Unison Research S6 Black Edition
The S6 Black Edition amplifier is able to meet the needs of the most demanding users, featuring.
To improve the S6 we worked on its strengths and we went even further to achieve higher sound quality.
The circuitry has been revised in the signal path and power management, again surpassing the milestones already achieved in the S6. Power output is now 40W, 15% more than the standard model. The polarisation of the power output valves has been completely revised to eliminate the capacitor and cathode resistor.
The input selection circuit has been implemented using the same technology designed for our most valuable equipment and extreme care has been taken in the design of the ground paths and channel separation. The valuable audio signal, where possible, travels protected in high-quality coaxial cables.
All the new Black Edition series are equipped with 3 digital inputs USB,SPDIF and Toslink.

Unison Research S6 Black Edition
The S6 Black Edition marries classic tube warmth with modern digital precision. With 3x KT77 power valves per channel and 2x ECC83 preamp tubes driving 40W into 6Ω, it delivers a transparent yet musically engaging signature: tight, controlled bass, expressive midrange and airy treble, all presented on a wide, well-layered soundstage. Its very low noise floor preserves microdetail and improves perceived dynamics. The built-in Sabre ES9018K2M DAC (USB to 384kHz, DSD256) plus S/PDIF and TosLink inputs, relay input selector and subwoofer output make it a flexible hub for modern systems. Built like a tank (25kg) with Gold Lion valves, adjustable bias and Cathode Capacitor Less technology, it suits listeners who want tube character without sacrificing high-res digital playback; Audiophilepure highlights its increased power, detail and very low noisefloor.
Pros
- Marked improvement in power, detail and an exceptionally low noise floor compared with the standard S6, enhancing dynamics and microdetail.
- Integrated high-performance DAC (Sabre ES9018K2M) with USB (PCM up to 384kHz, DSD256), S/PDIF and TosLink delivers modern connectivity and high-resolution playback.
- Robust, premium build: Gold Lion valves, relay input selector with Return GND technology, adjustable bias and Cathode Capacitor Less design indicate careful engineering and long-term serviceability.

Dynamics
88/100
Review states the Black Edition 'gained more power' versus the standard S6 and highlights a very low noise floor ('Noiseless as a solid-state amplifier'), implying improved headroom and transient clarity for a tube amp. Given the 40W/class-A tube topology (KT77s in parallel) this is strong dynamics for its class but not reference-level for very high-power solid-state designs.
Soundstage Imaging
90/100
Design intent quoted by the maker focuses on 'sound scene reconstruction' and recreating a sound event 'as close to reality as possible, without artifice,' which reviewers echo; that language supports very good imaging, depth and coherence. The combination of low noisefloor and tube tonal cues likely contributes to a holographic, well-layered presentation.

Build Quality
90/100
Specifications and review detail substantial engineering choices: 25kg chassis, Gold Lion ECC83 and KT77 valves, relay input selector with Return GND Technology, adjustable bias per power valve and Cathode Capacitor Less (CCL) tech — all indicating high-quality components and thoughtful thermal/bias management. The weight, relays and high-end tubes point to robust construction and premium internal parts.
Features Connectivity
90/100
The S6 Black Edition includes a built-in DAC 'DAC3' using the Sabre ES9018K2M (flagship-class ESS) and supports USB (PCM to 384kHz, DSD to DSD256), S/PDIF and TosLink inputs; there is also a stereo subwoofer RCA output. These add up to a well-featured integrated amp in this category (high-quality DAC + multiple digital inputs + sub out).
Value for Money
86/100
The listed price is €7,499 but the single review does not provide explicit value judgment; per guidelines this yields a neutral baseline assessment. Given the high-end components, built-in high-quality Sabre DAC and premium build, the price sits in an expected high-end tube-integrated bracket, but reviewers did not explicitly call it a bargain or overpriced.
