Unsurpassed Sound

The most ambitious project of Sonus faber to date, Suprema reflects the pinnacle of audio engineering. Building on a legacy of artisanal design and a relentless pursuit of perfection, Suprema honors the 40th anniversary of a brand dedicated to pushing the boundaries of audio excellence.

Extending Beyond Conventional Limits

Suprema consists of a sophisticated four column system— two main columns and two subwoofers, and an external electronic crossover. This new design was pioneered by Sonus faber’s engineering team to enhance acoustic performance to new levels of excellence.

Legacy Redesigned

The two main columns of Suprema take the signature Sonus faber lute shape, originally introduced with Guarneri in 1993.

This iconic design represents the optimal solution for enhancing a virtual soundstage while blending seamlessly into the background. The two subwoofers, in contrast, take on Stradivari’s elliptical shape, which is most suitable for the reproduction of low frequencies.

An Innovative Combination of Drivers

Each of the two main columns of Suprema is a 4.5 ways system, featuring 2 back-firing speakers in addition to 8 front-firing speakers— 4 dual drive woofers, 1 mid-woofer, 1 Camelia midrange, 1 mid-tweeter, 1 super tweeter. The back-firing speakers improve staging and dispersion while the combination of front speakers allows for unparalleled audio reproduction at every level of frequency.

Voice of Sonus faber, Evolved

In developing Suprema, careful attention was paid to maintaining and enhancing the signature Natural Sound of Sonus faber. The configuration of the tweeters and midranges evolves into three brand new elements: one midrange with a cellulose pulp diaphragm, a new mid-tweeter with a treated silk dome, and a new super tweeter with a treated silk dome.

The Pinnacle of Sonus faber Design

Suprema is available in four standard finishes and an array of personalization options. Each pair is designed to match aesthetically with its subwoofer and external crossover.

NATURAL MATERIALS COMBINE FOR THE ULTIMATE SONIC EXPERIENCE

Each material was selected for its unique qualities.

When combined, they complement and enhance each other’s strengths. Suprema uses carbon fiber for its exceptional resistance, wood for its harmonic qualities, and solid aluminum CNC specifically machined for its static qualities.

INNOVATION IN FULL BLOOM

While the use of natural materials is a hallmark of Sonus faber tradition, the electro-acoustic design has been completely reimagined. The new Camelia midrange, responsible for the most important part of the acoustic spectrum, was developed to ensure maximum resolution, while maintaining the signature Natural Sound of Sonus faber. The form of the new membrane is inspired by the camelia— a prized flower in the region of Tuscany. Its shape is not masked by suspensions and avoids the formation of resonances typical of circular shapes.

NEW DUAL DRIVE MAGNETIC SYSTEM

Control and dynamics are secured by the new dual drive magnetic system. The air flow management is held by the organic basket, a Sonus faber original design first implemented on Stradivari woofers.

Cork internal volume

The special combination of tweeters and midrange are loaded into a unique chamber dedicated to internal volume, designed to enhance the performance of the drivers. Obtained through the use of a computer simulator, the result is a purely organic shape, without regular interior walls and built in a new, natural and sustainable material: cork. Sonus faber can proudly claim to be the first to use recycled cork to create acoustic volume. The acoustic properties of this material play a fundamental role in the resolution and natural quality of the midrange performance.

THE SUPREMA SUBWOOFER

For the best reproduction of infrasonic frequencies, a separate subwoofer system has been engineered to optimize the low range response based on the listening environment, regardless of the position of the main columns. The Suprema Subwoofer uses two powerful 38cm transducers, featuring forged carbon fiber membranes and a neodymium magnet motor system to ensure undistorted pressures up to 16hz.

THE CROSSOVER NETWORKS

These cutting-edge filters, sleekly visible on the sides of the main column, embody a decade of electroacoustic expertise. Sonus faber meticulously crafted Suprema’s tonal perfection through simulations, tests, and listening sessions, ensuring impeccable soundstage performance. The Suprema's integration with subwoofers is managed by a dual mono, fully balanced electronic crossover. Suprema's ground coupling control, in collaboration with IsoAcoustics, achieves exceptional dynamics and power while preventing unwanted vibrations.

Poltrona Frau Leather

In keeping with our brand's tradition, the front panel is adorned with luxurious leather, a collaboration with the esteemed Italian luxury forniture brand, Poltrona Frau. Each set of Suprema speakers will showcase distinctive Poltrona Frau’s Pelle Frau® Impact Less leather, a chromium-free tanning process leather launched in 2022.

Deliciously Crispy

Sonus Faber’s SUPREMA pairs reference-level dynamics with effortless, seamless low end — twin 15" carbon-fiber subwoofers reach to 16Hz while remaining integrated — and a crystalline, natural midband from the new Camelia driver. Reviewers from SoundStage Solo and Audioholics praise its precise midrange resolution and expansive soundstage imaging.

Audiophilepure

"Had I not seen the subwoofers in the room, I wouldn’t have been able to tell where they were."

Pros

  • Exceptional macro- and micro-dynamics — stays clean and controlled even at very high SPLs.
  • Seamless sub integration with true extension down to 16Hz for undistorted, impactful low-frequency output.
  • Natural, high-resolution midrange driven by the new Camelia driver and a cork-lined chamber for refined timbre.

&

Cons

  • Stratospheric MSRP (~$750,000 for the two-sub system) places it firmly in collector/luxury territory.
  • Low-frequency performance is room-dependent; careful sub placement and room tuning are required to avoid modal issues.
  • Demands very high-power amplification and extensive system integration, increasing total cost and setup complexity.

Bass

95/100

Multiple reviewers highlight true sub-16Hz capability via the dedicated subwoofers (two 380mm drivers) and an analog Linkwitz-transform crossover; subs integrate seamlessly with the towers and deliver undistorted low-frequency pressure (StereoNET, SoundStage Solo, Audioholics). Some room-dependent variation in in-room bass was noted, so score reflects reference-grade extension and control with typical room caveats.

Mid

95/100

Reviews praise the new Camila pulp midrange and differential-drive design for exceptional resolution and natural timbre; vocals and midband are described as 'precisely as recorded' and musically detailed (SoundStage Solo, StereoNET, Audioholics). The midrange coherence across the crossover is emphasized by reviewers.

Treble

94/100

High frequencies (20k–40kHz reach) handled by multiple silk-dome tweeters are reported as refined, airy and non-harsh, with improved mid-high clarity aided by isolation hardware (Audioholics, StereoNET). Reviewers report excellent extension and detail without brightness.

Soundstage Imaging

95/100

Imaging is repeatedly described as outstanding: properly scaled, well-proportioned, and stable with sources placed accurately in depth and lateral position (SoundStage Solo, Audiophilepure). The cabinet shaping and internal cork chambers are cited as contributing to the 'disappearing' speaker effect.

Dynamics

95/100

Multiple reviewers note exceptional macro- and micro-dynamics, with the system remaining clean 'as loud as you want' and able to handle high power without strain (SoundStage Solo, Audiophilepure). The dual-drive motor systems and heavy motors in the subs underpin slam and control.
