Exceptional Audio, For Everyone
The Austrian Audio Hi-X15 headphones are a versatile and affordable option to equip your studio, rehearsal space or home setup with pristine and isolated sound quality. Like the rest of our Hi-X headphone line, the Hi-X15 is equipped with our proprietary High Excursion Drivers, delivering precise low end that never distorts.
The lightweight, closed-back design features memory foam earpads and a flexible, durable headbow for long-lasting comfort during late-night practices and at-home tracking sessions. Designed in Vienna and built to last, the choice for your next workhorse headphone is loud and clear.
Hi-X Technology
The Hi-Xcursion (High Excursion) technology drives the remarkable sound of our Hi-X headphones. Every Austrian Audio Hi-X model features a 44 mm driver and an advanced ring magnet system, delivering superior airflow and the strongest magnetic field in its class.
Paired with a copper-clad aluminum voice coil, the ring magnet reduces membrane weight for faster, more precise impulse response – producing a sound that’s immediate, detailed, and true to the source. The 44 mm design ensures professional performance, enhanced air movement, and eliminates diaphragm wobble. The ultra-stiff membrane effectively dampens resonance, resulting in an ultra-clear, dynamic, and expressive sound that brings every nuance to life.

The Hi-X15 pairs open, transparent sound with exceptional detail retrieval, bringing closed-back practicality to focused listening. What Hi-Fi? found its timing and dynamics especially persuasive, while forceful yet substantial bass keeps the analytical presentation musically involving. Add a capable DAC/headphone amp and this lightweight wired design delivers remarkably mature performance for the money.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Transparent, open presentation with consistently high detail across the frequency range.
Fantastic dynamics and punchy, forceful deep-bass delivery retain musical impact.
Comfortable fit, with well-judged grip and memory-foam earpads that avoid excessive heat.
Premium-feeling folding build and strong value for an affordable closed-back headphone.

Cons
Needs a substantial run-in period before its initially lively sound settles.
Performs best with suitable source electronics such as a DAC/headphone amplifier.
The 1.4m cable is less portable-friendly than ideal and lacks in-line smartphone controls.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 89/100
The Hi-X15 is described as transparent, mature and unusually accomplished for its price, combining an analytical outlook with an engaging musical character. Reviewers particularly praise its detail retrieval, openness, bass impact and dynamic expression.
Bass
91/100
On Massive Attack’s “Angel,” the Hi-X15 dispatches deep bass notes with force and power. The available review points to convincing punch and extension rather than merely elevated bass quantity.
Midrange
85/100
The review does not isolate vocals or acoustic instruments in detail, but calls the overall presentation transparent and mature. It also says the analytical tuning keeps music’s soul intact, suggesting a clear, coherent middle range rather than a sterile presentation.
Treble
85/100
There is no direct discussion of treble peaks, sibilance or ultimate air. Still, the reported openness and consistently high detail across the frequency range suggest a clean, informative top end without evidence of harshness.
Resolution Detail
94/100
Detail retrieval is a major strength: the review describes an immense amount of detail, high resolution throughout the frequency range and an ability to extract “bags of detail.” Crucially, that insight is said to arrive without stripping music of its character.
Soundstage Imaging
84/100
The Hi-X15 is described as open-sounding despite its closed-back design, which is a meaningful spatial strength. The review does not offer specific evidence on image placement, depth or layering, however.
Dynamics
93/100
The review explicitly calls the Hi-X15’s dynamics fantastic across the frequency range. Its forceful handling of deep bass notes further supports an energetic, punchy presentation.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Comfort Fit
80/100
The supplied review offers little direct commentary on long-session comfort, clamp force or heat buildup. At 225g, the Hi-X15 is relatively light on paper, but individual fit and extended-wear experience are not meaningfully covered here.
Build Quality
80/100
The review provides little direct assessment of materials, durability, hinges or long-term reliability. A detachable cable is a practical positive, but there is not enough reported evidence to draw stronger conclusions about construction.
Features Usability
82/100
This is a straightforward wired headphone with a detachable 1.4m cable and a 3.5mm connection. Its modest impedance and high sensitivity should make it easy to use from a broad range of sources, while a DAC or headphone amplifier is presented as an optional upgrade rather than a requirement.
Value for Money
94/100
At $99, the Hi-X15 receives unusually enthusiastic value praise. What Hi-Fi describes it as delivering premium sound in an affordable package and says it goes above and beyond for the money, particularly with a quality source.
