Powerful performance, compact dimensions.

Lumina I takes inspiration from Sonus faber’s core designs and technologies, packaged in a sleek and minimalistic bookshelf speaker.

IMMERSIVE AND VERSATILE

The Lumina I is the most compact high-end passive loudspeaker in its category. This feature makes it extremely easy to place, turning it into the perfect choice for smaller spaces.

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED

Lumina I has obtained global acclaim for its surprising power in musical reproduction and the emotional performances contained within its small dimensions.

SIMPLICITY AND STYLE

Lumina takes note of Sonus faber’s iconic natural materials.

SIMPLICITY, STYLE, AND PERFORMANCE

Lumina takes note from core Sonus faber technologies, design, and manufacturing principles – transforming them into a beautifully minimalistic masterpiece, made in Italy.

MIDWOOFER

Lumina I features a brand-new 4” midwoofer developed for this collection. It is equipped with a custom-made basket and a diaphragm composed of cellulose pulp blended with other natural fibers.

TWEETER

The iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter, the same used in the Sonetto series, features a Kurtmueller hand coated soft silk diaphragm of 29mm. The chrome rings around the drivers highlight their shapes and proportions and give brightness to the front baffle.

TERMINALS

Each Lumina speaker featuers two pairs of nickel-plated terminals, allowing for an upgrade experience through bi-wiring and bi-amping.

REFLEX PORT

The reflex port gives additional versatility for the models’ range. Placed on the frontside of the speakers, this solution makes Lumina II significantly less sensitive to placement, delivering powerful and nuanced sound even when placed close to a back wall.

Nicely Roasted

The Sonus Faber Lumina I delivers an unexpectedly large, engaging sound from a compact cabinet, led by a refined midrange that puts vocals front and centre. Its silky treble and controlled, surprising bass create a warm, layered soundstage that belies its size, while reviewers at HiFi Choice and What Hi‑Fi? praise its build and tonal poise, making it an appealing entry-level classic.

HiFi Choice

"The Lumina I is a little speaker with big ambitions."

Pros

  • Natural, vocal-forward midrange with open, musical timbre that reveals extra sweetness after break-in and pairs well with the right amplification.
  • Silky, detailed high end that avoids edge or sibilance while retaining clarity and air.
  • Remarkably punchy, controlled bass for a compact standmount — front-reflex port and tuning deliver more low-end impact than the dimensions suggest.

&

Cons

  • Low sensitivity (84 dB) and 4 Ω nominal impedance mean the speaker benefits from a stronger, well-powered amplifier to reach its best dynamics.
  • Limited dynamic reach compared with larger rivals — not the best choice for very large rooms or listeners who demand seismic, room-rattling bass.
  • Some finishing details (moulded plastic base/front port assembly) feel less premium than the otherwise high-end cabinet and leather wrap.

Sound Quality

89/100

Bass

88/100

Front-reflex port and 65Hz quoted roll-off give punch and surprisingly deep bass for a small standmount; multiple reviewers call it 'more substantial than you might expect' though not deep or gut-rattling. Controlled, taut and articulate in-room but still limited in sub-bass extension.

Mid

90/100

Consistently praised midrange: natural, warm and vocal-forward. Reviewers note opening-up after break-in and that vocals/articulation are a genuine strength when paired with the right amp.

Treble

90/100

Damped Apex Dome tweeter yields silky, smooth extension without edge; reviewers highlight refined, detailed highs that blend well with the midrange and avoid sibilance.

Soundstage Imaging

90/100

Multiple reports of a convincing, layered soundstage — 'disappears' well and provides depth and image focus. Not the widest stage but excellent layering and centre locking for its size.

Dynamics

82/100

Responds well when driven but has limited dynamic reach relative to larger rivals; several reviewers note it prefers more power to show its best and won't deliver large-scale dynamics or seismic impact.

Build Quality

90/100

Luxury materials and real-wood veneer with leather wrap and solid cabinet construction are repeatedly praised. Minor critique about the molded plastic base, but overall fit-and-finish is high-end for the price.

Features Connectivity

82/100

Passive bookshelf baseline applied (80) plus bi-wire/bi-amp binding posts (+2). No deduction for lack of DSP/streaming; nominal impedance (4Ω) and 84dB sensitivity noted affecting amp selection.

Value for Money

86/100

Good value as an entry-level Sonus faber: premium looks and tonal performance at ~£799 noted by reviews. Price is competitive in a crowded segment, though some rivals offer greater dynamic reach or deeper bass for similar money.
