Revel M106
Revel Performa3 bookshelf loudspeakers are true full-range loudspeakers that feature small footprints and sleek designs, allowing them to blend-in easily with your existing décor. They deliver an impressive combination of wide frequency range, uncompressed dynamic range and low distortion across the entire audible spectrum.
Revel M106 low-frequency transducers feature distortion reduction mechanisms that stabilize the flux field during operation, assuring low distortion even at high listening volumes. These precision transducers utilize ribbed aluminum cones for ideal piston-like behavior that eliminates a major source of resonances that are clearly audible in most other loudspeakers.
Their cast aluminum frames eliminate another source of resonances that is common in many lesser-quality loudspeakers. These loudspeakers employ a sophisticated fluid-model designed low-frequency port with identical flares on both ends. This greatly minimizes dynamic compression and port-generated noise, assuring low-distortion low-frequency performance.
The M106's tweeter has been created around a newly designed motor and dome assembly that sets a new standard of transparency for speakers anywhere near the Performa3’s class. The tweeter’s integrated acoustic lens waveguide is based on a breakthrough mathematical approach that accurately matches the tweeter’s dispersion to that of the low-frequency transducer in the crossover region.
This gives the loudspeaker very smooth sound far off-axis – an important contributor to overall sound quality, providing consistent sound over an exceptionally wide listening area. In fact, this new waveguide actually increases the tweeter’s dispersion at higher frequencies.
The M106 is housed in enclosures that are similar to our flagship Ultima2 Series. These fully-curved enclosures are inherently stiffer than conventional box shapes and are formed with contiguous wood layers that prevent splitting. They feature strategically-oriented bracing that eliminates the possibility of enclosure-induced coloration. These beautiful, modern enclosures are finished in high-gloss piano black, high-gloss piano white or genuine American walnut in a process (developed and overseen by Italian luxury cabinet makers) that exceeds automotive finish quality.
The loudspeaker grilles are designed to minimize sonic diffraction or veiling and provide a clean, subtle appearance. The magnetic grille attachment method completely eliminates ugly hardware on the loudspeaker baffle, so if you decide to use the loudspeakers without grilles they will look like they were designed to be used without grilles.

Bench‑marked anechoic accuracy and a finely tuned waveguide give the Revel M106 a remarkably neutral, detailed midband with wide, stable dispersion. Reviewers including David A. Rich, Ph.D. and Philip Beaudette praise its smooth spectral balance, waveguide integration and surprising bass extension for a bookshelf, making it a benchmark small‑monitor.
Pros
- State‑of‑the‑art anechoic accuracy and a consistently smooth midband that yields highly neutral, revealing presentation.
- Acoustic‑lens waveguide produces wide, controlled dispersion and excellent imaging, preserving timbre off‑axis.
- Unusually strong low‑end for a 6.5" bookshelf with low distortion that integrates smoothly with a subwoofer when crossed at ~80Hz.
&
Cons
- A narrow feature in the 4.5–6.5kHz region from the tweeter/waveguide transition can be audible on‑axis to some listeners.
- Bass reach and impact depend on room and placement; in some rooms the low end can seem light without wall proximity or a subwoofer.

Bass
92/100
Ported 6.5" woofer yields exceptional extension for its size: reviewers report bass extension to ~35Hz in small rooms and smooth, low-distortion output that integrates well with a subwoofer at an 80Hz LR4 crossover. Measurements show -6dB around 48–50Hz in a large room, so while outstanding for a ported bookshelf, low-end will depend on room/placement.
Mid
94/100
Multiple measurements and listening impressions describe a smooth spectral balance and near-anechoic accuracy through the midband with minimal coloration; crossover behavior around 2–3kHz is well controlled, preserving vocal presence and detail.
Treble
90/100
Tweeter/waveguide shows a 4.5–6.5kHz feature that reviewers identify as a dispersion transition rather than a resonance; no tweeter resonance to 10kHz and overall refined, non-harsh high end with some roll-off above 6kHz that recovers on-axis past 10kHz.
Soundstage Imaging
93/100
Reviewer notes excellent imaging and orchestral detail—'as clearly as I have heard'—with stable vertical/horizontal radiation patterns from the waveguide and in-room response that remains consistent across placements; sub integration is localization-free when crossed at 80Hz.
Dynamics
90/100
No audible dynamic compression reported in listening tests; the woofer shows good excursion capacity though reviewer felt cone movement at low crossovers (solved with supplied port stuffer). Performs dynamically well for the form factor, especially when used with proper bass management.

Build Quality
91/100
Quality components and engineering: aluminum cone woofer, cast frame, acoustic lens waveguide and high-gloss/piano finishes. Waveguide and crossover design aid integration and measured performance, indicating solid cabinet and driver implementation.
Features Connectivity
81/100
Passive bookshelf baseline applied (80) with +1 for an included tweeter level control; binding-post terminals and rear-firing port present. No DSP/streaming expected or penalized for passive design.
Value for Money
90/100
Reviewer language emphasizes strong price/performance and states the M106 'exceeds the measured performance of almost all these speakers within its bandwidth limit.' Price not provided, but measured/listening performance vs peers is repeatedly praised.
