Schiit Audio Yggdrasil
Forget everything you know about DACs. Yggdrasil+'s unique True Multibit™ architecture combines integrated multibit D/A converters with a proprietary time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter. Together with the convenience of remote control, switchable NOS mode, and a fully modular platform, Yggdrasil+ gives you the best performance now—and in the future.
Choose From Two Flavors
Yggdrasil+ is available in two flavors, including one that costs the same as the original 2014 Yggdrasil—and provides higher performance, additional features, and remote control. Progress--without the price!
- Yggdrasil Less is More. The most affordable Yggdrasil uses four TI DAC8812 16-bit D/A converters.
- Yggdrasil More is Better. Simply the highest-performance multibit DAC in history. Uses four ultra-precision TI DAC11001B 20-bit D/A converters.
Unique True Multibit™ Performance
Both Yggdrasil+ versions use our True Multibit architecture, a unique combination of our proprietary time- and frequency-domain optimized digital filter and integrated, medical/defense grade multibit D/A converters. Yggdrasil’s DSP-based digital filter has a closed-form solution—it retains the original samples, performing a true interpolation. Only this digital filter gives you the best of both NOS and upsampling designs.
Convenience and Flexibility
Yggdrasil+ isn’t just about ultimate performance. At the same time, we’ve included 5 digital inputs, including our own Unison USB™ interface with complete electromagnetic and electrostatic isolation. Ease of access is assured with standard remote control, and we’ve provided features like absolute phase inversion and NOS mode so you can optimize for your individual system and recordings.
Fully Modular Architecture—Ready for the Future
Only Yggdrasil+ offers the flexibility and assurance of a truly modular architecture, both hardware and firmware. Literally every board—from input to output—is easily replaceable, with its uniquely reconfigurable chassis provides for future expandability. This unique upgradability gives you great performance now, and assurance for tomorrow.
Designed and Built in the USA
By “designed and built in the USA" this is what we mean: the vast majority of the total production cost of Yggdrasil—chassis, boards, assembly, etc—goes to US companies manufacturing in the US. Our chassis and transformers are made in California. Our PCBs are made in California or Nevada, and it all comes together in our San Antonio facility.
5-Year Warranty, Easy Returns
Yggdrasil+ is covered by a 5-year limited warranty that covers parts and labor. And if you don’t like your Yggdrasil, you can send it back for a refund, minus 5% restocking fee, within 15 days of receiving it.

The Yggdrasil delivers a lush, analog-like presentation with an especially compelling midrange, lifelike vocals, fast transients and wide soundstaging. Reviewers from Erich Wetzel to Dick Olsher praise its low noise floor, precise imaging and engaging dynamics, making it a musically persuasive multibit DAC for two-channel systems.
Pros
- Analog-like, musical tonality with a rich, natural midrange and convincing vocal presentation.
- High resolution and quick transient response yields detailed imaging and excellent instrument separation.
- Robust build and fully modular, upgradeable architecture (Analog 2 / Yggy+ options) for long-term value.
- Well-executed USB/clock implementation and low noise floor produce a cohesive, black-background presentation.

Cons
- No DSD support and limited to PCM up to 24/192, which constrains format flexibility for some users.
- No built-in variable volume or remote control—fixed outputs mean you’ll likely need a separate preamp.
- Occasional audible ticks/pops between tracks during muting were reported as harmless but noticeable in some setups.
Sound Quality
90/100
Weighted average of sub-criteria below.
Tonal Balance and Musicality
92/100
Multiple reviewers describe the Yggdrasil as 'analog-like', musical, and highly engaging (SoundStage Solo: 'most “analog”-sounding DAC', Positive Feedback: 'infuses detail with musicality'). The midrange is repeatedly praised for naturalness and sweetness (Audiophilepure, The Absolute Sound). Overall tonal balance is smooth and forgiving while remaining transparent.
Resolution and Detail
90/100
Reviewers consistently report strong micro- and macro-detail: 'clearer and more detailed', 'inner detail and outside-the-speaker magic' (SoundStage Solo, Future Audiophile, Audiophilepure). Transients and imaging are described as precise with good instrument separation.
Digital Performance
88/100
Clocking and USB implementation earn praise (Audiophile Style: Unison USB works perfectly; SoundStage Solo: bit-perfect clock regeneration). Noise floor and black-background performance are highlighted (Positive Feedback, Audiophile Style). Minor issues noted: audible ticks/pops during pauses or track changes (Future Audiophile) and limited format support (24/192 max, no DSD), which temper a perfect score.

Build Quality
90/100
Consistently praised chassis, heavy 25-lb construction, dual transformers and extensive regulated supplies, discrete Class-A analog options on OG/Analog2 variants (Future Audiophile, SoundStage Solo, Positive Feedback). Reviewers find fit/finish and internal design to be robust and well executed. Minor ergonomic quibbles (no remote, some labeling nitpicks) do not materially detract from core build quality.
Features Connectivity
80/100
Well-featured for a pure DAC: Unison USB, AES/EBU XLR, coaxial SPDIF (RCA), BNC SPDIF, optical TosLink; one balanced XLR pair and two RCA pairs of analog outputs; selectable digital filter and NOS mode; LEDs indicating sample rate. Lacks DSD/MQA decoding, no volume control/variable output, no headphone output, no network streaming or remote. The configuration is strong for a focused DAC but not a full-featured streamer/preamp.
Value for Money
90/100
Multiple reviewers explicitly praise the Yggdrasil's price-to-performance: 'beats just about everything at its selling price' (Future Audiophile), 'marries affordability to exceptional sound quality' (SoundStage Solo), and 'set the bar for what a reasonably priced audiophile DAC can achieve' (Audiophilepure). While it's a significant purchase, reviewers repeatedly call it an excellent value within its segment.
