Rich, coherent sound and serious all-in-one flexibility define the Gold Note IS-1000 MkII, which blends streaming, DAC, phono stage, and muscular Class AB drive into one polished package. Neil Gader praised its lush yet controlled presentation, while Joël Chevassus found the network performance remarkably stable and the amplifier impressively neutral, spacious, and powerful.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Delivers a spacious, coherent, and musically engaging presentation with strong bass control and natural tonal balance.
Exceptional one-box versatility: integrated amp, phono stage, DAC, streamer, and broad network support all work together smoothly.
Build quality and industrial design are repeatedly singled out as high-end, with a solid chassis and clear display/interface.
The phono stage earns strong praise for full-bodied, sweet-toned vinyl playback with a low-noise background.
&
Cons
The onboard phono stage is less adjustable than Gold Note’s standalone PH-10, so cartridge-matching flexibility is more limited.
Some reviewers found the presentation a little less explosive or clinically detailed than top reference separates, especially in ultimate transparency and rhythmic snap.
The remote and control experience drew occasional criticism for feeling less premium than the main unit.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
Reviewers consistently describe a highly capable, refined sound with strong digital performance and satisfying musical balance. They praise its full-bodied presentation, sweet tone, excellent detail retrieval, and a slightly warm overall balance that makes long listening easy, while one reviewer notes it is not as clinically detailed as a reference DAC.
Transparency Resolution
89/100
Reviewers call the DAC section an 'excellent window' into fine detail and say the sound is consistently excellent and glitch-free. One reviewer does note it is not as clinically detailed as a Prism Sound Callia, so the emphasis is on openness and useful resolution rather than ultimate forensic detail.
Tonal Balance Musicality
92/100
The amp is repeatedly described as full-bodied, sweet-toned, and pleasingly balanced. Reviewers say the slightly warmer tonal balance makes streaming and digital listening satisfying, and that even delicate piano passages sound convincing and natural.
Dynamics
89/100
Reviewer comments point to confident drive and good control, with the unit described as a high-quality 120-watt-per-channel integrated amplifier and praised for handling music with ease. There is also mention of the analog boost helping restore bass when speakers need it, suggesting good practical headroom and flexibility.
Soundstage Imaging
90/100
The IS-1000 is described as producing wider and more expansive presentation than a comparison DAC, and one review praises the system for suitable depth with a turntable. The imaging comments are consistently favorable, though not written in explicitly extravagant terms.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
91/100
Reviewers repeatedly call it beautifully built and a true high-end product in both build and sonic quality. The solid brushed-aluminium chassis and careful industrial design are singled out as giving the impression of a thoroughly serious component.
Features Connectivity
95/100
This is very heavily featured: phono stage, DAC, streamer, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, Roon Ready, Tidal Connect, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, multiple digital inputs, balanced XLR input, USB, and remote control all get positive mention. Reviewers also like practical extras such as the display, easy setup, and the adjustable damping factor and bass boost, making it a true all-in-one hub.
Value for Money
89/100
Reviewers repeatedly frame the price as reasonable for what you get, especially compared with buying separate amplifier, DAC, streamer, and phono stage components. While it is not cheap, the consensus is that the package is easy to recommend because it combines convenience and strong sound in a way that competes well with separates at a similar or higher total cost.
