Scansonic MB6 B

Denmark flag
View at Scansonic

The MB6 B is the Scansonic flagship speaker. Tall, slim and elegantly curved it follows the core of traditions in Danish loudspeaker design. The design is centered around the ultra light moving mass sealed ribbon tweeter, that has unique speed, resolution and dynamic transient capability. This makes for a very transparent and highly detailed reproduction of the finest details in the program material.

The MB6 B boasts a powerful lineup of 6 x 5,25” carbon coned dynamic drivers, arranged in a power sharing line array.

The inner pair of the driver covers the midrange up to where the tweeter takes over and as you move out from the center the driver cowers more and more of the lower registries.

In the deepest bass the line array boast a total membrane area larger than a 12” driver, but still with the speed and agility of the smaller drivers. This makes the MB6 B have outstanding capabilities even in the deepest bass.

The MB6 B is an incredible music performer with an impact an authority the will leave you breathless.

Fabric grillfronts can be supplied as an additional accessory.

Deliciously Crispy

An airy, ultra-precise top end and surprisingly tight, weighty bass define the MB6 B, driven by a fast ribbon tweeter and multiple carbon‑fibre woofers that yield excellent driver integration and a broad, deep soundstage. Reviewers from HiFi News and StereoNET praise its speed, clarity and musicality, though position and amp choice matter.

HiFi News

"but these tall, slender speakers don't just look fabulous: they also deliver the music – any music – with real vitality and impact."

Pros

  • Airy, refined highs from the low‑mass ribbon tweeter deliver superb detail and sparkle without glare.
  • Surprisingly tight, weighty bass and good low‑end extension for a slim cabinet, achieved via multiple carbon‑fibre woofers.
  • Excellent driver integration and a broad, well‑layered soundstage that preserves ambience and instrument placement.

&

Cons

  • Bass is placement‑sensitive — benefits from boundary reinforcement or careful positioning near room corners.
  • Premium price (~£8,999) makes excellent performance a significant investment.
  • Performs best with robust amplification — reviewers recommend >50W to fully realize dynamics and control.

Sound Quality

94/100

Bass

94/100

Multiple reviewers praised the surprisingly deep, well-weighted low end (spec sheet lists 27Hz response and the cabinet uses four 5.25" woofers in a vented, heavily braced box). Reports note punch, tight drum slam and room-shaking extension for a slim cabinet; placement sensitivity was mentioned so a small -1 placement caveat was considered.

Mid

94/100

Consensus describes a transparent, neutral and well-integrated midband with excellent driver integration (two dedicated mid drivers above/below the tweeter). Vocals and instruments are rendered naturally and coherently across levels, with reviewers not finding any midrange forwardness.

Treble

95/100

The ribbon tweeter is repeatedly singled out as a highlight: fast, airy, delicate and precise with no perceived glare. Reviewers credit its speed and low mass for refined highs, fine detail and a sense of air that complements the midband.

Soundstage Imaging

93/100

Reviews describe a broad, deep and well-layered soundstage with accurate instrument placement and convincing room ambience. The line-array approach and time-alignment claim appear to deliver excellent imaging and a believable sense of space.

Dynamics

93/100

Critics report lively micro- and macro-dynamics: snappy percussion, strong attack/decay, and the ability to 'rock out' without flabbiness at higher volumes. Smaller driver masses are cited as aiding control and transient agility.

Build Quality

92/100

Cabinets are described as stylish, heavily braced and quiet, with quality finishes and deliberate tapering to reduce standing waves. Driver materials (woven carbon cones, stiff construction) and solid engineering are repeatedly noted.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive tower baseline applied. No bi-wire/contour switches or DSP/app streaming mentioned; efficiency (90dB) and 4Ω nominal impedance are stated, and reviewers recommend robust amplification (>50W).

Value for Money

70/100

Performance is high, but the asking price (~£8,999) is repeatedly noted as expensive ('small car money'), so value is tempered: outstanding sound but at a premium compared with many peers.
