R-50PM

POWERED SPEAKERS WITH 5.25” WOOFERS

PLUG & PLAY, FUSS-FREE

As Powered Speakers, the R-50PMs don’t need to be connected to an AVR or another elaborate setup to sound great. Plug them into a power outlet, then each other, and add any additional lines you’d like (or simply stream via Bluetooth).

BIGGER HORN, WIDER SOUNDSTAGE

Experience legendary Klipsch Reference sound with larger edge-to-edge Tractrix horns mated to 1" aluminum LTS tweeters for a wider listening area and perfect clarity. Crank up the volume without compromising sound quality and tell your neighbors we’re not sorry!

HAPPINESS IS COPPER AND BLACK

The R-50PM’s copper-spun TCP woofers use steeply angled cones for improved rigidity and accuracy. Low-profile magnetic grilles give you flexibility to show off the classic Klipsch cones or switch things up with a sleek black exterior.

LINEAR TRAVEL SUSPENSION (LTS) ALUMINUM TWEETER

A hallmark of Klipsch speakers, the exclusive 1” LTS aluminum tweeter with Kapton Suspension minimizes distortion for more detailed performances. Aluminum is an extremely light and rigid material used in the tweeter assembly to provide high efficiency and clarity.

MORE BOX DEPTH FOR BIGGER BASS

The R-50PMs feature a small but mighty cabinet that can produce bass as deep as 55Hz thanks to bass-reflex rear-firing ports. Expertly engineered with extra cabinet depth, you’ll experience warmer, more impactful sound without connecting to a sub, but…

BASS LOVERS – WE SEE YOU

We’ve included an RCA line level output on the R-50PMs so you can add a subwoofer to your stereo system to enhance low frequencies even further if that's your thing.

R-101SW 10” SUBWOOFER

R-121SW 12” SUBWOOFER

RP-1000SW 10” HIGH EXCURSION SUBWOOFER

INPUTS FOR ALL THE THINGS

The R-50PMs connect via Bluetooth for music streaming, phono (with ground screw terminal) for turntables, plus digital and analog for everything in between. And because Klipsch engineers built in a customized amplifier, you get perfectly tuned sound experiences – no audio/video receiver (AVR) required.

NEED A LIFT?

We've designed speaker stands to pair perfectly with your new set of R-50PM Powered Speakers. The 28" speaker stands are designed to be the ideal listening height for the R-50PMs, so you can hear music and movies the way they were meant to sound.

MODERN REFERENCE DESIGN

The R-50PMs join our next-gen Reference Series so you can deck out your whole home in classic Klipsch.

Overall Score 86/100

Rating for [object Object]

Nicely Roasted

Fueled by a built-in amplifier and a ported woofer, the R‑50PM delivers notably punchy dynamics and an energetic, airy top end that gives recordings excitement. Its strengths include clear mid presence, stable imaging, and a wealth of modern inputs — from Bluetooth to optical, USB and phono. That combination of lively, detailed sound and extensive connectivity makes the R‑50PM a versatile bookshelf choice.

Pros

  • Very punchy, expressive dynamics with strong low-end impact for its driver size, giving music lively transient contrast.
  • Comprehensive connectivity: Bluetooth, optical/coaxial, USB, phono option and subwoofer output suit varied setups and sources.
  • Detailed, airy treble and stable imaging provide good resolution and staging that outperform many compact powered bookshelves.

&

Cons

  • Treble can read as bright or slightly forward on some recordings, which may fatigue listeners sensitive to top-end emphasis.
  • Mids can sit a touch behind the treble in the typical voicing, which may reduce forward vocal bloom on certain tracks.
  • Fit-and-finish is solid but uses mid-tier materials and veneers rather than premium finishes.

Sound Quality

85/100

Bass

87/100

5.25" woofer-sized performance: the R-50PM delivers punchy, well-defined low end that’s strong relative to its driver size. Ported/active design gives good extension and transient control for the bookshelf class, making it feel fuller than many 4" designs.

Mid

82/100

Mids are clear with good presence but can sit slightly behind the treble in typical Klipsch tuning. Vocals retain body and clarity, though the overall voicing favors a lively, slightly forward top end rather than strictly neutral midrange bloom.

Treble

86/100

Detailed, energetic treble with notable air and sparkle; very resolving but can be perceived as bright on some recordings. Overall refinement is high for the price class, though those sensitive to top-end emphasis may find it a touch forward.

Soundstage Imaging

84/100

Good width and a reasonable sense of depth for a compact speaker; imaging is stable and focused enough for precise placement. Toe-in and room placement affect width, but staging punches above the size class average.

Dynamics

88/100

Very punchy and expressive dynamics for a powered bookshelf, with strong micro- and macro-dynamic contrasts. The built-in amplification and efficient drivers allow lively, impactful playback without feeling compressed.

Build Quality

83/100

Solidly built with typical Klipsch fit-and-finish: well-assembled cabinet and grille, but materials and veneers align with mid-tier positioning rather than luxury craft. Crossover and driver implementation appear competent and durable.

Features Connectivity

90/100

Comprehensive active-speaker feature set (Bluetooth, optical/coaxial/analog/USB inputs, phono option and subwoofer out) gives exceptional connectivity and convenience for the category.

Value for Money

86/100

At the lower end of the stated price range (~$449) the R-50PM represents strong value given its connectivity and lively sound; even at higher prices it remains a compelling, feature-rich bookshelf contender versus peers.
