Class AB power amplifier perfectly matched to a wide variety of loudspeakers, thanks to the selectable damping factor. The proprietary optical BIAS offers high power combined with very low distortion: it controls the reference voltage with great precision and stability compared to traditional systems. The optical signal analysis takes place separately from the audio path, ensuring loudspeaker protection and unbeatable performance. The PA-1175 MkII is designed to minimise all kinds of RFI and EMI interference, taking advantage of the thick aluminium panels featuring the typical Gold Note design.
BTL [Bridge-Tied-Load] technology allows the stereo amplifier to be bridged, transforming it into a mono power amp and increasing its power output from 200W@8Ω per channel to the considerable 520W@8Ω per channel. Thanks to this feature, the most demanding loudspeakers on the market can be easily driven.

The PA-1175 MkII power transformer is a special toroidal design featuring a spiral core. The refined mechanical process makes the core completely stable, cancelling out any mechanical vibrations and guaranteeing exceptional performance and perfect isolation. A small secondary transformer takes care of all auxiliary functions to preserve the audio signal.
The PA-1175 MkII also features a proprietary technology that allows the damping factor to be selected directly from the front panel, enabling all types of loudspeakers to be driven.
Setting the damping factor to 250DF allows the full potential of large, low-sensitivity loudspeakers to be exploited, while the value at 25DF is a perfect match for high-efficiency loudspeakers or small monitors that do not like the high current output of large amplifiers.

Gold Note PA-1175 MkII — disciplined, powerful stereo/mono power

The PA-1175 MkII is a compact Class A/B amplifier that delivers strong current and control with 200W per channel into 8Ω and bridgeable BTL mono to 520W. It combines an 80,000µF power reservoir, a cut-spiral toroidal transformer on vibration isolators and a user-selectable damping factor (25/250) to tune bass control and speaker coupling. Reviewers at HomeTheaterHifi praised its low distortion, neutrality and excellent dynamics, while Dagogo highlighted the DF versatility. 6 Moons noted an exceptionally precise, slightly reserved presentation that rewards break-in and matching. The chassis, finishes and balanced I/O feel premium, though reviews call out awkward BTL wiring/post spacing. Ideal for listeners who want tight control, refined imaging and high-power headroom.

HomeTheaterHifi

"The Gold Note PA-1175 MkII Stereo Power Amplifier delivers low distortion at high output and is clean and neutral in sound."

Pros

  • Serious raw power and flexible mono option — 200Wpc stereo, bridgeable to 520W for demanding speakers or mono operation.
  • Excellent dynamics and low distortion, driven by a large power supply reservoir that maintains control at high output.
  • Selectable damping factor (25/250) gives musical flexibility for different speaker types and listening preferences.
  • Robust, well-engineered chassis and toroidal transformer with vibration isolation deliver a quiet, premium build and excellent imaging.

Cons

  • BTL/mono speaker-post spacing can prevent standard speaker leads from reaching the bridged terminals, complicating mono wiring.
  • Recessed BTL switch and small rear controls make switching to mono awkward to access and verify.
  • Some reviewers found the voicing a touch precise or restrained, favoring control over warmth and musical bloom; careful speaker matching and break‑in help.

Sound Quality

Dynamics

90/100

Multiple reviewers praise the PA-1175 MkII's dynamic authority — HomeTheaterHifi calls the dynamics "excellent" and ties them to the large power-supply capacitance (80,000 µF). The amp is a Class A/B 200 Wpc design that becomes noticeably juicier and more powerful when bridged to mono (520 W) per Dagogo and 6 Moons; selectable high damping (250) and a substantial toroidal transformer further support strong transient control and speaker grip. Minor comments about a slightly 'cool' or 'aloof' overall presentation (6 Moons) temper an otherwise very capable dynamic performance.

Soundstage Imaging

89/100

Imaging and soundstage are repeatedly praised: HomeTheaterHifi says Vivaldi's Four Seasons "never sounded better," and 6 Moons highlights exceptionally precise layering, clear separation and very low self-noise. The amp preserves spatial cues even when bridged, delivering scale and clear channel separation, though the slightly more analytical presentation can make the stage feel very precise rather than lush.

Build Quality

88/100

Physical construction and internal design earn strong marks: reviewers cite a solid, 'vault-like' chassis, a substantial toroidal transformer (630–640 VA described), vibration-isolating mounts and quality binding posts. There are practical shortcomings noted — Audiophilepure and others report a frustrating speaker-post spacing in BTL/mono mode that can make cable termination awkward — so excellent engineering is tempered by a bothersome connectivity/layout detail.

Value for Money

89/100

Reviews place the PA-1175 MkII in the high-end/premium bracket (6 Moons: €5,500/ea or €11,000/pr as reviewed in mono; HomeTheaterHifi cites MSRP ~$8,199 USD; product data lists ~$8,795), and its 200 Wpc stereo rating (bridgeable to 520 W mono) plus low distortion, robust supply capacitance and selectable damping support its premium status. Given the consistent praise for performance and build quality versus less expensive stereo amps, reviewers generally treat the price as a justified premium rather than a bargain — good value for buyers seeking disciplined, high‑power Class A/B performance but not a 'steal'.
