Features Usability

Value for Money

92/100

The CXC brings CDs to life with immediate attack, a low-noise presentation and nimble, articulate bass. Dagogo found this focused transport a striking upgrade over pricier competition, while its quiet drawer, solid finish and coaxial/optical outputs make it a compelling partner for a quality external DAC.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"The CXC succeeds here in spades."

— Dagogo

Pros

Delivers a notably clean, noise-free signal with lively immediacy and attack.

Outperformed the reviewer’s Line Magnetic CD215 transport and Oppo 205 for CD replay.

Well-made for the money, with a slick, quiet disc drawer and solid front-panel finish.

Cons

Bass is agile rather than especially weighty or large-scale compared with far more expensive transports.

The small display can be difficult to read at distance, and the supplied remote lacks direct track-number access.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 91/100

As a CD digital source, the CXC was widely praised for bringing greater immediacy, attack and musical freshness than the reviewer’s comparison transports. Its bass is described as agile rather than especially weighty, so it suits systems seeking clarity and drive more than maximum low-end scale.

Overall Sound

92/100

Dagogo found the CXC an immediate, substantial improvement over a Line Magnetic CD215 used as a transport, with lively attack that made music feel fresh and alive. The reviewer also preferred it to an Oppo 205 for CD replay, though noted that bass lacked the larger-scale weight of some transports using the Philips Pro 2LF mechanism.

Digital Signal Integrity

89/100

The reviewer reported no hiss, hum, or other audible noise from the CXC during use, an encouraging result for a budget-oriented transport. Its specified coaxial and optical S/PDIF outputs and low correlated-jitter figure support a clean digital-delivery focus, although the review provides limited direct comparison of clocking or output performance.

FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 82/100

This is a straightforward CD transport rather than a network player, with quiet disc handling, gapless playback, remote control, and the essential optical and coaxial digital outputs. It is sensibly equipped for feeding an external DAC, but offers limited connection variety beyond those core outputs.

Streaming Software

81/100

As a dedicated CD transport, the CXC has no streaming platform to assess. The review speaks positively of its slick, quiet drawer operation, while the supplied remote and gapless playback support uncomplicated day-to-day disc use.

Features Connectivity

83/100

The CXC provides both coaxial S/PDIF and TOSLINK optical digital outputs, allowing it to partner with a broad range of external DACs. These are practical essentials for a CD transport, though there are no balanced, USB, network, or clock connections.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

88/100

The CXC was described as a well-made, solid machine with a pleasing front panel and very good packaging. Its drawer is slick and quiet in operation, though the reviewer was clear that it does not feel as substantial as mechanisms fitted to far more expensive transports.

Value for Money

92/100

At roughly $499–$599, Dagogo called the CXC something of a rarity among under-$500 audio components and considered it fairly priced. That assessment is reinforced by the reviewer’s finding that it bettered considerably costlier comparison hardware when used for CD playback.
