The ATH-TWX9 pairs a neutral, fatigue-free tuning with an unusually black background, expansive imaging and smooth, sparkle-touched treble. Matthew Jens at StereoNET United Kingdom also found the fit exceptionally secure and comfortable, while adaptive ANC, onboard-saved EQ, multipoint and UV case sterilisation make these polished premium earbuds as practical as they are revealing.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Clean, neutral sound with a hiss-free background, controlled treble and detailed, accurate imaging.
Exceptionally comfortable and secure fit that stayed balanced during exercise and public transport.
Effective five-stage adaptive ANC, strong call quality, multipoint connectivity and EQ settings saved directly to the earbuds.
&
Cons
Bass is lean and clean rather than visceral; listeners seeking heavy slam may need EQ or prefer a bassier alternative.
ANC performs well but was not judged to match AirPods Pro 2 levels.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 88/100
The ATH-TWX9 is described as clean, refined and fundamentally neutral, with a small mid-bass lift and restrained top-end sparkle. Its presentation favors balance, clear vocals and spatial precision over heavy low-end impact.
Bass
85/100
Bass is described as lean, clean and accurate rather than heavily boosted. The reviewer wanted more outright slam, although the app EQ can add rumble without substantially upsetting the rest of the tuning.
Midrange
89/100
Vocals are brought forward enough to stay clear and engaging, but do not protrude unnaturally from the mix. The overall presentation is described as neutral and clean through the central band.
Treble
90/100
The upper range supplies a touch of sparkle while remaining controlled and refined. The review specifically reports no painful peaks, sibilance or ringing through the upper-midrange.
Resolution Separation
88/100
The review found an entirely hiss-free background and an impeccable signal-to-noise presentation. It describes the sound as clean and detailed, though it offers limited direct discussion of microdetail retrieval in especially dense arrangements.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
The reviewer calls the soundstage detailed and immaculate, including during a track's crescendo. Imaging is described as accurate and lag-free across the frequency range.
Dynamics Coherence
85/100
The TWX9 remains composed as music builds to a crescendo, and its neutral tuning is presented as cohesive and easy to follow. The review says little about ultimate punch, transient force or fine dynamic contrast, so listeners seeking a particularly hard-hitting sound may prefer a bassier tuning.
FIT COMFORT ISOLATION PERFORMANCE 92/100
The supplied review is especially positive about the secure, comfortable fit: the earbuds remain snug in transit without ear hooks. Their adaptive noise cancellation is also said to work well for everyday travel and outside use.
Seal Stability
91/100
The earbuds remained balanced and snugly in place during public-transport travel despite not using ear hooks. No seal loss, bass inconsistency or instability is reported.
Comfort
94/100
The reviewer calls these the most comfortable Audio-Technica in-ear monitors they have tried. That is particularly encouraging for longer listening, although fit will still vary with ear anatomy.
Isolation
90/100
The five-stage adaptive noise cancelling is reported to work well when out and about. The review does not provide detailed comparisons of passive attenuation or maximum ANC performance against direct rivals.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Accessories
86/100
The package includes three insertion-depth styles of ear tips in four sizes each, giving users unusually broad scope to refine fit and seal. IPX4 water resistance, USB-C and wireless case charging add practical everyday convenience, though the review says little about long-term shell, connector or case durability.
Value for Money
85/100
At £279.99 / roughly $280-299, the ATH-TWX9 sits in a premium true-wireless segment where polished sound, fit and effective ANC are expected. The review does not directly assess whether it outperforms competing models for the money.
