The Magne Gold Edition brings jet-black backgrounds, explosive dynamics and unwavering pitch to serious vinyl replay. Anthony Kershaw heard exceptional low-level insight and control, while The Ear praised its stable imaging, weighty bass and vivid tonal colour. Its air-bearing linear arm makes this a revealing, emotionally fluent analogue source.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"In any guise, First Gen or 10th Anniversary, you’re getting a Rolls Royce of a turntable that will stroke your analogue ego for many years to come."

— Audiophilia

"The greatest quality of this turntable however is its self-effacing sound, enabling the full capabilities of the cartridge and phono preamp to be fully appreciated."

— The Ear

Pros

Exceptionally quiet, transparent presentation with deep low-level detail and expansive soundstage insight.

Rock-solid speed stability supports convincing timing, drive and stable instrumental pitch.

Air-bearing tangential arm delivers firm bass, focused imaging, authentic tonal colour and strong ambience retrieval.

High-grade fit, finish and minimalist industrial design give the system a notably premium feel.

Cons

Air-bearing setup and analogue geometry reward careful installation and periodic adjustment rather than plug-and-play use.

The undamped, knob-operated arm lift can be less immediately intuitive than a conventional lever.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 96/100

Reviews describe an exceptionally transparent, controlled and emotionally involving presentation. The Magne combines stable imaging, powerful and well-founded bass, very quiet backgrounds and unusually strong retrieval of ambience and low-level detail.

Overall Sound

96/100

The Ear heard lively, vivid imaging, firm bass and abundant timing, energy, tonal colour and ambience, with no vagueness or smearing. Audiophilia similarly praised explosive dynamics, deep soundstage insight and piano tone free of the clangour heard from lesser decks; both reviews present the Magne as an exceptionally revealing source.

Speed Stability

97/100

Audiophilia measured 0.003% speed accuracy and found both 33 and 45rpm rock solid through two months of daily checks. The Ear also heard stable playback with gripping timing and drive, while Audiophilia noted unwavering piano pitch on long sustained chords.

Tonearm Performance

95/100

The supplied air-bearing tangential arm uses a damped double-wall carbon-fibre tube and lets the cartridge follow the groove without a conventional pivot. Reviewers found it highly secure in tracking and credited the system with digging deeply into the soundstage while preserving detail, dynamics and tonal authenticity.

Noise Isolation

95/100

The Ear reports that the compressor remained quiet beside the system and that correctly adjusted airflow becomes inaudible even near the turntable. Audiophilia heard very low noise and effectively black backgrounds, helping fine detail emerge clearly.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

90/100

The Ear found the plinth-and-platter assembly notably solid, with very high fit and finish throughout. The arm’s aluminium sled, damped carbon-fibre tube and aluminium headshell also point to carefully considered execution, although the reviews offer limited detail on long-term durability.

Features Usability

81/100

The Magne is a focused analogue system rather than a convenience-led turntable, but it includes its matching tangential arm and supports 33 and 45rpm playback. Its air-bearing operation requires correct compressor and airflow setup, so it is less plug-and-play than a conventional deck.

Value for Money

85/100

Reviewers regard the Magne as a premium purchase: The Ear called it a top-list choice for a buyer with roughly €10,000 to spend, while Audiophilia described the Anniversary package as a “Rolls Royce” turntable. Those comments concern earlier versions and prices, however, and the available reviews do not directly assess the Gold Edition at its current $22,500 asking price.
