Inspired by Italian renaissance violin maker Nicolò Amati.

The fifth generation of the Amati loudspeaker pays tribute to artistic form and musical function.

A LEGACY OF SONIC PERFORMANCE AND DESIGN

The flagship of the Sonus faber Homage collection, Amati draws inspiration from the artistry of violin craftsmanship. Uniting artistic form and musical function, the 5th generation of Amati is infused with new technology and stunning detail.

ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE

Amati speakers feature lute-shaped cabinets with graceful curves, optimizing elegance and acoustics. Handcrafted in Vicenza, Italy, they use nine layers of wood, grain-matched and adorned with nine layers of fine lacquer. Meticulous handcrafting guarantees quality and elegance, echoing Sonus faber's woodwork tradition.

ENHANCED WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

Amati G5 incorporates essential Sonus faber technologies from the Homage collection. It features a striking midrange driver and woofer powered by advanced Neodymium magnets for precise midrange control. The redesigned woofer is equipped with ultra-light voice coils for improved speed and power, ensuring long-lasting, detailed sound without distortion.

ICONIC SONUS FABER DESIGN

Amati G5 unites Sonus faber’s most iconic materials and finishes.

TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN

In the latest generation of Amati, the most detailed artisanship converges with upgraded patented technology and iconic Sonus faber design cues.

PHASE COHERENT CROSSOVER

Crafted with Sonus faber precision, our Phase Coherent Crossover ensures immersive, three-dimensional sound throughout the room. Meticulously hand-soldered capacitors, Jantzen inductors, and custom clarity components guarantee sonic purity, high power handling, and minimal noise.

PHASE PLUG

Unveiled through advanced computer simulation, our innovative damping ring enhances driver performance by minimizing turbulence, guiding sound waves for a more consistent wave pattern, resulting in a smooth frequency response and exceptional clarity, on and off axis.

STEALTH ULTRA FLEX

As the crucial exponential section of our duct design, the Stealth Ultraflex enhances the aerodynamic airflow in our reflex duct system. Crafted from extruded aluminum, it not only bolsters the cabinet's structural integrity but also adds a touch of elegance with its deep grey brushed aluminum finish.

DAMPED APEX DOME TWEETER

In contrast to conventional soft dome tweeters that exhibit early high-frequency roll-off due to apex anti-phase behavior, the Damped Apex Dome tweeter inverts this pattern by effectively damping the silk soft dome tweeter's apex. This innovation eliminates anti-phase behavior and leads to improved high-frequency reproduction.

Overall Score 93/100

Rating for [object Object]

Deliciously Crispy

The Amati pairs a rich, orchestral low end with articulate mids and airy highs, delivering a deep, authoritative bass, silky treble and wide, layered soundstage, with room-filling presence, superb dynamics and precise imaging from its phase-coherent crossover and sealed mid chamber. Alan Sircom and Robert Silva note its refined timbre and hand-finished, flagship-class craftsmanship.

Pros

  • Powerful, extended bass down to ~28 Hz driven by dual 220 mm woofers in the Stealth Ultraflex vented system, giving authoritative low-frequency weight.
  • Natural, forward midrange and coherent imaging from the 3.5‑way topology with a sealed mid chamber (Intono) and high-quality, phase-coherent crossover.
  • Reference-level build and finish — lute-shaped, high-gloss cabinet, leather detailing and ZVT decoupling reflect meticulous craftsmanship.

Cons

  • Flagship-tier pricing places it as a major investment for buyers, reflecting its high-end positioning rather than value-for-money.

Sound Quality

94/100

Bass

95/100

Two 220 mm woofers in a vented system with a quoted 28 Hz extension and large 61 kg cabinets point to authoritative low end for a large tower. Specifications (dual 220 mm drivers, vented boxes, 28 Hz) justify an 'excellent' bass rating within the large-tower band.

Mid

94/100

3.5-way topology with a sealed midrange chamber (Intono) and dedicated mid driver (Ø150 mm) plus high-quality crossover parts suggest very natural, forward and coherent mids typical of Sonus Faber. The design choices target refined timbre and vocal presence.

Treble

93/100

28 mm extended-range soft dome tweeter with DAD Arrow Point and 35 kHz upper response imply very extended, detailed treble with low harshness. High-end components and phase-coherent crossover support refinement and air.

Soundstage Imaging

94/100

Large, lute-shaped cabinet, careful driver layout and phase-coherent crossover point to wide, layered soundstaging and well-focused imaging. The combination of sealed mid chamber and dedicated drivers favors stable images and depth.

Dynamics

93/100

High recommended amplifier power (50–450 W), 91 dB sensitivity and substantial cabinet mass indicate strong macro- and micro-dynamic capability and headroom. Expect controlled slam and authority without running out of steam for most sources.

Build Quality

98/100

Premium materials (high-gloss wood, leather, aluminum), 61 kg per speaker, ZVT spikes and bespoke cabinet shaping indicate reference-class fit-and-finish and mechanical engineering. Sonus Faber craftsmanship historically rates at the top of the category.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive tower baseline applied. The speakers provide 4 binding posts (Mid-Hi, Low) enabling bi-wire/bi-amp, but per passive-feature rules the connectivity score is capped at baseline.

Value for Money

70/100

At a price of 43,000 (flagship-tier pricing), these are a major investment; performance appears commensurate with flagship expectations but the lack of comparative reviewer commentary prevents rating this as exceptional value. High craftsmanship and performance mitigate some price concerns.
