The AE105 is the latest addition to the all-new 100 Series. A versatile, 2-way loudspeaker primarily designed for wall mounting, the AE105 is equally suited to a bookcase or shelf position.

The AE105 utilises a soft dome tweeter with WDT wave guide along with two 130mm paper cone drivers, one acting as a passive radiator for improved bass performance. Optimised for vertical wall mounting with the listening position at or below the tweeter axis, the AE105 can be used to simply enhance the stereo sound from your TV, or as Front L/R, Centre and Surround channel speakers within multi-channel home cinema systems… whilst partnered with the matching AE108² compact sub-woofer.

Finished in a choice of black, white or walnut vinyl veneers, they are supplied with rear mounting plates, template, wall spacers, black and light grey grilles for easy integration within any room décor.

Value for Money

84/100

Packed into a slim cabinet, the AE105 delivers a punchy low end thanks to a 130mm driver and dedicated passive radiator, making it a standout for compact setups. Its 25mm fabric dome and 3kHz crossover produce smooth, detailed treble and natural mids, while supplied mounting hardware and magnetic grilles boost its on-wall versatility, as noted by The Ear and Ian White.

Pros

Unexpectedly strong, well-controlled bass for a compact on-wall speaker thanks to the 130mm driver paired with a passive radiator.

Designed for easy wall or shelf use — supplied rear mounting plate, template, wall spacers and slim magnetic grilles make installation and integration straightforward.

Refined treble and solid midrange presence from the 25mm fabric dome and conventional 3kHz crossover, supporting clear vocals and detail without harshness.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 86/100

Bass

88/100

130mm paper cone with a dedicated passive radiator and a rated low end of 55Hz indicate unusually strong bass for a small 5.1" driver bookshelf. The passive radiator + compact tower-like cabinet suggests good extension and controlled output; expect tight, room-filling bass for its driver class. No reviewer data provided, but specs and PR justify a high small-class score (+1 PR modifier applied).

Mid

86/100

Paper cone mid/bass driver and a 3kHz crossover point to a full-bodied, natural midrange with likely good vocal presence. The relatively heavy cabinet (4.7kg each) and two-way design support stable mid performance with low coloration. Sensitivity (91dB) and decent power handling (120W) should keep mids clear at reasonable levels.

Treble

85/100

25mm fabric dome tweeter and a stated top end of 26kHz indicate smooth, extended treble without aggressive peakiness. The fabric dome typically yields a refined upper register and low risk of sibilance, supporting detail without harshness. Crossover at 3kHz is conventional and should integrate cleanly with the mid/bass driver.

Soundstage Imaging

84/100

Tall cabinet (450mm) and a focused two-way layout favor a reasonably wide and stable stage with good imaging for a bookshelf. The combination of a single cone driver and a discrete dome tweeter should yield stable center imaging and believable depth. Without listening notes, score is conservative but positive based on form factor and driver choices.

Dynamics

86/100

91dB sensitivity and 120W power handling imply lively dynamic capability and good headroom for most amplifiers. The passive-radiator design supports punch and controlled transient behavior down low. Expect good micro- and macro-dynamic response relative to peers in this size class.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

86/100

At 4.7kg per speaker with vinyl veneer finishes and magnetic slim grilles, the AE105 appears well-constructed for its price tier. The presence of a passive radiator and conventional two-way crossover point to competent internal engineering and cabinet bracing. Finish options (black, white, walnut) and neat grille fitment support a premium feel.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive bookshelf baseline applied: single-post passive wiring assumed. No DSP, streaming or extra connectivity expected; baseline fixed at 80 as per passive rules.

Value for Money

84/100

Price was not provided (N/A). Based on the AE brand positioning, 130mm driver with passive radiator, 91dB sensitivity and 120W handling, the AE105 look competitive versus similarly specced peers; absence of an exact price prevents a top-tier value score but the spec set and finishes suggest solid value.
