There are a variety of other Belden products which form the basis for excellent power and audio cables. Some of these -- the RCA and XLR -- are variants of the Iconoclast designs, rendered in more flexible and lower-cost materials. Others -- the power, S/PDIF and speaker cables below -- are more conventional designs but executed with high-quality materials and construction.
The BAV Power Cable comes in 10, 12 or 14 AWG sizes, and with or without optional braided nylon Techflex covering. These cable stocks, Belden 19105, 19106 and 19107, all use EPDM dielectric, a material which has what, for many other purposes, would be considered poor dielectric properties; the effect is to provide some attenuation of any RFI which may be entering via the power cord. To read more, see: BAV Power cord memo
The BAV XLR cable is based on the same design principles and architecture as the Iconoclast Series-1 XLR cable, but with a PVC jacket and polyolefin spline, resulting in a cable which is more economical to produce and dramatically more flexible than the Iconoclast with its heavy use of PTFE. BAV XLR cable is ideal for applications where cable will be repeatedly handled and coiled. For technical details on the "why and how" behind the design, see the paper: BAV XLR memo
The BAV RCA cable shares its design configuration with the Iconoclast Series-1 RCA, but uses PVC and polyolefin in place of the PTFE jacket and dielectric of the Iconoclast, resulting in a significantly more flexible cable.
Our S/PDIF (75 ohm digital audio) cable is the plenum, Teflon-dielectric version of Belden's 12G SDI cable: 4694P. For the best impedance consistency through the connectors, we use Canare's three-piece crimp plugs; BNCs are available as well as RCAs, if needed. The finished cable is sheathed in Techflex.
Our BAV speaker cables are made using either Belden 1313A (10 AWG conventional paired cable) or 1310A (14 AWG star quad, usable either in bi-wired or standard configuration). The standard connectors are our locking banana plugs or the gold-plated version of the Iconoclast spades, in 6.3mm, 7.0mm, or 9.2mm sizes; all of these connectors are welded to the cable using our signature ultrasonic welding process. The finished cable is sheathed in black Techflex. If you need help measuring your binding posts for spades before ordering, drop us a note and we will send you our binding post measurement card free of charge.
