Sonus Faber Electa Amator III
A CELEBRATION OF OUR NATURAL EVOLUTION
A persistent passion for excellence that brings together an homage to the past and a pursuit of progress.
COMMEMORATING A MILESTONE
Electa Amator III is the celebration of Sonus faber’s 35th anniversary. After three and a half decades of craftsmanship and revolutionary audio reproduction, this milestone afforded the opportunity to reflect on what makes our equipment unique and recognizable.
ESSENCE OF HERITAGE
In the Electa Amator III, our past takes the shape of a musical instrument. A small but powerful speaker, Electa Amator III inherits the characteristics of the previous two generations, celebrating models that contributed most to the international success of Sonus faber. This third generation expresses our natural evolution that keeps enhancing the elements that make us unmistakable: precious materials, high craftsmanship and Natural Sound.
LEGACY REFINED
Electa Amator III is the achievement of a decades-long journey. The 2-way bookshelf system is the restyling of one of our most symbolic loudspeakers. A 6.5-inch mid-woofer specifically designed for this project features the classic cellulose pulp cone. The continued use of organic materials evolves our commitment to Natural Sound.
AN INSIDE LOOK
The innovative reflex port allows a look inside at the solid wood rear acoustic chamber of the tweeter, which is enhanced with Damped Apex Dome technology for smoother extension in the high frequencies.
A CELEBRATION OF PRECIOUS MATERIALS
Electa Amator III brings together a beguiling combination of natural materials.
CARRARA STAND
The Carrara Stand, featuring aluminum, brass, Carrara marble and iron spikes, is a tribute to Italian artistry, designed for the Electa Amator III
CLASSIC DESIGN, MODERN INNOVATION
A tribute to Sonus faber’s heritage, craftsmanship, and technology, Electa Amator III stays faithful to our iconic design philosophy while delivering exceptional balance and power through enhanced technology.
RAW MATERIALS
The solid walnut wood of the cabinet delivers the warm sounds that characterize our voice. It is harmoniously combined with the marble base through a metal insert that illuminates the lines and enhances each material. Hand-applied leather envelopes the rear panel and front baffle.
SOLID FOUNDATIONS
Marble, a precious natural material, enhances the warm shades of wood. Shiny metal accents complete the aesthetics with an enchanting finishing touch. Dedicated black anodized aluminum columns, filled with damping material and mounted on a marble base, provide solid loudspeaker support.
D.A.D. TECHNOLOGY
The silk dome tweeter, with a diameter of 28mm, features the DAD technology (Damped Apex Dome). With the extension of a ring radiator, this technology prevents resonances and pulls “anti-phase” movements at the apex of the soft dome by locally damping the diaphragm.

The Electa Amator III blends silky, detailed highs with surprisingly muscular bass, delivering a three-dimensional, emotionally involving soundstage that belies its size. Reviewers like Todd Cooperider and What Hi‑Fi? praise its refined treble and substantial low end, while the heirloom build—walnut, leather and Carrara marble—adds museum-grade craftsmanship.
Pros
- Refined, non‑fatiguing treble from the DAD silk‑dome tweeter, giving detailed highs with low grain.
- Surprisingly deep, punchy low end for a stand‑mount, with authoritative output down into the 40–50Hz region.
- Handmade, high‑end construction—solid walnut, leather panels and Carrara marble base—plus premium crossover parts for artisan build quality.
&
Cons
- Premium price—speaker plus recommended stands places this at a near five‑figure outlay in many markets.
- Voicing is slightly tailored (a mild treble tilt) and can be less suited to very aggressive or heavily distorted music.
- Benefits noticeably from robust amplification—greater punch and extension with higher‑power, well‑matched amps.

Bass
92/100
For its size (180mm mid/woofer in a stand‑mount), reviewers repeatedly called the low end 'surprisingly deep' and 'smile‑inducing', with extension down toward 40–50Hz and authoritative punch (HTHi, Positive Feedback, SoundStage). Several reviewers likened its bass to much larger speakers and noted strong output when driven with power, supporting a high score relative to the speaker's form factor.
Mid
93/100
Multiple reviewers praised vocal timbre, presence and texture — calling voices 'liquid', 'fulsomely energetic' and 'spot‑on' (Positive Feedback, SoundStage Australia, HiFi News). The midband is described as richly detailed and emotionally engaging, delivering excellent body and decay on vocals and acoustic instruments.
Treble
89/100
The DAD 28mm silk dome is consistently called refined and sweet, with low harshness and good detail (HTHi, SoundStage, What Hi‑Fi). A few reviewers noted a slight upward tilt or a touch of brightness, but overall the treble is smooth, non‑fatiguing and well integrated with the midrange.
Soundstage Imaging
92/100
Reviewers report a holographic, wide and deep soundstage with precise image placement and instruments that 'disappear' into the room (HTHi, Positive Feedback, HiFi News). Several accounts highlight three‑dimensionality and excellent layering for a monitor of this size.
Dynamics
90/100
The Electa Amator III is described as very dynamic for a stand‑mount, able to play loudly without strain and deliver convincing micro‑ and macro‑dynamics when fed adequate power (HTHi, Positive Feedback, What Hi‑Fi). Reviewers note improved punch with higher‑power amplification.

Build Quality
95/100
Handmade Italian construction using solid walnut, leather, Carrara/Saint‑Laurent marble and brass is universally praised; crossover parts and overall fit/finish are described as artisan-level and reference-quality (HomeTheaterHifi, SoundStage, SoundStage Australia). The speakers are frequently called sculptural and museum‑grade in build.
Features Connectivity
83/100
Passive stand‑mount with dual pairs of quality binding posts allowing bi‑wire/bi‑amp (+2) and supplied dedicated stands (treated as OEM placement hardware +1) -> baseline passive score applied. No DSP/streaming expected for this category.
Value for Money
80/100
Price is high (reviews cite figures from ~$8,500–$10,000 up to $12k and regional variations), and reviewers call it expensive but justified by craftsmanship and musical performance; praised as a top monitor though not a budget bargain (HTHi, What Hi‑Fi, SoundStage). Value reflects premium price balanced against exceptional build and musicality.
