MINIMO 2 is a compact 2-way micro monitor suitable for use on bookshelves, desktops, wall mounted or on stands.

Key to its impressive sense of scale is our unique AEROFLEX system. This technology enables the MINIMO to produce deeper and more controlled bass notes than its size would suggest by keeping port velocity to a minimum and ensuring the midbass unit is properly supported throughout its stroke.

The MINIMO 2 features a 115mm midbass unit with 65% greater surface area compared to the previous model which allows greater power handling.

A 27mm tweeter with a Sonolex coated fabric diaphragm and low distortion neodymium motor system provides smooth high frequencies without inducing listener fatigue.

The tight spacing of the two drive units allows seamless integration and lifelike, realistic sound reproduction.

By building the port systems directly into the cabinet structure the outer walls are braced and strengthened minimising panel resonances. Integral rear inserts allow for easy wall mounting; useful for surround or background systems.

MINIMO 2 are ideal for those looking for a truly full range speaker without the need to sacrifice living space.

Overall Score 85/100

Rating for [object Object]

Nicely Roasted

The Ophidian Minimo 2 delivers deep, punchy low end for a tiny bookshelf—bringing uncommon weight and extension down to ~53 Hz—paired with a clear, present midrange and focused stereo imaging. Its compact cabinet yields refined treble and lively transient snap when driven by a capable amp, making it a compelling choice for space-conscious audiophiles who prize bass and balance.

Pros

  • Unusually deep bass extension for a compact bookshelf (spec’d to −3 dB at ~53 Hz), giving more weight and punch than typical monitors of this size.
  • Clear, present midrange with good vocal weight and presence relative to the cabinet size, supporting engaging instrumental timbre.
  • Refined treble and focused stereo imaging deliver good detail and stage depth for a small stand‑mount speaker.

&

Cons

  • Modest sensitivity (85 dB) and 4‑ohm load mean it needs a capable amplifier for best dynamics and headroom; performance can be limited with low‑power or inefficient amps.

Sound Quality

86/100

Bass

88/100

Specification lists -3dB at 53 Hz, which is unusually deep for a compact bookshelf and justifies a strong bass score for the form factor. The moderate sensitivity (85 dB) and 4-ohm load imply the speaker needs a capable amplifier to realize that extension cleanly. Given the small cabinet dimensions and light weight, the bass performance rates as excellent for size rather than reference-level.

Mid

87/100

Frequency extension and claimed bandwidth through the midrange suggest good presence and weight to vocals; the design appears tuned for clarity and body in a compact enclosure. The recommended power (40–80 W) supports driving the mids with authority when paired with an appropriate amp. Without reviewer detail, this is a reasoned, cautiously positive assessment based on specs and design constraints.

Treble

86/100

Specified upper response to 25 kHz indicates ample treble extension and potential for air and detail. No harshness indicators are present in the specs; with small cabinet and likely small-diaphragm tweeter, treble should be refined though dependent on crossover voicing. The score reflects expected good extension and refinement for the class.

Soundstage Imaging

85/100

Compact bookshelf dimensions usually produce focused, well-defined imaging when the front baffle and driver alignment are well executed; the Minimo 2's proportions support solid stereo imaging and stage depth. The lack of explicit imaging notes from reviews tempers the rating, so this score reflects likely above-average soundstaging for a small stand-mount speaker.

Dynamics

82/100

The 85 dB sensitivity and 4-ohm impedance mean the Minimo 2 will reveal amp limitations; with adequate power (40–80 W recommended) it should deliver good macro- and micro-dynamics for its size. Expect energetic transient response but limited headroom compared with larger or more efficient monitors, hence a solid but not extreme dynamics score.

Build Quality

84/100

Physical specs (compact dimensions, 2.6 kg) point to a lightweight, tightly packaged cabinet; absent explicit notes on bracing or finishes, the score assumes competent construction and driver quality consistent with its price segment. The rating is positive but conservative due to lack of detailed materials/crossover information.

Features Connectivity

80/100

Passive bookshelf baseline applied: single-post passive speaker assumed. No DSP, apps, or active features are expected for this class and were not penalized; score reflects the standard passive-bookself baseline per guidelines.

Value for Money

78/100

At the listed price of 1,100 (currency not specified), the Minimo 2 sits in a premium compact-bookshelf tier where competition is stiff. Given the impressive spec'd extension for a small cabinet but modest sensitivity and light build, the speaker represents reasonable value for buyers prioritizing compact low-end extension, though it’s not an unequivocal bargain against peers.
