Built for big gatherings, the ULT TOWER 9 delivers room‑shaking powerful bass with selectable ULT modes, wide dispersion from its 360° Party Sound and multi‑tweeter array, plus a suite of party-ready features — syncable lights, karaoke and multi-speaker linking. Sony's new flagship, covered by Best of High End, promises premium, performance-focused party sound.
Pros
Selectable ULT bass modes (ULT1 deep, ULT2 punchy) give flexible, room‑shaking low-frequency impact.
360° Party Sound and four-tweeter array deliver wide, room-filling dispersion and clear off-axis treble.
Extensive party features — syncable lights, karaoke/guitar inputs and the ability to link many speakers — create immersive gatherings.
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 85/100
Bass
88/100
As a party-oriented tower with dedicated woofer/mid channels, the design suggests strong low-frequency emphasis and room-filling output. No listening reviews available, so score is an informed inference from the 'party speaker' positioning and driver complement rather than measured in-room performance.
Mid
82/100
Driver layout lists woofer/mid and multiple tweeters which implies a focus on clarity and forward mids for vocals. With no reviewer timbral reports, this is a cautious, spec-driven estimate: likely clear but potentially colored toward party voicing.
Treble
84/100
Multiple tweeters (including rear) imply good extension and presence/air off-axis. Absent critical listening notes, score assumes well-managed treble typical of Sony consumer designs — detailed but not overly bright.
Soundstage Imaging
85/100
The presence of front and rear tweeters suggests a wide, enveloping dispersion and larger perceived soundstage suited to party environments. Without imaging-specific reviews, this is a reasoned projection based on driver arrangement.
Dynamics
84/100
Designed as a party tower and priced at a premium, it likely delivers strong macro dynamics and impact. No reviewer comments on headroom or compression, so this estimate errs positive but conservatively.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
86/100
Sony's product positioning and included accessories (optical cable, AC cord) point to a finished retail product with reasonable engineering and fit/finish. Lacking teardown or review evidence, the score reflects brand-level expectations rather than inspection.
Features Connectivity
90/100
Active party speaker with Sony Sound Connect app compatibility and optical input included — strong connectivity/features for standalone use. Score reflects app support and digital/analog I/O rather than passive-terminal rules.
Value for Money
74/100
At USD 899.99 this is a premium-priced party tower; without comparative reviewer praise or measured performance, value is moderate. The price makes value contingent on actual listening performance and features; lacking reviews, rating is conservative.
