Sonus Faber Lumina II
Room-filling sound in a compact form.
The Lumina II enriches the range of two-way speakers in the Lumina family, offering a perfect solution for smaller rooms with uncompromising Natural Sound.
LARGE VOLUME IN A COMPACT DESIGN
The larger of the two bookshelf speakers in the collection, the Lumina II has a larger volume and 150mm mid-woofer.
PERFECT VERSATILITY
Lumina II maintains a compact and versatile design perfect for placement within a bookcase or shelving unit. It can also be positioned as rear channels in a home theater system.
SIMPLICITY AND STYLE
Lumina takes note of Sonus faber’s iconic natural materials.
SIMPLICITY, STYLE, AND PERFORMANCE
Lumina takes note from core Sonus faber technologies, design, and manufacturing principles – transforming them into a beautifully minimalistic masterpiece, made in Italy.
TWEETER
The iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter, the same used in the Sonetto collection, features a Kurtmueller hand coated soft silk diaphragm of 29mm. The chrome rings around the drivers highlight their shapes and proportions and give brightness to the front baffle.
MIDWOOFER
Lumina II features a brand-new 6’’ midwoofer developed for this collection. It is equipped with a custom-made basket and a diaphragm composed of cellulose pulp blended with other natural fibers.
REFLEX PORT
The reflex port gives additional versatility for the models’ range. Placed on the frontside of the speakers, this solution makes Lumina II significantly less sensitive to placement, delivering powerful and nuanced sound even when placed close to a back wall.
TERMINALS
Each pair of Lumina IIs feature two pairs of nickel-plated terminals, allowing for an upgradable experience through bi-wiring and bi-amping.

Pros
- Exceptional, natural-sounding midrange and vocal realism that preserves texture and timbre.

Cons
- Treble can be forward or bright on- and off-axis for some systems, often requiring mild EQ or placement tweaks.
- Headroom is naturally limited at extreme SPLs compared with larger monitors—may feel winded when pushed very loud.
Sound Quality
91/100
Weighted average of sub-criteria below.
Bass
91/100
For its size (150 mm woofer in a vented enclosure) the Lumina II delivers unexpectedly deep and well-controlled bass: reviewers report measured extension to ~55 Hz and useful in-room extension to ~45 Hz, "moves a surprising amount of air" and 'meaningful extension below 50Hz' (HiFi Choice, HomeTheaterHifi, Part Time Audiophile). Several reviews describe the bass as 'surprisingly deep' and impactful, though not seismic and some recommend a sub for the deepest extension.
Mid
94/100
Consistently praised as the speaker's strongest asset — "truly fabulous midrange", 'flat' nearfield-to-listening-position response, clarity and natural tonal quality (Sound Advice, HomeTheaterHifi, HiFi Choice). Reviewers highlight detailed, realistic vocal timbre and excellent driver handover.
Treble
86/100
Lively, detailed treble with good extension, but several reviewers note a bright presentation on- and off-axis and some listeners applied ~4dB of treble reduction to taste (Erin's Audio Corner, HomeTheaterHifi). The Damped Apex Dome tweeter and waveguide control help reduce harshness, but tonal balance may require minor EQ or speaker placement adjustments.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
Multiple reports of effortless imaging and three-dimensionality — speakers 'disappear' and produce believable instrument placement and depth; handover between drivers is seamless (HomeTheaterHifi, Sound Advice, HiFi Choice). Imaging is consistently described as a strong point.
Dynamics
90/100
Generally fast, propulsive and engaging with good articulation and rhythmic drive; reviewers note strong transient detail and convincing impact for the size (HiFi Choice, Sound Advice). A few notes that at extreme SPLs the speakers can feel 'winded' and they won't match large standmounts' headroom.

Build Quality
93/100
High level of fit-and-finish: multilayer wood front baffle, leather-coated sides/rear, attractive finishes and careful assembly. Reviewers call the build 'extremely good' and highlight Sonus faber's traditional craftsmanship and use of proven drivers.
Features Connectivity
82/100
Passive-bookshelf baseline applied (80) with +2 for dual binding-posts / bi-wiring capability (reviews/specs note two pairs of nickel-plated binding posts and Hi/Mid-Low terminals). No penalty for lack of DSP/streaming; front slot port and forgiving placement noted.
Value for Money
95/100
Multiple reviewers explicitly praise value — MSRP cited around $1,199 / ~£1,000 and reviewers call the Lumina II 'very reasonable', 'hugely compelling', 'exceptionally hard to beat at the price' and award Best Value/Reviewer Choice. Given consistent, strong value language versus peers and the performance relative to price, this aligns with the 'strong value' tier.
