SA1 MK2 is a powerful amplifier that punches way above its size. Get ready to be amazed by an unprecedented performance no matter which speakers you connect it to.

The insides are made of high-quality components and the outside is cut in a beautiful modern Scandinavian design. Stream your favorite beats with high-end Bluetooth aptX HD or plug it into your TV with HDMI ARC for a hassle-free audio upgrade!

This model is also available with Wi-Fi streaming. Check out the SA2.

Packing power

Don't judge the SA1 MK2 by its small size! This amp is packing super powerful hybrid-digital amps with 100 ridiculously effective watts in each channel (4 ohm).

To put it simply: this amp is ready for most speakers you could think of pairing it with. Our own passive FORUS-series speakers would be a great choice, but your flea market finds will do just as well.

The right connections

If you are familiar with Bluetooth, then you know how to use the SA1 MK2. Just pair your phone, tablet, or any other Bluetooth-enabled device, and you’re good to go. You’ve also got a pre-out output in case you want to use SA1 MK2 as a fully digital pre-amp. That one is for the enthusiasts. Us simple mortals can also use it to add a subwoofer.

Thinking of upgrading your TV audio? Great idea! By using the HDMI connection to connect your TV, the SA1 MK2 will automatically power on with it, allowing the volume to be controlled using your TV remote. It does everything your plastic soundbar does—except, you know, better. There’s no excuse to settle for the subpar audio of soundbars anymore, 'cause the SA1 MK2 is here to save you! It has truly never been easier to achieve quality stereo sound.

A non-scary amp

Let’s be real for a second here. Amps can be quite daunting. Most often they’re huge metal boxes with some confusing interface that’s impossible to decipher. Turn ‘em around and you stare into a thousand ports, each with their own weird abbreviation slapped on top. SA1 MK2 is different. SA1 MK2 understands.

This small box packs only the stuff you actually need – nothing more, nothing less. Connect your speakers, power it on, pair with Bluetooth, and you’re good to go.

Argon Audio SA1 MK2 — compact, well-featured integrated amp

The SA1 MK2 punches well above its size, marrying a 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC and Class D power to deliver a warm, musical presentation. Reviewer Michael Bruss for 6 Moons praised its potent, deep bass, creamy midrange and clean, slightly mellow treble that resists fatigue. Dynamics are lively and stable across SPLs, while imaging produces an impressively broad, layered soundstage for the class. The SA1 is solidly built with a metal-bottomed chassis, remote control and wide connectivity — HDMI ARC, optical, MM phono and Bluetooth aptX HD/AAC — making it an ideal compact hi‑fi hub for bookshelf systems or TV setups. At about €369 it’s a standout value for listeners seeking turnkey performance without high-end complexity.

6 Moons

"Enter Thor's hammer for today, the price/performance surprise of Argon's Forte A5."

Pros

  • Deep, potent bass with DSP-assisted extension down toward ~40Hz, delivering impactful low end for the class.
  • Creamy, natural midrange and non‑fatiguing treble that preserves vocal timbre and long listening sessions.
  • Very complete feature set — HDMI ARC, optical, MM phono, Bluetooth aptX HD/AAC and a 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC — uncommon at this price point.

&

Cons

  • Upper treble lacks ultimate resolution and is a touch mellow compared with higher-end amplifiers.
  • May not control extremely demanding or highly revealing speakers at very high SPLs; bass is potent but not as tightly controlled as pricier rivals.
  • No advanced network streaming features — limited "networking chops" relative to some competitors.

Sound Quality

89/100

Dynamics

89/100

As a Class D design with ~50W–100W ratings, the SA1 is noted for quick, punchy upper-bass/lower-mid attacks and stable performance across SPLs. The reviewer notes it lacks the absolute attack speed of elite high-end amps but delivers impressive control and headroom for its class and price.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Reviews highlight a broad and deep soundstage with convincing depth and instrument spacing that extends beyond the cabinets. Imaging is focused and stable, producing a convincing sense of space for the segment.

Build Quality

89/100

Finished samples are described as flawlessly finished and solid, with a metal bottom and well-executed casework; smart industrial design and good fit-and-finish are noted. Construction is very good for the price, albeit using economical materials rather than luxury-grade internals.

Features Connectivity

95/100

Very well featured for the price: HDMI ARC, dual Toslink optical, analog RCA, MM phono, Bluetooth aptX HD/AAC, and a 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC. Additional conveniences include pre-out (RCA), remote control and auto input switching; the DAC quality plus HDMI and aptX HD push this into the top feature tier.

Value for Money

93/100

At the ~€369 price point the reviewer calls it a price/performance surprise and a 'price/performance disruptor', praising its performance relative to cost. Multiple positive value statements support a strong value rating in its competitive segment.
