*New matt white finish available from April 2023 - The white Planar 6 is supplied with a clear dustcover and clear dual layer float glass platter.
Ultra-Light
The Planar 6 is built around the huge success of the RP8 and RP10 turntables. It is the first new Rega turntable to be constructed with an ultra-lightweight Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core plinth (a material developed for the aerospace industry). This material is sandwiched between a new HPL (high pressure laminate). HPL is exceptionally thin whilst extremely rigid and is presented in a stunning Polaris matt grey finished with high gloss polymer black edge trim.
The Planar 6 now benefits from a single piece, machined aluminium sub-platter, a new 24 V motor hand tuned and matched to its own Neo power supply and custom drive pulley fitted with our upgrade drive belt as standard.

The Rega Planar 6 brings vinyl’s musical momentum into sharp focus, pairing high-resolution clarity with exceptional timing and clean, expressive dynamics. Its lightweight, rigid plinth and Neo PSU help uncover vocal nuance, tightly controlled bass and layered treble; The Ear highlights its remarkably low coloration and rhythmic coherence. A seriously refined manual deck for hearing deeper into cherished records.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Exceptionally revealing, low-colouration sound with clear vocals, strong dynamics and convincing musical coherence.
Excellent timing and speed control make complex rhythms and musician interplay easy to follow.
Lightweight foam-core construction feels notably rigid, solid and carefully finished.
Neo PSU offers convenient electronic 33/45rpm switching and supports highly stable rotation.
&
Cons
The leaner tonal balance may not suit listeners seeking the warmer, thicker presentation of some rivals.
Needs a stable support, capable cartridge and quality phono stage to perform at its best.
Its discreet grey finish is less visually striking than some similarly priced competitors.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 93/100
The Planar 6 is repeatedly praised for its transparent, rhythmically assured presentation, combining strong resolution with convincing musical energy. Reviews also point to excellent pitch control and a low mechanical noise floor, although it benefits from careful placement and isolation.
Overall Sound
95/100
The Ear calls it a “stunningly revealing” turntable with remarkable vocal clarity, strong dynamics and an unusually coherent way with complex rhythms. PortaFi likewise heard balanced, dynamic sound with tight bass, clean layered treble and a convincing soundstage, while Audiophilepure found large classical crescendos realistic and powerful.
Speed Stability
94/100
The supplied Neo PSU provides electronic 33/45rpm switching and uses a crystal-controlled DSP sine-wave generator intended to maintain accurate speed despite mains fluctuations. The Ear specifically praises the P6’s timing and ability to make shifting tempos and musician interplay easy to follow.
Tonearm Performance
90/100
The hand-assembled RB330 is a well-regarded match for the deck, with AudioAdvice highlighting its zero-tolerance bearings and calling it an engineering feat. Hi-Fi Choice notes the P6 version adds a more substantial custom stainless-steel counterweight, though the reviews offer limited direct discussion of tracking adjustments or cartridge compatibility.
Noise Isolation
89/100
The Ear attributes the deck’s high information retrieval and dynamic expression in part to its mechanically calm behavior and lower noise levels. Its external power supply and energy-filtering feet are designed to limit interference and vibration, but The Ear notes that the P6 still needs decent isolation.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
92/100
Reviewers find the lightweight construction notably rigid and substantial rather than flimsy. Hi-Fi Choice praises the high standard of the contact points and solid feel, while the foam-core, laminate-skinned plinth, double bracing, revised hub and dual-layer platter show purposeful resonance-conscious engineering.
Features Usability
87/100
The external Neo PSU makes 33/45rpm selection simple without moving the belt or adding controls to the plinth. It remains a focused manual design with conventional RCA/phono connection rather than a convenience-led deck, but the supplied power supply is a genuinely useful feature.
Value for Money
94/100
The Ear describes the P6/Ania package as very competitively priced and suggests that better turntable-and-arm combinations can cost far more. Hi-Fi Choice notes that the £1,398 package saves nearly £100 compared with buying the Ania separately, though AudioAdvice rightly observes that a roughly $2,000 package remains a significant purchase.
