You have never had such a compact and capable loudspeaker in your system design toolbox before.

The Theory sb25aw is an all-weather, 4-ohm or 70V/100V, version of the remarkable sb25 indoor surface mount loudspeaker.

Like the sb25, the sb25aw is a wide-bandwidth, high-output multi-use loudspeaker, perfect for restaurants, bars, hotels, retail stores, houses of worship and anywhere high-resolution, high-fidelity background or foreground sound is needed. The sb25aw incorporates a durable perforated stainless steel grille, water-tight loudspeaker wire entry point, selectable hi-z or low-z operating modes, and has an optional yoke mounting bracket available.

Capable of astonishing range and output, the 3.8” deep sb25 is literally a jack of all trades and will have you rethinking how you incorporate sound in your next high-value project.

SMOOTH. ACCURATE. EXTENDED.

The CEA2034 or “Spinorama” data encapsulates the performance of a loudspeaker in a typical room. The sb25aw “Listening Window” response is ruler-flat, exactly the response that delivers accurate timbre, unmatched detail and coherence to the listener’s ears.

ACCURATE ALL THE WAY TO NINETY.

The sb25aw horizontal off-axis response is predictable and smooth all the way to 90 degrees.

EVEN THE REFLECTIONS SOUND GOOD.

Horizontal reflections are the room reflections you hear the “most”. Ceiling and floor reflections typically factor into perceived sound quality to a much lesser degree. You can see the Total Horizontal Reflections (green) is extended and smooth indicating that the reflected sound from an sb25aw loudspeaker is neutral in timbre and wide in bandwidth.

OVERLAPPING CIRCLES.

The sb25aw offers wide dispersion all the way to the very top audio octave. Everyone hears wide-band, detailed sound.

GAIN CONTROL.

The “Directivity Contour Plot” shows the speaker’s dispersion characteristics using color to represent output magnitude. A quick inspection of the sb25aw’s contour plot reveals its very wide, but very uniform dispersion.

LISTEN WITH YOUR EYES.

Here is the data shown in the Directivity Contour Plot shown again on a polar map, making it easier to “see” how the sound is dispersed from the loudspeaker itself. The 0° axis represents the axis perpendicular to the speaker baffle.. The sb25aw coverage is very wide and uniform, all the way to the top audio octave: >140° at -6dB! Everyone in a broad area receives full-range sound with delicate, extended treble response.

VERTICAL WIDENESS

The sb25aw’s vertical directivity is wide and predictable - especially for a two-way speaker with multiple LF drive units - making it easy to get uniform, broad-band coverage in every listening location.

BE LET IN ON THE YOKE.

The optional custom yoke bracket (also sometimes called a “C” bracket) not only allows rotational aiming of the speaker, but also features a 1/2” rigid conduit adapter hole so that the sb25aw can be pole mounted from ceilings affording another degree of freedom to aiming the sound to where you need it.

PIVOT. POLE. PAN. TILT. ADAPT.

The sb25aw ships with z-clips for flat-to-wall mounting.

The sb25 Universal Mount Adapter optional accessory facilitates the mounting of the sb25 in any scenario: pole from ceiling, pole from ground, onto any 75mm or 100mm VESA mount, and a number of pan-and-tilt and ball mounts for wall and ceiling mounting from Adaptive Technologies and Omnimount.

TAKE A STAND.

The sb-STAND stand accessory for Theory sb model soundbars and surface mount speakers allows the sb25aw to stand up on a flat surfaces such as speaker stands, mixing desks, consoles, tabletops and bookshelves. (Model sb25 shown).

YOU’RE INVITED TO THE (3rd) PARTY.

The sb25aw ships with included z-clip flat surface mount brackets but also has integral mount hole patterns for several high-quality third-party speaker mounts. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself using this highly capable little speaker everywhere.

Overall Score 86/100

Rating for [object Object]

Nicely Roasted

Built for demanding installs, the sb25aw delivers commanding headroom and punchy low end while resisting the elements. With high output, weatherproof construction, and selectable 4Ω/70V–100V operation, it pairs DSP control with precise voicing for venue deployments. Installation hardware and broad conical coverage make it versatile, per Jacob Green of Audioholics.

Pros

  • Exceptional headroom and dynamics for its size, supported by high power-handling and strong sensitivity.
  • Robust, weather-resistant aluminum construction with waterproof terminal cover and included Z-clip mounting for durable outdoor use.
  • Flexible installation options — selectable 4Ω or 70V/100V operation, Euroblock connector with parallel output, and multiple mount compatibilities.

Sound Quality

87/100

Bass

88/100

Two 5" carbon-fiber low-frequency drivers with -10dB down to 46Hz (spec) give unusually deep bass for dual 5" drivers in a weatherproof surface-mount enclosure. High power handling and required DSP processing imply the unit can be EQ'd for usable low-end in installations; for its driver size and form factor this is in the excellent-for-size band.

Mid

86/100

Midrange should be clear and present thanks to dedicated LF drivers and a compression HF driver crossing over to handle highs; DSP requirement suggests the maker expects controlled mids via processing. The aluminum enclosure and outdoor focus may impart slight coloration compared with refined indoor hi‑fi monitors, but overall timbral clarity is strong for installed use.

Treble

87/100

1.4" polymer compression driver and spec'd extension to ~23–24kHz indicate good high‑frequency extension and forward presence. High HF sensitivity (108dB) supports detail and air; DSP tuning can tame any brightness for installed applications.

Soundstage Imaging

82/100

Designed for wide coverage (125–160° conical) and installation use rather than intimate imaging; expect broad, stable coverage ideal for outdoor/venue deployments. Not a critical-stage hi‑fi speaker for pinpoint imaging, but placement flexibility and conical pattern give consistent coverage and solid perceived width.

Dynamics

91/100

Very high power handling (200W AES, 400W continuous, 800W peak) and strong sensitivity enable exceptional macro dynamics and headroom for its size. Designed as a high-output installation speaker, it will retain control at high SPLs when driven appropriately.

Build Quality

92/100

Extruded and machined anodized/powder-coated aluminum enclosure, perforated aluminum grille, waterproof terminal cover and included Z-clips point to robust, premium weatherproof construction. Weight (24.5 lb) and metalwork suggest excellent mechanical rigidity and longevity for outdoor use.

Features Connectivity

81/100

Passive baseline applied (80) with +1 for engineered mounting hardware and waterproof terminal cover. Euroblock connector with parallel output and selectable 4Ω/70V/100V operation (transformer taps) increase installation flexibility; DSP processing is required per manufacturer but lack of active features is appropriate for a passive installation speaker.

Value for Money

78/100

At $1,775 this is a premium, application-specific loudspeaker: high build quality and extremely high power/headroom justify pricing for professional installs. For consumer bookshelf use the price is high, but for spec-grade outdoor/venue deployments the feature set and durability support a solid value proposition.
