweight make exacting setup refreshingly approachable.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
High-precision, low-friction tungsten-and-sapphire jeweled bearing supports carefully engineered arm movement.
Carbon-fibre armtube combines low weight with rigidity, within an elegant minimalist build.
Practical setup controls include dial-adjustable anti-skate, rotatable headshell azimuth adjustment and straightforward tracking-force adjustment.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 50/100
The available coverage concentrates on the Tracer’s design and setup provisions rather than its audible character. It offers no listening impressions concerning tonal balance, resolution, spatial presentation, or groove-handling results.
Overall Sound
50/100
The review does not describe how the Tracer sounds with any cartridge or system. There is therefore no reported evidence on transparency, tonal neutrality, dynamics, or musical involvement.
Tracking Performance
50/100
The Ear notes a high-precision, low-friction jeweled bearing using tungsten and sapphire, intended to support stable arm movement. However, it provides no listening evidence on tracking difficult passages, resonance control, bass definition, or mistracking behavior.
FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 83/100
The Tracer provides practical adjustment of anti-skate, azimuth and tracking force, with an underslung counterweight intended to make setup straightforward. Its stated cartridge-weight range should suit many common moving-magnet and moving-coil designs, though the review does not document cartridge trials.
Adjustability
85/100
Anti-skate is adjusted via a simple dial, and the rotating aluminium headshell permits azimuth fine-tuning. The underslung counterweight lowers the centre of gravity and is described as allowing straightforward tracking-force adjustment.
Cartridge Compatibility
81/100
Clearaudio specifies a 3.5g to 17g cartridge balance range, covering a broad selection of conventional cartridge bodies. The available review does not identify specific cartridge matches or discuss compliance limits.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
83/100
The Ear describes an elegantly minimalist arm with substantial workmanship and well-considered details beneath its simple exterior. Its carbon-fibre arm tube is selected for rigidity and low mass, while the specified sapphire and tungsten bearing arrangement suggests careful engineering.
Value for Money
85/100
At £1,810 in the reviewed market, the Tracer sits between Clearaudio’s Magnify and Clarify models and below the flagship Universal arm. The review establishes its place in the range but does not offer a direct judgement on value against competing tonearms.
