Wharfedale SUPER LINTON
The new Wharfedale SUPER LINTON represents a significant milestone in innovation for Wharfedale, being a standout addition to the globally best-selling Heritage series.
This updated model is part of a line of award-winning speakers that are renowned for their exceptional musicality and have won the hearts of tens of thousands of music lovers. Led by Peter Comeau, the Director of Acoustic Design, Wharfedale’s engineers revisited every aspect of the speaker’s design, including the cabinet, drive units, and crossover. The outcome of their efforts is the newly upgraded Super Linton.
OVERVIEW
The current iteration of the Wharfedale LINTON was launched in 2019 and has since become one of the company’s most successful loudspeakers… ever! Not only in the number of pairs sold but also in terms of awards, accolades and endorsements from enthusiasts and press alike.
As part of Wharfedale’s world-famous heritage series, LINTON can boldly but confidently claim to be one of the most astounding value loudspeakers of recent times.
Not only is LINTON an exception in design, build, and styling, but its industrial design and acoustic performance have been universally welcomed as a loudspeaker that brings musicality back to music and romance back to home hi-fi.
Still going strong and one of the most sought-after loudspeakers in the market, LINTON is going nowhere soon and remains a jewel in the crown of Wharfedale’s ever-popular Heritage series.
However, as a brand with more heritage than most and the unparalleled ability to deliver artisan cabinetry, category-leading, and price-point-defying loudspeakers, the Wharfedale LINTON’s appeal has room to expand.
Unlike the SUPER LINTON of ’67, which was’ Super’ on the basis of mainly improved cabinet design, the new SUPER LINTON is genuinely SUPER in every way. Not detracting from its sister, the current LINTON, the SUPER LINTON takes one step further in engineering and performance in almost every aspect. The result is a moderately more expensive but extensively more capable loudspeaker that forms the perfect addition to the Heritage series, offering an upgrade path for existing LINTON owners but also bridging the gap between the flagship, made in the UK DOVEDALE model.
Super what and super how?
Like the original ‘Super’ concept, the new SUPER LINTON benefits from an enlarged cabinet and propriety Wharfedale sandwich cabinet design that features a resonance-reducing combination of two layers of MDF complemented with a layer of acoustic damping glue.
A new bass unit and a more powerful motor system enhance the low-frequency performance, extending down to 32Hz! This results in a more dramatic and impactful low-end.
For the treble output, SUPER LINTON features a lightweight fabric weave dome coated with special damp-ing material and supported by a ceramic magnet motor system, contributing to its sweet and detailed char-acter. The revised short horn profile ensures smooth response down to the upper midrange, and the new front plate design enhances high-frequency dispersion, matching the transient impact and detailing of the new bass unit.
A new revised chamber for the midrange drive unit works to cancel out mid-band specific back waves by multiple layers of long-hair fibre, resulting in a more natural prominence of the vocal and instrument frequencies.
A new split-PCB crossover design blends the drive units together while avoiding electromagnetic interference. The crossover also benefits from custom-specified components chosen for neutrality and optimum signal transfer. SUPER LINTON even goes as far as employing PE dielectric and LCOFC cabling for pristine signal transfer.
Recognisable as having ‘LINTON DNA’, the SUPER LINTON’s appearance is a modest update. However, new considerations were made for the driver array and cabinet dimensions. SUPER LINTON sits a modest 50mm/2 ins taller than the current LINTON model. This modest increase in dimensions means the SUPER LINTON doesn’t require anything different in footprint or spacing – in fact, it is designed to use the same LINTON Stand for optimum positioning… the much-cherished benefit of LP storage remains!

32Hz extension anchors the Super Linton's expansive, three‑way presentation, delivering deep, controlled bass with surprising refinement. Upgraded drivers and a split-board crossover tighten midrange and treble for excellent imaging and dynamics, per Ed Selley and Mike Prager. The result blends vintage looks with modern clarity and a wide soundstage.
Pros
- Deep, well-controlled bass that extends to ~32Hz, giving standmount-scale impact and extension.
- Upgraded drivers and a split-board crossover improve midrange coherence and treble clarity.
- Wide dispersion and strong imaging create an expansive, usable soundstage for multiple listeners.
- Robust sandwich cabinet construction and high-quality finishes reduce resonance and feel premium.
&
Cons
- High frequencies can be a touch forward or sibilant at first and may need extended break-in or careful system matching.
- Premium pricing for a standmount speaker means buyers should weigh value against floorstanding alternatives.

Bass
92/100
8" (200mm) Kevlar woofer in a vented bass-reflex cabinet with quoted -6dB extension to 32Hz. For its size and enclosure the speaker should deliver deep, well-controlled bass with good extension and slam; ported design and large cabinet volume (33.4L) support low-frequency output.
Mid
91/100
Dedicated 5" (135mm) Kevlar mid driver in a three-way design implies strong timbral accuracy, forward vocal presence and body. The 3-way topology separates duties well, supporting clarity and texture through the midband.
Treble
89/100
1" (25mm) soft dome tweeter should provide a smooth, refined top end with good extension to 20kHz. Expect detail and air without harshness; slightly conservative treble character likely given the soft-dome choice.
Soundstage Imaging
90/100
Three-way layout with a dedicated mid driver and substantial cabinet size supports precise imaging and solid depth/width. The speaker's physical footprint and driver alignment suggest stable, well-focused images and good staging for standmount speakers.
Dynamics
89/100
90dB sensitivity and 25–200W recommended amp range indicate strong dynamic capability and headroom. The large 8" woofer and vented design should deliver convincing macro-dynamics and punch when paired with an able amplifier.

Build Quality
92/100
Heavy (~19.8kg/pc), substantial cabinet volume and Kevlar drivers point to robust construction and quality components. Wharfedale's heritage and the use of woven Kevlar cones suggest good cabinet bracing and driver engineering.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive single-post speaker baseline applied (fixed passive bookshelf baseline). No DSP, wireless or active electronics expected or penalized.
Value for Money
84/100
At the listed price (~2699), the Super Linton appears to offer high-end construction, deep bass extension (32Hz) and three-way performance that competes well with peers in this price band, though the price is premium for standmounts.
