The new A5 is a flagship A-Series model (3 way / 5 driver design) which incorporates the company’s first 5-inch pure midrange driver as well as enhanced midrange and bass driver cone technology. These new advanced cones achieve unprecedented stiffness-to-weight ratio, a key parameter that Magico has pursued over the past 15 years. The massive, sealed enclosure of the A5 is formed entirely of 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminum, the same material and construction methods as in Magico’s acclaimed Q-Series. Complex internal bracing helps stiffen the entire enclosure and minimize unwanted resonances and colorations, allowing all drivers to perform with stunning resolution and dynamics. The A5 is finished in an elegant brushed black anodized aluminum with grilles available separately as an option. “The A Series has been a great success in reaching a wider audience,” says Magico’s founder, Alon Wolf. “The A5 builds on that success with a new 5-inch midrange of extraordinary musicality. And the A5 ‘plays larger,’ with powerfully extended dynamic range.”

Bass

The 9” bass drivers in the A5 feature a newly enhanced version of Magico’s Graphene Nano-Tech cones. Graphene, a hexagonal lattice of carbon and in relation to its thickness, it is about 100 times stronger than the strongest high-carbon steel. The new cone design combines Graphene layered carbon fiber with advanced new core materials to achieve the highest possible stiffness to weight ratio. Extensive computer simulation and prototype testing allows engineering to create the driver chassis frame with an ideal combination of stiffness and damping, with minimal acoustical contribution and maximized airflow. The new bass driver incorporates oversized components including a 5-inch pure Titanium voice coil and huge copper cap with ½” of linear excursion. The super-stabilized magnetic field enables the A5 to output thundering levels of bass, producing 115 dB SPL (@ 50 Hz, 1 meter), while maintaining very low distortion and inductance below 0.18 mH. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) provides Magico engineers a single platform to assess acoustical, mechanical, electromagnetic and thermal properties. This meticulous testing helps minimize distortions in the frequency and time domains.

Midrange

The new 5-inch full-cone midrange driver enables wider dispersion and greater midrange transparency. Like the bass driver, the midrange also incorporates an advanced Graphene carbon fiber sandwich cone. A new long-life foam surround helps achieve ideal cone/surround integration, faster settling time and impressively low distortion. The all-new motor system features a pure Titanium voice coil that operates in a super-stabilized magnetic field with a pure copper pole cap to minimize eddy currents and maximize efficiency. This latest midrange driver design truly sets a new benchmark of measured performance. A dedicated sub-enclosure houses the midrange driver, protecting it from the extensive back wave energy of the bass drivers.

The tweeter dome is based on the fundamental design platform and geometry of the M-Series tweeters and shared with the other A-Series models; the tweeter incorporates a pure beryllium-diaphragm with an optimized 28-mm dome. Magico encases the customized neodymium motor system in an engineered back chamber with the company’s most advanced damping materials. This enables ultra-low distortion, high power handling, massive dynamic capabilities and extended linear voice coil movement.

M-Resist Ultra Foil Resistors

The A5 will be the first product in the world to offer Mundorf’s new M-Resist Ultra foil resistors. Now perfected after years of development, the new resistors deliver greater power handling, transparency and liquidity. The Elliptical Symmetry Crossover topology acoustically integrates all five drivers using a full complement of state-of-the-art components from Mundorf EB Gmbh of Cologne, Germany. The 3-way network features a 24 dB per octave Linkwitz-Riley filter that maximizes frequency bandwidth while preserving phase linearity and minimizing intermodulation distortion.

Deliciously Crispy

The Magico A5 is defined by its deep, linear bass and a new 5" mid that delivers midrange transparency, combining to produce a wide, holographic soundstage and exceptional dynamic headroom. Reviewers from Jeff Fritz and HiFi News praise its articulation, low distortion and flagship-level build.

SoundStage Solo

"The A5 is a proclamation, a statement, with as potent a message as Magico’s own flagship M6, or the soon-to-be-launched M9."

Pros

  • Deep, linear and tuneful bass with extension into the low 20Hz region and high SPL capability.
  • Dedicated 5" pure midrange delivers exceptional vocal clarity, presence and microdetail.
  • Holographic, wide and stable imaging with strong off‑axis performance.
  • Flagship-grade 6061‑T6 aluminium cabinet plus refined Nano‑Tec/graphene cones give outstanding rigidity and very low cabinet/driver distortion.

&

Cons

  • Relatively low sensitivity (88dB) and a nominal 4Ω load mean it benefits from a robust amplifier.
  • Very large and heavy (≈180 lb / 82 kg per cabinet), which can complicate placement and installation.

Bass

97/100

Triple 9" graphene woofers in a sealed, heavily braced cabinet; reviewers repeatedly report linear extension to ~20Hz, room-lock, 115dB SPL capability and tuneful, non-boomy low end (SoundStage, SoundStage Australia, HiFi Choice).

Mid

95/100

Dedicated 5" pure mid in its own sub-enclosure; reviewers praise tonal accuracy, presence and microdetail with vocals and piano described as 'tonally perfect' and 'crystal clear' (SoundStage, Hi‑Fi+, SoundStage Solo).

Treble

94/100

28mm beryllium dome tweeter; highs described as detailed, balanced and fitting neatly into the band without glare—excellent shimmer, air and percussive clarity (SoundStage, SoundStage Australia, HiFi News).

Soundstage Imaging

96/100

Consistently reported as holographic with wide, deep, stable imaging and excellent off-axis performance; speakers 'disappear' to create precise, well-sized images (SoundStage, HiFi+, Audiophilepure).

Dynamics

95/100

High headroom and transient control; reviewers note chest-impacting macro dynamics, effortless scaling with volume and superb transient attack/decay with no compression (SoundStage, HiFi Choice, HiFi News).

Build Quality

96/100

6061‑T6 aluminium, heavy internal bracing, Blackhole damping and graphene/carbon‑fibre/Al honeycomb cones; reviewers call the cabinet inert, exquisitely finished and flagship-level in fit and finish (SoundStage Australia, HiFi News, SoundStage Solo).

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive three-way Linkwitz‑Riley/Elliptical Symmetry crossover using Mundorf M‑Resist Ultra parts; passive baseline score applied (no DSP/appification).

Value for Money

92/100

Multiple reviewers describe the A5 as a strong value within high-end ("best deal in high-end", "gateway to higher-end") given its performance versus price, though cost remains substantial across markets.
