Campfire Audio’s most ambitious earphones yet fuse dynamic, balanced armature, electrostatic and bone-conduction drivers inside a single CNC-machined magnesium shell
Campfire Audio today unveils Chimera, a groundbreaking flagship in-ear monitor (IEM) that brings four distinct driver technologies — dynamic, balanced armature, electrostatic and bone conduction — together in a single design, handbuilt in Portland, Oregon. The result is a listening experience that is both vividly detailed and physically immersive. Chimera will be previewed publicly for the first time at CanJam Singapore (16–17 May), with global pre-sale opening 16 May and shipping expected from early summer 2026.
“Chimera is the most advanced in-ear monitor we’ve developed at Campfire so far,” said Ken Ball, Founder of Campfire Audio. “It reflects a new horizon in the performance of Campfire products and expands on what is possible from compact, portable audio systems. It brings together a range of technologies and engineering techniques to create an experience that truly deepens the listener’s connection to music.”
Nine-driver architecture
At the heart of Chimera is a nine-driver architecture that combines four distinct driver technologies, each contributing to a different aspect of its performance. A newly developed 10mm True-Glass dynamic driver handles the low and low/mid frequencies; a dual-diaphragm balanced armature delivers midrange detail; and two dedicated high-frequency balanced armatures provide clarity and articulation. Extending further into the upper range are four electrostatic super-tweeters, designed to add air and precision to high-frequency content.
For the first time in a Campfire Audio IEM, Chimera also incorporates a bone-conduction driver, embedded directly into its CNC-machined magnesium shell. This allows low frequencies to be experienced both acoustically and physically, adding a sense of weight and impact that complements the rest of the system.
Supporting this configuration is a series of internal acoustic elements, including an embedded pressure valve to regulate airflow behind the dynamic driver, and a final-stage “Master Track” tuning damper integrated into the nozzle. Together with Campfire’s precision acoustic routing and spatial tuning, these components balance the output across the frequency spectrum while maintaining cohesion between the different driver types.
Precision in design
Chimera’s exterior reflects the complexity of its internal design, combining lightweight construction with carefully selected materials. Its shell is machined from billet magnesium and finished with a durable PVD coating, available in both gold and black variants. The material was chosen not only for its strength and reduced weight, but also for its ability to support the performance of Chimera’s integrated bone-conduction driver.
The faceplate features a carbon fibre–brass Damascus construction, where layers of brass are folded into carbon fibre and CNC-machined to create a distinct, patterned surface. Each unit carries subtle variations in its finish, giving every pair a unique visual identity with a shifting lustre as light moves across the surface.
Additional details include a machined brass nozzle with an integrated mesh screen, custom brass fasteners for reinforcement, and standard 2-pin connectors.
In the box
Chimera ships with a full suite of accessories, including the ALO Audio Valence-6 cable — marking the reintroduction of the ALO Audio brand. Engineered to deliver a new level of performance and synergy with Chimera, the cable features four high-purity copper conductors alongside two 50/50 copper and silver-plated copper conductors. Termination housing, y-split and chin slider are finished in black anodised aluminium.
