Theory Audio Design sb25 High Output Multi-Use Loudspeaker
You have never had such a compact and capable loudspeaker in your system design toolbox before.
The Theory sb25 is a wide-bandwidth, high-output multi-use loudspeaker, perfect for restaurants, bars, hotels, retail stores, houses of worship and anywhere high-resolution, high-fidelity background or foreground sound is needed.
Capable of astonishing range and output, the 3.8” deep sb25 is literally a jack of all trades and will have you rethinking how you incorporate sound in your next high-value project.
SMOOTH. ACCURATE. EXTENDED.
The sb25 Listening-Axis Frequency Response is remarkably flat and extended insuring the highest accuracy and highest-resolution available.
(SOUND)POWERFULLY GOOD.
The CEA2034 or “Spinorama” data encapsulates the performance of a loudspeaker in a typical room. The sb25 “Listening Window” and Sound Power responses are ruler-flat, exactly the response that delivers accurate timbre, unmatched detail and coherence to the listener’s ears.
ACCURATE ALL THE WAY TO NINETY.
The sb25 horizontal off-axis response is predictable and smooth all the way to 90 degrees.
OVERLAPPING CIRCLES.
The sb25 offers wide dispersion all the way to the very top audio octave. Everyone hears wide-band, detailed sound.
GAIN CONTROL.
The “Directivity Contour Plot” shows the speaker’s dispersion characteristics using color to represent output magnitude. A quick inspection of the sb25’s contour plot reveals its very wide, but very uniform dispersion.
LISTEN WITH YOUR EYES.
Here is the data shown in the Directivity Contour Plot shown again on a polar map, making it easier to “see” how the sound is dispersed from the loudspeaker itself. The 0° axis represents the axis perpendicular to the speaker baffle.. The sb25 coverage is very wide and uniform, all the way to the top audio octave: >120° at -6dB even at 12kHz! Everyone in a broad area receives full-range sound with delicate, extended treble response.
VERTICALLY UNCHALLENGED.
The sb25’s vertical directivity is wide and predictable - especially for a two-way speaker with multiple LF drive units - making it easy to get uniform, broad-band coverage in every listening location.
PIVOT. POLE. PAN. TILT. ADAPT.
The sb25 ships with z-clips for flat-to-wall mounting.
The sb25 Universal Mount Adapter optional accessory facilitates the mounting of the sb25 in any scenario: pole from ceiling, pole from ground, onto any 75mm or 100mm VESA mount, and a number of pan-and-tilt and ball mounts for wall and ceiling mounting from Adaptive Technologies and Omnimount.
TAKE A STAND.
The sb-STAND stand accessory for Theory sb model soundbars and surface mount speakers allows the sb25 to stand up on a flat surfaces such as speaker stands, mixing desks, consoles, tabletops and bookshelves.

Built for wall-mounted installs, the sb25 High Output Multi-Use Loudspeaker punches well above its size with astonishing dynamic range and high sensitivity, delivering surprisingly loud, clean performance and tight bass from a shallow enclosure. Reviewers Vince Hanada and Ian White praised its coherent imaging, compression‑driver detail, and pro-grade build.
Pros
- Exceptional dynamics and sensitivity enable high output and headroom from a very shallow on‑wall cabinet.
- Surprising low‑end extension and tight bass for its size — bass is comparable to larger bookshelf speakers and often negates the need for a sub in smaller rooms.
- Coherent imaging and neutral mids with revealing high‑freq detail from the compression driver, delivering precise placement and engaging musicality.
&
Cons
- Best results require the Theory ALC‑1809 controller/DSP for optimal crossovers and voicing, adding complexity and cost to a system.
- A slight top‑end emphasis can be noticeable in very live or reverberant rooms, where the highs may come across as forward.

Bass
92/100
Dual 5" woofers deliver tight, well-controlled low end; reviewer noted the sb25s "played loudly and effortlessly" and that a subwoofer "wasn't mandatory." Bass described as comparable to large bookshelf speakers and distinct on plucked notes, supporting an "excellent" rating within the small-tower band.
Mid
92/100
Mids are neutral and coherent, with seamless crossover blending; reviewer praised tonal neutrality and vocal/instrument clarity. When used without the recommended controller the speakers sounded more "laid back," implying the design benefits from proper processing but mid accuracy is strong.
Treble
90/100
High frequencies are revealing with a slight emphasis, letting minute detail through; reviewer called the highs "very revealing" but only slightly emphasized. Treble extension and detail are excellent though a mild top-end lift keeps the score below reference-level.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
Imaging is a strong suit — precise placement and good layering were noted. Reviewer could mentally locate drums and cymbals and described cohesive stereo blending with no obvious crossover artifacts.
Dynamics
94/100
Speakers were described as "remarkably dynamic" with realistic snap on drums and crisp, tight beats. High sensitivity and reported effortless loudness corroborate strong micro- and macro-dynamic performance and headroom.

Build Quality
92/100
Extruded and machined aluminum enclosure with fabric grille and substantial 23 lb weight indicates premium construction. Physical engineering matches the sonics and supports stable performance for wall-mount use.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Passive baseline applied. Twin spring-loaded push terminals; requires Theory-certified controller for best results per manufacturer and reviewer, but lack of DSP/app streaming is not penalized for a passive speaker.
Value for Money
88/100
Reviewer priced the sb25 at $850 each and said they compete well with comparably priced bookshelf speakers; strong performance for an unobtrusive on-wall design supports a very good value rating versus peers at similar price.
