Absolute Musicality. Luxuriously Beautiful.
Powerful, emotional and authentic Hi-Fi sound from a luxuriously beautiful instrument.
Conveying the emotional story of artists can only truly be achieved with an intimate understanding of how music is created. This understanding is embedded in the Yamaha DNA, developed particularly through working with artists to help them create music. It’s this understanding that enables Yamaha to truly convey all the emotion ingrained in the music to the listener.
Toroidal Transformer
Toroidal power transformers, renowned for their superior performance in Hi-Fi components has been appointed to power the A-S2200. Its ability to maintain energy when compared to substitutes aids the A-S2200 in delivering all the emotional energy of the artist infused in the music.
Gorgeous Level Meters
The level meters are both a nod to the nostalgic era of Hi-Fi while simultaneously demonstrating the importance of pure Hi-Fi for today’s discerning enthusiast. Visually presenting the dynamics and pulse of the music, the level meters imbue a warm feeling through their softly illuminated LEDs.
True Hi-Fi brings the artist to the forefront and makes the listener forget where they are. Music listening becomes an active experience rather than a passive activity. The openness in the Yamaha Hi-Fi range delivers this musical experience.
Thick Wires for Ground Connection
A naturally open sound stage is achieved through a culmination of design and component selection. Thick wires for ground connection were purposely selected, adding to the overall low impedance amplifier design, producing a wide and open sound stage for the listener. Consequently, the components disappear, leaving the artist in their place.
Original Speaker Terminals
Cut directly from pure brass, the luxurious speaker terminals effortlessly allow tightening by hand, achieving a highly secure connection.
Music is more than a story. The rhythm and groove of the music reaches the listener, consciously or subconsciously, to evoke a feeling from the story that’s within the music. Presenting the music as intended by the artist achieves this for the listener.
Mechanical Ground Concept
The Mechanical Ground Concept adopted in the A-S2200 maximizes rigidity and reduces any unwanted vibration, achieving expressive and rhythmic bass. Further rigidity is achieved with the large power transformer, block capacitors and heat sink directly bolted to the chassis while the feet, with bolts directly welded to the main chassis, provide further reinforcement for absolute rigidity.
Chrome-Plated Brass Feet
Completing the amplifier rigidity are the heavy-duty chrome-plated brass feet.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 93/100
Reviewers describe the Yamaha as exceptionally convincing and musical, with extremely low noise, believable tonality, and a strong sense of three-dimensionality. It is praised for making voices and instruments sound natural and for presenting recordings with a real feeling of space, while also sounding bigger and more effortless than its rated power suggests.
Transparency Resolution
93/100
Reviewers highlight the very low noise floor and describe the presentation as clean enough to let tonality and spatial cues come through clearly. The amplifier is repeatedly called convincing and revealing, with no sense of haze or obvious masking in the quoted remarks.
Tonal Balance Musicality
95/100
This is one of the strongest areas in the reviews: voices and instruments are called completely convincing, the tonal realism of a grand piano is specifically praised, and the amp is described as effortlessly musical and forgiving. Reviewers also like the way it smooths rough edges without losing energy or excitement.
Dynamics
92/100
Although it is rated at 90 watts, reviewers say it sounds bigger and more effortless than that figure would suggest. They also note a stronger willingness to attack uptempo music and describe the amp as authoritative, controlled, and never sluggish.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
Reviewers repeatedly mention three-dimensionality, a genuine sense of space around recordings, and a tangibly real presentation on sparse material. The stereo image is described as believable and well-proportioned rather than flat or vague.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
94/100
Reviewers are consistently impressed by the large, heavy chassis, the chunky power supply, and the beautifully arranged circuit layout. It is described as beautifully made and finished, with thoughtful physical controls and a substantial feel that suggests careful construction.
Features Connectivity
90/100
The A-S2200 offers a strong analog feature set: balanced XLR input, three line inputs, tape loop, MM/MC phono stage, pre-out and main-in, dual speaker outputs, and a headphone jack. It is explicitly analog-only, with no digital inputs, DAC, or streaming functions, so the feature set is comprehensive for analog users but not broadly modern in connectivity.
Value for Money
89/100
Reviewers present the price as justified by the combination of performance, flexibility, and superb build quality rather than as a bargain. It is described as a compelling device whose connectivity and musical performance sweeten the deal, but the comments stop short of calling it a standout value proposition versus cheaper alternatives.
