The preamplifier was designed to listen at the reference level, so it is infallibly accurate and true to the input. Its purpose is to give it its music as intended by its artists and producers: nothing more and nothing less. The critical elements of a phonographic stage are: accurate RIAA equalization, low noise, low distortion and overload range.

The RIAA correction we have used is based on very low tolerance components. The resistances are metallic film and 0.1% tolerance. We have used Russian PIO capacitors NOS (paper in oil), famous for their accuracy and consistency. The preamplifier section is responsible for a set of J-FET transistors that have been manually paired with a setting of 1%. The system accuracy is ±0.25 dB, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, extending to 45 kHz. This results in absolutely clear high frequencies without intermodulation or other anomalies that can distract us from our listening.

The signal-to-noise ratio in both MM (better than 82 dB) and MC (better than 72 dB) is outstanding and virtually inaudible in any volume setting. The distortion is extremely low, typically less than 0.01% in the entire audio band. The total gain is 70 dB.
