Klipsch R-40PM
R-40PM
POWERED MONITOR SPEAKERS WITH 4" WOOFERS
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
The R-40PM powered speakers connect via Bluetooth for music streaming, phono (with ground screw terminal) for turntables, plus digital and analog for everything in between. And because Klipsch engineers built in a customized amplifier, you get perfectly tuned sound experiences – no audio/video receiver (AVR) required.
BIGGER HORN, WIDER SOUNDSTAGE
Experience legendary Klipsch Reference sound with larger edge-to-edge Tractrix horns mated to 1” aluminum LTS tweeters for a wider listening area and perfect clarity. Crank up the volume without compromising sound quality and tell your neighbors we’re not sorry!
HAPPINESS IS COPPER AND BLACK
The R-40PM’s copper-spun TCP woofers use steeply angled cones for improved rigidity and accuracy. Low-profile magnetic grilles give you flexibility to show off the classic Klipsch cones or switch things up with a sleek black exterior.
LINEAR TRAVEL SUSPENSION (LTS) ALUMINUM TWEETER
A hallmark of Klipsch speakers, the exclusive 1" LTS aluminum tweeter with Kapton Suspension minimizes distortion for more detailed performances. Aluminum is an extremely light and rigid material used in the tweeter assembly to provide high efficiency.
ALL OF THE INPUTS, NONE OF THE FUSS
PLUG & PLAY SETUP
Basking in the glow of your favorite movies, games, and albums doesn’t have to be complicated. Plug your R-40PMs into a power outlet, then each other, and add any additional lines you’d like (or simply stream via Bluetooth).
SMALL BUT MIGHTY
The R-40PMs feature a small but mighty cabinet that can produce bass as deep as 60Hz thanks to bass-reflex rear-firing ports. Expertly engineered with extra cabinet depth, you’ll experience warmer, more impactful sound without connecting to a sub, but…
GOT BASS ON THE BRAIN?
We’ve included an RCA line level output on the R-40PMs so you can add a subwoofer to your stereo system to enhance low frequencies even further.

The Klipsch R-40PM brings open, detailed mids, punchy compact-speaker bass and generous source flexibility to an all-in-one stereo setup. Reviews of the closely related R-41PM from Hi-Fi Choice and The Audiophile Man highlight its expansive, musical presentation, convincing vocals and capable phono stage—an engaging formula for vinyl, desktop and digital listening.
Pros
Open, clear midrange gives vocals and instruments convincing presence and insight.
Bass is unexpectedly weighty and satisfyingly tight for such compact cabinets.
Extensive connectivity includes USB, optical, analogue, Bluetooth, subwoofer output and a built-in MM phono stage.
&
Cons
Treble and upper mids can become strident or hard at high listening levels.
Bluetooth stability was not consistently convincing, and USB integration with a Melco NAS proved troublesome.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 86/100
Bass
86/100
No reviews provided; score estimated from Klipsch R-series heritage and the R-40PM's positioning/price. Expect relatively deep, punchy bass for a powered R-series bookshelf with good low-frequency extension and control for typical small-to-medium room use, though a sub may still help for very bass-heavy music.
Mid
88/100
Estimate based on Klipsch's horn-influenced mid-forward voicing in the R line and the product's premium pricing. Anticipated clear, present vocals with good body and timbral weight while leaning slightly bright compared with very neutral monitors.
Treble
85/100
Estimated performance: detailed and energetic treble typical of Klipsch tweeter designs, with air and sparkle; kept slightly conservative to account for occasional reported brightness in the brand's voicing.
Soundstage Imaging
84/100
Projected soundstage: reasonably wide and involving for bookshelf speakers, with solid imaging and stage presence; not reference-level holography but good stereo focus for typical listening positions.
Dynamics
83/100
Estimated dynamic competence: lively macro- and micro-dynamics driven by the integrated amplification and efficient drivers; expected to deliver punch and transient snap appropriate to its class while not matching large floorstanders' headroom.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
86/100
Klipsch R-series generally shows solid cabinet construction and quality finishes at this price point; estimate of good driver/crossover implementation and fit-and-finish consistent with mid-range Klipsch products.
Features Connectivity
88/100
Estimated feature set based on 'PM' (powered/monitored) model lineage: likely includes Bluetooth, USB/optical/analog inputs and phono input or preamp, plus subwoofer out — giving strong connectivity for a powered bookshelf. Score reflects richer-than-passive feature set (assumed).
Value for Money
85/100
Price range provided (USD 389.99-549.99) suggests mid-tier powered bookshelf value. Score assumes competitive performance and connectivity for the price; solid but not class-leading without independent review praise or comparisons.
