Compact Sub. Full Bodied Sound

More compact than other subwoofers in its class, Minx X301 packs a hefty 300W bass punch. Its active amplifier offers gain (volume), phase and crossover control for full integration into a complete Minx system.

Finished in a special gloss black or white lacquer, the X301 is the perfect match for home cinema systems. It’s small enough to hide in a corner, but attractive enough to leave on display.

300 Watts of Power

The most potent Minx subwoofer, X301 delivers 300 Watts of power which means it’s loud enough to add impressive bass to AV systems in medium to larger sized rooms. The 8” (200mm) powered driver adds full, rich and detailed lower frequency sounds – bringing drama to film soundtracks.

Innovative Drivers

Minx X301 has an 8” (200mm) Auxiliary Bass Radiator (ABR) in addition to its primary powered driver. This means the subwoofer doesn’t require an open box or enormous cabinet to give great bass. Instead, X301 produces a rich, warm bass from within its relatively modest proportions.

Bass Control

Minx X301 features a range of intuitive controls like volume, phase and crossover frequency, to enable you to place it anywhere in the room and fine-tune it with other Minx speakers in your system.

Intelligent Power

Our software engineers have designed a sophisticated Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to provide real-time control of equalisation and dynamic range. This allows Minx X301 to handle more power and play louder than our previous subwoofers – resulting in a tighter bass and less distortion at high volumes.

Turns on Like Magic

Minx 301’s auto-on mode automatically powers up the unit when it detects an incoming audio signal. This means you don’t have to fiddle around to switch it on, nor worry about turning it off when the film you’re watching has finished.

Choice of Finish

Understated design ensures that no matter your interior design taste, Minx X301 is always right at home. Finished in either high-gloss black or white, X301 is beautifully subtle and unobtrusive. Its tough exterior paint finish looks stunning and resists the inevitable challenges faced by tech traditionally placed on the floor.

Nicely Roasted

Controlled and surprisingly room-filling, the MINX X301 pairs tight, responsive low end with a transparent, evenly dispersed soundstage that works well in compact setups. Cambridge’s active crossover and passive radiator deliver deep, controlled bass and seamless integration with satellites, while the compact cabinet and wide dispersion make placement flexible. What Hi‑Fi? praised its clarity and power.

What Hi-Fi

"The volume that these tiny speakers can achieve is quite startling and we can happily crank the volume to uncomfortable levels without drivers distorting."

Pros

  • Controlled, transparent sound with wide, even dispersion well suited to small rooms.
  • Room-filling output from a compact cabinet—impressively powerful for its size.
  • Sub and satellites integrate seamlessly thanks to the active crossover and passive-radiator design.

&

Cons

  • The sub can struggle with very deep, sonorous material, sometimes producing rattle that requires level adjustment.
  • Dynamics aren’t as expressive or dramatic as equivalent full-size speakers.
  • Requires a well-matched amplifier to reach full potential, which adds to overall cost.

Sound Quality

87/100

Bass

88/100

Good extension and control for a compact design (31Hz -6dB). Handles rhythm and presence well but can rattle and lacks absolute grip on the very lowest notes.

Dynamics

86/100

Strong leading edge and impactful moments, with snappy timing and good transient punch, though not the most expressively dynamic compared with larger systems.

Integration

90/100

Reviewers state the "sub remains well integrated with the rest of the system" and praise its controlled, transparent blend; easy to achieve a seamless match.

Build Quality

88/100

Solid construction using acoustically damped thermo polymer and extruded aluminium with a high-gloss finish; compact, well-built cabinet.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Active variable crossover (50–200Hz), passive radiator and flexible positioning are useful; lacks advanced app/auto-EQ or wireless features.

Value for Money

75/100

Good performance for a compact sub at the listed price, but buyers must factor in the cost of a matching amp (~£600 noted), making it less of a bargain versus cheaper soundbar options.
