Dellichord FR6

FR6 (2) coming soon

Huge bass & difficult spaces – Welcome to innovative acoustic engineering. The Dellichord FR6 Stand Mount Speakers are crafted for a great performance and huge bass even in acoustically challenging spaces. Engineered specifically so that no seperate subwoofer is needed. You will wonder “how does so much bass come from such a small box?

Dual mid-bass drivers in isobaric formation – The secret is the dual, mid-bass drivers in isobaric formation and an oval passive radiator working together in a compact real wood enclosure.

Dellichord FR6 – Great living spaces can be difficult listening spaces

The main goal was to achieve a full-range, accurate, and detailed sound that could perform well even in difficult acoustic environments. This is especially true for our modern, open plan, tiled and glass living spaces, overly bright or damped rooms. The speakers needed to sound smooth and easy to listen to in our own homes. In this way, the FR6 speakers fit seamlessly into any space, blending classic sophistication with a fatigue free, live music experience.

Although aesthetics and tactile quality are important in loudspeakers, sound quality must always be the number one priority. In that regard, the FR6 uses high-quality drive units, crossover components, and ETI binding posts. The real engineering innovation is in the cabinet design, which allows the FR6 to achieve an exceptionally wide frequency response from a modest, bookshelf-sized enclosure.

The FR6 is a deceptively complex little speaker. It employs TWO mid bass drive units – one hidden inside the enclosure in an “isobaric” compound arrangement, and the other visible on the front baffle. On the back is an oval passive radiator that looks like another drive unit but actually provides turbulence-free, extra-deep bass instead of using a reflex port.

The isobaric arrangement allows for a smaller cabinet while still providing substantial low bass extension. The passive radiator avoids the “chuffing” or port noise of a port, again without requiring a larger enclosure.

These two main factors allowing the FR6 to reach deep into the bass range like a large subwoofer, yet it can easily fit on a TV cabinet or bookshelf.

Tweeter – has a wide surround 29mm soft dome offering a very sweet sound with every delicate detail of the music reproduced clearly. The dispersion pattern at higher frequencies is also less likely to excite reflections in modern rooms. It has its own small rear chamber which imbues it with a very low resonant frequency. The FR6 employs a relatively low cross over frequency of 1700Hz. Accurate third order filter slopes on both the bass units and tweeter allow the tweeter to perform flawlessly in a distortion free manner.

Stereo Imaging – The cross over is constructed (designed and assembled in-house) on a fibreglass circuit board. The goal is consistency to ensure stereo imaging is always as good as it can possibly be through perfect matching of one loudspeaker to the next. The components employed are of premium quality including metal film resistors, polypropylene capacitors and both air cored and P cored inductors.

Speaker stands – The size of the Dellichord FR6 speakers allows use on TV cabinets or shelves, however they will produce the most stable stereo image when properly positioned on quality speaker stands. Using stands also enhances the already impressively fast and agile base of the FR6. This is thanks to its 2-driver, 1-passive design.

Overall Score 90/100

Rating for [object Object]

Nicely Roasted

The Dellichord FR6 surprises with remarkably deep bass for its compact standmount form, thanks to its isobaric drivers and rear racetrack passive radiator. Reviewers praise its natural, full-bodied midrange and precise imaging, delivering expansive soundstage depth and timbral accuracy without harsh treble. Edgar Kramer at SoundStage Solo highlights its craftsmanship and musical balance.

SoundStage Solo

"In other words, small speaker, big sound."

Pros

  • Deceptively powerful, controlled low-frequency extension driven by an isobaric woofer plus a large racetrack passive radiator.
  • Natural, well-bodied midrange with excellent timbral accuracy that preserves vocal and instrumental character.
  • Impressive soundstage depth and imaging for a standmount, offering notable width, height and ambient decay.
  • High-quality Australian-made cabinet, veneers and hand-assembled crossover components; build and finish described as impeccable.

&

Cons

  • Benefits from a high-current amplifier (around 80 W or more) to fully reveal dynamics and low-end punch.
  • Modest sensitivity (85 dB) and 4-ohm nominal impedance mean amplifier selection matters for optimal performance.
  • Indented rear binding-post panel can make fitting bulkier cable terminations awkward.

Sound Quality

91/100

Bass

92/100

The FR6 uses a 165mm woofer plus a large racetrack passive radiator and reviewers repeatedly describe "deceivingly deep" and "prodigious" low end — in short, great bass for its size. Review evidence cites controlled, detailed extension that at times felt like a small or mid-sized floorstander; the PR and driver combine to deliver notable extension and authority.

Mid

91/100

Multiple comments praise timbral accuracy: "quite superb for a speaker at this price point" and "excellent timbral replication." Vocals and instruments are described as natural and well-bodied, with a musical, non-syrupy presentation that supports high confidence in midrange performance.

Treble

88/100

The 29 mm soft textile dome tweeter is reported to be refined and smooth, providing appropriate detail without harshness. Reviewers emphasize insight and balance rather than incisive brightness, implying good extension and low risk of sibilance but not extreme airiness.

Soundstage Imaging

92/100

Soundstage depth, width and height are singled out as among the best the reviewer has heard from a standmount, with realistic separation and ambient decay. Good driver integration and a well-thought-out crossover are cited as contributors to strong imaging and dimensionality.

Dynamics

88/100

Dynamics and low-frequency punch are praised but reviewers note the FR6 benefits from a high-current amplifier (roughly 80 W and up) to fully reveal its capabilities. When driven properly the speakers deliver muscular transient attack and convincing macro dynamics for the form factor.

Build Quality

92/100

Construction and finish (Australian MR MDF, real-wood veneers, clear satin finishes) receive strong praise — "impeccable overall build quality." The grille is magnetic and the crossover described as in-house with high-quality components, supporting a high workmanship score.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive baseline applied (single-post passive bookshelf baseline = 80). Spec'd 4-ohm nominal impedance and 85 dB sensitivity are noted and imply amplifier selection matters, but lack of DSP/streaming is not penalized for a passive speaker.

Value for Money

80/100

Review praise frames performance as strong "for this price point," yet the listed price (7799) is on the premium side; reviewers commend timbre, bass and build but stop short of calling it an unbeatable bargain. Good value for buyers seeking high-quality voiced, made-in-Australia standmounts but priced toward the high end of the market.
