The FX-DA06 delivers a richly neutral listen, pairing deep, articulate bass with an especially clear midrange, airy treble and impressive detail. Tharbamar found its spacious, precise presentation highly competitive at the price, while six digital filters let listeners fine-tune its character. Balanced XLR operation further unlocks this compact DAC’s clean resolution and musical density.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Deep, articulate bass, accurate musical mids, and extended, airy highs create a rich-leaning neutral balance.
Strong resolution and spaciousness reproduce percussion, cymbals, and guitar details with precision.
Changes between PCM, DSD, and sample rates occur without pops or switching noise; SPDIF performance was trouble-free.
Six digital filters provide useful sound tailoring, and XLR output was recommended for best performance.
&
Cons
Upper frequencies can become bright or edgy at higher listening levels, particularly with revealing speakers.
USB input introduced slight per-track latency, unlike the reviewer’s trouble-free SPDIF experience.
The remote’s EQ button serves as the menu control, which the reviewer found confusing.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 86/100
The DA06 is described as balanced and neutral with a slightly richer, denser presentation, deep articulated bass, and well-extended treble air. It offers notably good definition and resolution for its price, though the reviewer also reports input-dependent reliability concerns.
Tonal Balance and Musicality
87/100
The reviewer hears an accurate, neutral midrange with a musical character, alongside a rich-leaning neutral balance and a dense sonic foundation. Bass is praised as deep, articulate, and well-developed, while the high frequencies are said to extend cleanly with a welcome sense of air.
Resolution and Detail
87/100
Resolution is described as very good for the price, with jazz percussion, cymbals, guitar notes, and other fine musical details reproduced precisely. The DA06 is also said to offer a little more spaciousness and resolution than similarly priced DACs.
Digital Performance
84/100
Format changes between DSD and PCM, and between sample rates, are reported to happen without pops or switching noise. The reviewer had no problems using SPDIF inputs, but the distinction suggests that performance or reliability may be less consistent with another input.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
82/100
The DA06 is described as decently built for its price, with a metal outer shell, metal chassis, and rubber footer pads. The review does not provide further detail on its internal layout, power supply, or long-term durability.
Features Connectivity
72/100
The review confirms six selectable digital filters and indicates DSD playback capability, as well as SPDIF operation. It says little about the full input and output complement, remote control, display, balanced outputs, or other convenience functions.
Value for Money
85/100
The review identifies a retail price of $239, while the supplied product listing gives a price of $269.99. It finds the midrange and resolution competitive with similarly priced DACs, but does not offer a direct judgment of value against named alternatives.
