PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The VAF DC-Cinema LCR is part of the very latest generation of our famous DC series of speakers. Award winning designs that reach back to the early 1990's, the VAF DC Series has and continues to be class leading value and performance.
The DC-Cinema LCR has been designed to be the perfect matching front speakers in a home cinema application - as the name suggests, Cinema LCR for Left, Centre and Right speaker channels. Each identical speaker can be mounted either on the wall vertically or horizontal depending on the ideal placement requirement to match your screen. An optional flush mounting kit is available making it possible to place the DC-Cinema into a standard plaster board stud wall. Providing a more discrete look with much higher performance than most standard 'in wall' products.
Powerful and compact the Cinema LCR incorporates our new 130mm natural fibre cone bass/midrange with a unique vented alloy chassis. The cone is supported on a linear suspension and soft low damping rubber surround and a non conducting fibre voice coil former. This driver has incredibly low noise and distortion.
We've combined this with another unique driver for the higher frequencies. These are handled by a dual concentric diaphragm tweeter with a specialised central phase plug to control and give excellent on and off axis performance. This gives the DC Cinema LCR even more natural and accurate reproduction over a wider area in your room.
Power handling as with all VAF speakers is excellent, maintaining very low distortion levels even at higher volumes. Important when you want to reproduce the full dynamic potential of your music or movie soundtrack.
The DC-Cinema is suitable to use in all channels for a powerful multi channel system, however for more space flexibility it matches perfectly with the DC-Cinema Slim.

Compact LCR with big-stage ambition
The VAF DC-Cinema On-Wall/In-Wall LCRs punch above their size, delivering clear midrange and wide, precise staging from a slim, install-friendly cabinet. Built as a sealed three-driver LCR, the speakers offer a relaxed tonal balance with restrained high frequencies and very articulate mids — ideal for dialogue-centric home theatre use. As Michael Darroch observed, these speakers favour listenability and integration over brute force.
Sonically, the DC-Cinema LCRs trade deep bass extension for timing and control: the sealed enclosure and dual 130mm mid/bass drivers give pinpoint drum timing and detailed orchestral layers, while the top end is detailed but slightly rolled off. Imaging is a standout; small-room placement yields a convincingly large recorded acoustic and superb positioning for effects and vocals. Construction is reassuringly solid at 5.15kg each, with a recessed 25mm dual-concentric tweeter and star-shaped felt surround to reduce diffraction and smooth response. The slim depth and optional flush grill make these easy to hide behind screens or blend into décor.
Best for small-to-medium media rooms or living-room systems paired with a subwoofer and a capable amplifier, the DC-Cinema LCRs represent a cost-conscious way to prioritise clarity and staging in an installed home-theatre setup.
Pros
- Exceptional imaging and soundstaging for the form factor, producing a larger-than-expected recorded acoustic.
- Clear, well-defined midrange and dialogue reproduction that makes speech intelligible even during dense soundtracks.
- Solid, installation-friendly build with thoughtful diffraction control (recessed tweeter and felt surround) and compact dimensions for in-wall/on-wall use.
&
Cons
- Limited low-frequency extension from the sealed small cabinet — best used with a subwoofer for full-range home-theatre performance.
- Modest dynamics and 88dB sensitivity into 4 ohms mean the speakers need a reasonably powerful amplifier to reach headroom in larger rooms.
Sound Quality
84/100
Bass
79/100
Sealed small-cabinet design with twin 130mm drivers yields limited low-end extension; reviewer notes a 'limited low-end response' and that the bass is 'shorted' compared to a larger sibling. For the 5.0–5.25" driver class this is competent but not exceptional.
Mid
88/100
Reviewers report clear, well-defined vocals and dialogue ('defined every line of dialogue with clarity'), and a softer, enjoyable tonal balance that favors natural midrange presence and listenability.
Treble
84/100
Described as detailed but restrained: 'mid/high roll-off helped... presenting a detailed but restrained rendition.' There is some HF roll-off at the top end, giving refinement without harshness but slightly reduced air/extension.
Soundstage Imaging
90/100
Strong imaging for the form factor: 'sound wrapped around my listening space convincingly' and 'great soundstaging and presence' — yields a larger-than-expected recorded acoustic from a compact on-wall/in-wall unit.
Dynamics
76/100
Mixed dynamic performance: reviewer states 'the dynamics didn’t quite deliver' though sealed enclosure provides good timing ('pinpoint timing on the drums'). Respectable control but limited macro punch and headroom.

Build Quality
88/100
Solidly built and reassuringly heavy at 5.15kg each; felt grille and construction reduce diffraction and produce a smoother driver response. Overall craftsmanship described as properly made for on-wall use.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive baseline applied.
Value for Money
86/100
At the listed price (~1249), the reviewer calls it 'cost-effective, versatile' and a tantalising entry to the brand's hi‑fi credentials — good value if you prioritise clarity and staging over deep bass and extreme dynamics.
