Downsizing

is a good thing if you do it "right". For us, this means taking the necessary steps to cut costs without making compromises or sacrificing sound quality. As our large VERO is simply too lavishly equipped and oversized for many customers, we were asked to develop a slimmed-down version - and we listened!

The circuitry

was largely taken over from the bigger VERO. However, we then had to cut back on the power conditioning, because the shunt regulation was not feasible in terms of components or cooling - but we found a way to stay very close to the performance of the original circuit... The dedicated MM circuitry could also no longer be implemented in this form, so this was also omitted. The only disadvantage? 2 dB worse signal-to-noise ratio. Easy to get over with the already excellent values and absolutely inaudible...

The sound

is, as is well known from the bigger VERO; superior, deep and offering a large sound stage. The VERO S delivers a precise reproduction of the sound with a clear focus on individual players without drifting into the analytical. Tonality? Outstanding! The optionally switchable subsonic filter ensures control of the low bass end and effectively prevents uncontrolled movements of the bass driver and possible feedback that might occur. There is also an optional additional amplifier stage that raises the output voltage to the usual level for CD players.

Tweaks?

As we had already discovered with our turntables, the power supply has a significant influence on the sound performance of a deck. This applies to amplifiers to an even greater extent. This is why we have left no stone unturned in adapting our LINEAR power supply to the needs of the VERO S. You will be amazed at how big the increase in sound improvement is...

Dr. Feickert Analogue VERO S — compact, timing-true phono stage

The Dr. Feickert Analogue VERO S is a compact, German-made phono stage that pairs surgical transient control with an impressively quiet presentation. Reviewers such as Frank Lechtenberg and Marc Rushton praise its precise timing and transparency, noting fast, grippy bass, an open midrange and silky, well-behaved treble. Its strengths include tight dynamics and detailed imaging, plus a switchable subsonic filter and optional linear power supply that improve timing and low-frequency control. Internals are neatly executed and jumpers let you tailor gain (38–66 dB) and terminating impedance across many settings, making it unusually adaptable to MC or MM cartridges. Ideal for single-turntable systems and detail-focused listeners, the VERO S offers high-end sonic performance and practical tuning options in a small, elegantly finished package.

StereoNET United Kingdom

"super-quiet, dynamic, effortlessly detailed, focused, and razor-sharp without being bright or edgy."

Pros

  • Exceptional timing and dynamic control—crisp, well-defined transients that preserve attack and decay for greater musical detail.
  • Very low noise and high transparency—clean background even at high gain settings, enabling subtle detail and quiet piano passages to emerge.
  • Wide cartridge compatibility—comprehensive gain options and extensive MC/MM loading and capacitance adjustments via internal jumpers for precise matching.

&

Cons

  • Limited I/O and feature set compared with the larger Vero—single input and single output design may frustrate multi-turntable setups.
  • Adjustments require opening the chassis (jumper changes) and there is no remote control for cartridge-matching tweaks—less convenient for frequent reconfiguration.

Transparency

93/100

Both reviews praise an extremely low noise floor: Fidelity's review says it is "as quiet as a mouse" and that it "outperforms my already low-noise Luxman E-250," while StereoNET calls it "super-quiet" and "in a different class" for noise and detail. RIAA equalization is accurate (20 Hz-20 kHz ±0.2 dB) and reviewers noted no audible hum or hiss even with high gain, supporting a very high transparency rating for both MM and MC use.

Sound Quality

92/100

Both reviewers emphasize timing, transient definition and punch: Fidelity highlights "precise timing" and clearly defined transients, and StereoNET cites "excellent pace and timing" and that higher gain options increase impact. The unit preserves micro- and macro-dynamics well, yielding lively, engaging playback.

Cartridge Compatibility

95/100

Very strong flexibility: gain from 38–66 dB (plus XGain +12 dB), 28 MC loading settings plus fine adjustments and multiple MM capacitance options (100/320/570/790 pF). Reviewers note easy-to-understand jumper tables and precise matching to MC systems (Fidelity matched 62 dB/370 Ω), making it exceptionally adaptable to both MM and MC cartridges.

Build Quality

90/100

Build is described as clean and precise internally (Fidelity: "work here is clean and precise") and externally as classy with solid front panel and dual-mono construction and separate power transformers noted by StereoNET. Construction and shielding appear robust, supporting low-noise performance.

Value for Money

90/100

Reviewers view the Vero S as a strong value in its price band (~€1,321–€1,490 reported): Fidelity notes it outperforms a similarly priced Luxman, and StereoNET calls it an outstanding, versatile product for those with multiple turntables. The consensus is that the performance and feature set justify the asking price.
