Value for Money

The WiiM Pro Plus makes streaming feel effortlessly high-end: its open, organised sound combines spacious imaging, taut bass and revealing vocal detail with a remarkably polished control experience. What Hi-Fi? highlights its expressive performance and slick app, while broad connectivity, multi-room capability and high-resolution streaming make this compact unit an exceptionally accomplished digital hub.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Pros
Clear, detailed and cohesive sound with a spacious, well-defined soundstage, expressive midrange and controlled bass.
WiiM Home app is slick, stable and intuitive, with extensive streaming-service and protocol support.
Exceptional flexibility for the money, including analogue and digital I/O, preamp operation, multi-room streaming and Roon Ready support.
Outstanding value: reviewers consistently regard it as difficult to outperform at its modest price.
&
Cons
Plastic chassis and supplied remote feel functional rather than premium.
Presentation can sound slightly cool or lean, with limited large-scale dynamic weight in less sympathetic systems.
Closely spaced recessed RCA sockets can make bulky analogue interconnects awkward to fit.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 89/100
The Pro Plus is widely praised for an open, orderly and detailed presentation that performs far beyond its modest asking price. Its strongest qualities are clarity, timing and imaging, while several reviewers find its tonal balance slightly cool or lean and its large-scale dynamic expression somewhat limited.
Tonal Balance Musicality
88/100
Reviewers describe a clear, cohesive and expressive sound, with natural, characterful vocals, controlled sibilance and taut bass. The tonal balance is repeatedly described as a little cool, with Future Audiophile hearing a leaner, slightly hash-like treble and Ecoustics noting that fuller partnering equipment is beneficial.
Resolution Detail
91/100
Detail retrieval is a consistent strength: What Hi-Fi praises a detailed, expressive and organised sound, while StereoNET hears high detail levels, spacious imaging and convincing low-level dynamic nuance. Fine vocal inflections, instrumental strands and leading edges are rendered clearly, although StereoNET finds the biggest dynamic swings less fully expressed.
Digital Performance
89/100
The upgraded AKM DAC stage is regarded as highly capable for the money, and reviewers praise the clean, balanced presentation, stable operation and useful digital-output flexibility. Several listeners still find that a higher-grade external DAC can bring greater calm, texture, transparency and refinement, while one reviewer reports the digital output does not equal more expensive specialist streamers.
FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 95/100
This is an unusually complete and polished streaming front end, combining an exceptionally well-regarded control app with broad protocol, service and connection support. A few physical-interface niggles and occasional Wi-Fi inconsistency do little to diminish its practical appeal.
Streaming Software
95/100
The WiiM Home app earns exceptionally strong praise for being logical, stable, intuitive and quick to set up; What Hi-Fi considers it better than apps supplied with some more established rivals. Alpha Audio reports flawless installation plus quick, reliable UPnP, Tidal and Qobuz operation, while Future Audiophile calls the app seamless and ready within minutes.
Features Connectivity
94/100
The Pro Plus supports a notably broad range of services and control ecosystems, including AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Roon Ready operation, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and major voice assistants. RCA line input and output, optical input/output, coaxial output, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EQ and preamp functionality make it highly flexible, though Future Audiophile experienced occasional spotty Wi-Fi and the supplied remote receives little enthusiasm.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
79/100
The compact casework is functional and carefully assembled, with well-finished recessed connections noted by Ecoustics. However, reviewers consistently describe the enclosure and remote as plasticky or flimsy, and StereoNET notes that the closely spaced recessed RCA sockets can be awkward with large-barrelled interconnects.
Value for Money
97/100
At around $219/£219, reviewers repeatedly regard the Pro Plus as exceptional value against competing network streamers. StereoNET calls it without peer at the price, Ecoustics makes a strong case for it as the best budget streamer of 2023, and What Hi-Fi says it is extremely difficult to better as an affordable entry into streaming.
