Triangle Magellan - Quatuor 40th
Premium Floorstanding Speaker - Magellan Quatuor 40th
Music as if you were at the opera. The sound image takes on a whole new dimension here, filling the space with sophistication. The Quatuor 40th, a 135cm high 3-way floorstander, is the flagship of the new MAGELLAN 40th anniversary edition.
With a new dome made of magnesium alloy, its horn tweeter reveals the finest details of your recordings smoothly and accurately. The Quatuor 40th is characterized by the addition of a rear tweeter that allows the speaker to radiate energy to the front and rear of the transmitting point. The sound level is better distributed, and the placement of the speaker simplified.
The 16cm driver with a paper diaphragm and small pleat suspensions, a distinctive feature of TRIANGLE speakers, reproduces any vocal register with great neutrality and without the slightest coloration.
The powerful and extensive bass of the three 16cm drivers is perfectly suited for modern music as well as for a prestigious string quartet or a cello suite. Its proprietary SVA diaphragm and its cooling system provide exceptional performances in the bass and sub-bass register.
Its extended bandwidth and its significant reserve of power make it possible to easily provide sound in rooms larger than 30m2.
DPS2 Dynamic Pulse System
On the Quatuor 40th anniversary model, the addition of a rear tweeter that allows the speaker to radiate energy to the front and rear of the transmitting point, much like a symphony orchestra would. With this gain of energy initially lost off axis from the listening point, the sound volume is better distributed in front of the listener. This allows for easier placement of the speaker in the room and a stable and deep sound image with great openness without distorting the original signal.
SVA Membrane
The driver features a proprietary SVA diaphragm. This computer-modeled composite diaphragm is characterized by a ‘sandwich’ structure, composed of a double sheet of fiberglass with a cellulose pulp internal structure.
It provides the ideal combination of mass damping and rigidity to the moving coil. The driver thus handles strong impulses without distortion.
Solid wood cabinet
The cabinet of the MAGELLAN 40th anniversary edition has been carefully designed to ensure total reliability. The curved shape of the cabinet is made of successive layers of high-density fiberboard, each 3mm thick, thus excluding any internal parallels.
This cabinet is characterized by a specific architecture resulting from a thorough study of the vibrations and micro-deformations of the cabinetry. Reinforcements have been placed strategically to make sure the cabinets are rigid enough to withstand the powerful vibrations generated by the drivers at high volume levels.

Led by an astonishing midrange, the Magellan Quatuor 40th pairs articulate, natural vocals with a cavernous, layered soundstage and tight, punchy bass. Horn-loaded magnesium tweeters and DPS2 rear dispersion yield silky treble and expansive ambience, while multi-layer bracing and meticulous veneers underline premium build — praised by hi-fi+ and Part Time Audiophile for speed and musical cohesion.
Pros
- Exceptionally clear, forward midrange that delivers lifelike vocal presence and fast transient attack.
- Outstanding 3D imaging and deep layering — a holographic soundstage that fills the space between and beyond the speakers.
- Tight, punchy bass with controlled dynamics and excellent transient detail — prioritises quality and speed over sheer subterranean extension.

Cons
- Placement-sensitive: benefits from careful distance, toe-in and wide stance; can overawe smaller rooms if not positioned correctly.
- Large, heavy cabinets and a fiddly plinth/spike system make initial setup and fine adjustments cumbersome.

Bass
94/100
Three 6.5" woofers deliver tight, punchy, and well-controlled bass with a -3dB point near 30Hz; reviewers note excellent quality though not deepest 20Hz extension (PT Audio, hi-fi+). Strong low-frequency authority for a triple-6.5" design, prioritizing texture over subterranean quantity.
Mid
98/100
Both reviews praise an exceptional midrange: clear, detailed, warm and forward with great transient attack and lifelike vocal presence. Described as the speaker's 'heart and soul' and 'ultimate expression' of Triangle's sound.
Treble
91/100
Tweeter is smooth, slightly warm and silky rather than overly bright; rear-firing second tweeter adds ambience and expansiveness. Very refined and non-fatiguing, trading a little air for sweetness and integration with the midrange.
Soundstage Imaging
96/100
Multiple reviewers report exceptional 3D, holographic imaging, deep layering and precise image focus; fills space between and beyond speakers. Width is fine though depth and layering are standout attributes.
Dynamics
95/100
Speakers are fast with compelling micro/macro dynamics and excellent transient attack (taiko, timpani, standup bass highlighted). Reviewers noted lively, lusty dynamics that keep pace with the expressive midrange.

96/100
High-end finishing, meticulous veneers and metalwork, heavy well-braced cabinets (multi-layer HDF, extensive bracing/chambering). Fit-and-finish and driver/crossover execution described as handmade, first-rate.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive tower baseline applied (per rules). Bi-wire capable binding posts noted, but score capped to passive baseline.
Value for Money
90/100
At the stated price (~20k), reviewers call the Quatuor a 'worthy flagship' and argue it competes with models well above its price, making it strong value for the performance despite premium cost.
