Panzerholz as a Sound Body

Its design is reminiscent of the masterpieces of the V2.1 series. Thanks to its low resonance and minimal weight, the Panzerholz body frames the characteristics of the moving-coil construction perfectly.

Reminiscence of 40 years of clearaudio

The Jubilee MC was created as a reminiscence of 40 years of development and manufacturing in Erlangen. Each body is finished with a special painting and polishing technique.

Craftsmanship from Bubenreuth

The surface treatment follows the knowledge and skill of the elite violin makers from the neighboring town of Bubenreuth. Thus, the Jubilee MC also becomes a commitment to regional artisanal sound art.

Value for Money

85/100

The Clearaudio Jubilee MC marries a warm, lifelike midrange with precise imaging, extended treble and weighty yet controlled bass. HiFi News found its low-level resolution and tracking composure especially persuasive, while the resonance-conscious Panzerholz body helps this moving-coil cartridge deliver natural voices, vivid transients and modern clarity without sacrificing analogue richness.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"This cartridge performs an astounding juggling act, the three balls in the air being deep, tight, extended bass, contrasted with fast-enough highs – both of which are modern sonic preferences – but a warm, lifelike midband."

— HiFi News

Pros

Combines warm, highly natural vocal reproduction with crystal-clear extended treble and substantial, controlled bass.

Retrieves low-level detail with precise left-to-right image placement and well-separated vocal images.

Tracks demanding test records cleanly and clarifies dense low-frequency mixes without stripping away weight.

Cons

The long exposed boron cantilever and flower-shaped top plate can make alignment feel intimidating, despite otherwise straightforward setup.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 94/100

Ken Kessler found an unusually complete balance of vintage-style midrange warmth and modern precision at the frequency extremes. The Jubilee combines strong low-level resolution and stable spatial focus with substantial bass weight, clear extended treble and highly natural voices.

Overall Sound

94/100

Kessler describes the Jubilee as both “cutting-edge and vintage,” pairing a warm, lifelike midband with hyper-detailed, precise frequency extremes. Bass gained useful dryness and clarity without losing weight, while the treble was crystal-clear and extended; he also praised its natural vocal reproduction.

Tracking Retrieval

94/100

The review reports superb low-level-detail handling and says the cartridge sailed through torture-test records without infractions. Its rapid transient response and ability to clarify dense, murky low bass further support its resolving and tracing abilities.

Soundstage Imaging

93/100

Kessler specifically praises precise left-to-right image placement and describes Robert Plant’s voice as distinct from the surrounding mass of the mix, almost hovering above it. That evidence points to sharply focused images rather than merely a broad but diffuse presentation.

FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 84/100

Tonearm compatibility / system fit.

Tonearm Compatibility

84/100

Its 7.5g mass and 15µm/mN compliance indicate a plausible fit with many medium-mass tonearms, and the specified 2.8g tracking force is straightforward to set. However, this is a 0.5mV moving-coil design, so it still needs a suitably quiet MC phono stage with appropriate gain and loading rather than the simpler MM-input setup.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

85/100

The Panzerholz outer structure is reported to help control resonance, while the underlying metal/polymer body suggests a carefully considered construction. The review says little about long-term durability, assembly finish or the precision of the cartridge’s mechanical execution in daily use.

Value for Money

85/100

Kessler notes that the Jubilee cost £4,460, approximately one-third of the Goldfinger’s price at the time. He does not directly compare its value against competing cartridges or state whether its performance makes it especially compelling at that asking price.
