Revel Performa3 bookshelf loudspeakers are true full-range loudspeakers that feature small footprints and sleek designs, allowing them to blend-in easily with your existing décor. They deliver an impressive combination of wide frequency range, uncompressed dynamic range and low distortion across the entire audible spectrum.

Revel M105 low-frequency transducers feature distortion reduction mechanisms that stabilize the flux field during operation, assuring low distortion even at high listening volumes. These precision transducers utilize ribbed aluminum cones for ideal piston-like behavior that eliminates a major source of resonances that are clearly audible in most other loudspeakers.

Their cast aluminum frames eliminate another source of resonances that is common in many lesser-quality loudspeakers. These loudspeakers employ a sophisticated fluid-model designed low-frequency port with identical flares on both ends. This greatly minimizes dynamic compression and port-generated noise, assuring low-distortion low-frequency performance.

The M105 is tweeter has been created around a newly designed motor and dome assembly that sets a new standard of transparency for speakers anywhere near the Performa3’s class. The tweeter’s integrated acoustic lens waveguide is based on a breakthrough mathematical approach that accurately matches the tweeter’s dispersion to that of the low-frequency transducer in the crossover region.

This gives the loudspeaker very smooth sound far off-axis – an important contributor to overall sound quality, providing consistent sound over an exceptionally wide listening area. In fact, this new waveguide actually increases the tweeter’s dispersion at higher frequencies.

The M105 is housed in enclosures that are similar to our flagship Ultima2 Series. These fully-curved enclosures are inherently stiffer than conventional box shapes and are formed with contiguous wood layers that prevent splitting. They feature strategically-oriented bracing that eliminates the possibility of enclosure-induced coloration. These beautiful, modern enclosures are finished in high-gloss piano black, high-gloss piano white or genuine American walnut in a process (developed and overseen by Italian luxury cabinet makers) that exceeds automotive finish quality.

The loudspeaker grilles are designed to minimize sonic diffraction or veiling and provide a clean, subtle appearance. The magnetic grille attachment method completely eliminates ugly hardware on the loudspeaker baffle, so if you decide to use the loudspeakers without grilles they will look like they were designed to be used without grilles.

Overall Score 90/100

Rating for [object Object]

Nicely Roasted

The Revel M105 delivers an exceptionally flat midrange and airy, low‑distortion treble, yielding precise imaging and surprising dynamic headroom for a compact bookshelf speaker. Reviewers like Jim Clements praise its detailed, non‑fatiguing top end and solid build, while noting limited low‑end extension that favors adding a subwoofer.

HomeTheaterHifi

"The M105's were smooth and composed under fire."

Pros

  • Airy, low‑distortion treble with good off‑axis extension that stays smooth and non‑fatiguing.
  • Exceptionally communicative midrange and overall flat response (notably smooth from ~300Hz–24kHz) for lifelike timbre.
  • Impressive imaging and soundstage precision for a bookshelf design, with clear instrument separation and a convincing phantom center.

&

Cons

  • Limited deep bass below ~60Hz—benefits from a quality subwoofer for large orchestral or very low‑frequency content.

Sound Quality

90/100

Bass

86/100

5.25" woofer and rear port; review notes the bass "rolls off below 60Hz" and is "satisfying within its abilities." For a small 5.25" bookshelf the low-frequency extension (-3dB@60Hz) is competent and controlled but limited below 60Hz, matching the reviewer comment that it can’t fully define very large halls.

Mid

92/100

Reviewers repeatedly praise the M105's midband: "incredibly communicative," "smooth, natural frequency balance," and "faithful, low distortion reproduction of the lead violin." The measured flat on-axis response from 300Hz–24kHz supports accurate, detailed midrange timbre.

Treble

90/100

Aluminum 1" tweeter with waveguide and reviewer data show low distortion and good off-axis extension: "communicative, airy and not one bit edgy," and off-axis response nearly as smooth as on-axis. Treble is refined with good extension and no reported brightness or sibilance.

Soundstage Imaging

93/100

Strong imaging evidence: "all five instruments broke free of the speakers," "superior imaging led to an uncanny phantom 'center'," and easy differentiation of closely-timed drum kits. Review impressions indicate wide, stable staging and precise image focus for a bookshelf form factor.

Dynamics

89/100

Reviewer: "no audible compression even at near live levels" and "designed to handle higher SPLs with little dynamic compression." For a small-reflex bookshelf with 86dB sensitivity, dynamics are impressive though the sensitivity/recommended power (50–120W) suggest amp choice matters for maximum headroom.

Build Quality

92/100

Performa3 cabinets use real wood finishes and cast-frame woofer; reviewer heard no "ragged, flabby sound of cone breakup." Finish options (Piano Black/White, High Gloss Walnut) and component quality indicate strong fit-and-finish and solid cabinet construction.

Features Connectivity

81/100

Passive bookshelf baseline applied (single binding-post pair = 80). Reviewer notes the speakers "come with port plugs to plug the rear ports," earning the +1 adjustment. Passive design—no DSP/app penalties applied.

Value for Money

88/100

Reviewer calls them "a major contender in their class" and says they'd be on a short list even with a budget "as high as $3,000," indicating strong perceived value versus peers. Without an exact street price in the data, value is rated high based on reviewer recommendation and class positioning rather than a price-specific bargain claim.
