The Masters M28 Seven Channel Power Amplifier epitomises the ultimate in what is possible with today’s amplification techonology. It is one of the very first amplifiers to employ Purifi’s Eigentakt™ amplifier technology.

Rated conservatively at 200W per channel (8 ohms) and well over 320W dynamic power (8 ohms; all channels driven), the result is breath-taking, lifelike surround sound performance, be it from the latest action-packed film with tremendous dynamics or a subtle classical piece with delicate and detailed passages. The M28 can accept both balanced and single-ended inputs, and features high-quality binding posts for speaker connection. The compact dimensions of this highly energy-efficient design belie the massive amount of power available for the most demanding music and movies.

Purifi Eigentakt Amplification

The Masters M28 uses Eigentakt™ amplifier technology, manufactured by NAD in license from Purifi. This new technology, which NAD was the first to embrace for the M33 Masters Series Streaming Amplifier, adds another level of precision by taking into account previously unknown effects of the output filter in the feedback loop and further refinement of the self-oscillating Class D technology as used by previous NAD Hybrid Digital designs. The result is a performance level that approaches the theoretical limit in measured performance, be it at whispering levels or at full power.

In common with the previous generations of NAD Hybrid Digital technology but unlike most class D amplifier designs, the M28 is impervious to the loudspeaker load it is presented with, maintaining the same wide and even bandwidth response irrespective of the speaker’s impedance and at the same time providing high current capability. The continuous 200W into 8 ohms on tap for all channels driven at the same time and 700W dynamic power into 4 ohms is testament to this.

Inherent to the Eigentakt™ technology is its very analogue-like behaviour in the unlikely event the amplifier is driven into clipping. Whereas many class D designs can become unstable, Eigentakt™ behaves in a way similar to the benign way of clipping with instant recovery of well executed traditional class A/B amplifiers.

The sonic character of the M28 only reinforces the story told by the numbers. This is an amazingly powerful and transparent amplifier bringing new levels of refinement and dynamics at any level.

Fully Balanced Audio

The same efficient audio interface used by studios provides the highest level of signal integrity with the lowest noise floor.

Locking connectors and special interface electronics allow long cable runs without noise pickup or signal loss. All you get is awesome sound without the possibility of noise pickup or interference.

Effortless Power

As our most powerful amplifier ever, the M28 can pump out over 700W into difficult loads to follow complex dynamic peaks in your movies and music. Everything from rim shots to asteroid explosions sound remarkably real and immersive.

The M28 has power reserves to meet the demands of the latest high-resolution digital soundtracks. Thanks to the advanced Purifi Eigentakt™ amplifier technology, all this monster power comes at a lot less cost than traditional technology and delivers more power and performance!

NAD M28 — Seven‑channel reference‑class power

The NAD M28 pairs seven of NAD’s in‑house Purifi Eigentakt Class‑D modules with conservative, reference‑style engineering to deliver visceral headroom and exceptional clarity. Reviewers from Chris Eberle, SoundStage Solo, and Tony O'Brien highlight its ability to drive demanding loads without strain, revealing microdetail while retaining musical warmth. Imaging is wide and coherent, making film soundtracks and complex orchestral passages feel three‑dimensional. The M28’s brushed two‑tone chassis, per‑channel XLR/RCA inputs and robust binding posts reflect thoughtful industrial design and rack‑friendly dimensions. Ideal for serious home‑theater systems and multi‑channel music setups, the M28 offers reference dynamics and neutrality across seven channels, making it a compelling choice for audiophiles seeking power, precision, and long‑term system flexibility.

HomeTheaterHifi

"It may be the last multi-channel amplifier you’ll ever buy."

Pros

  • Reference‑level dynamics and headroom across seven channels; drives demanding speakers without audible strain.
  • Extremely neutral yet musical presentation with high resolution and low grain, preserving microdetail and natural timbre.
  • Robust, well‑thought‑out build and connectivity: solid chassis, per‑channel XLR/RCA inputs and high‑quality binding posts for clean installations.

&

Cons

  • Channel ID markings are small and can be hard to read once speaker cables are connected, which complicates setup.
  • Warranty length noted as relatively short in one review, which may concern buyers seeking longer coverage.

Dynamics

95/100

Reviewers consistently praised the M28's headroom and authority: StereoNET described "limitless amounts of power" and "earth‑moving volume levels," while HomeTheaterHifi noted that soft passages retain delicacy and loud material stays clean. Specs back this up (≥220 W/ch into 8 Ω, ≥400 W into 4 Ω, IHF dynamic power to 560 W into 4 Ω and a very high damping factor >750), and reviewers reported it driving difficult loads without strain, so dynamics are essentially reference‑level for a high‑power Class‑D multichannel amp.

Soundstage Imaging

94/100

Reviewers reported a broad, highly coherent soundfield: HomeTheaterHifi and SoundStage Solo both noted expanded soundstage and holographic depth, with instruments and dialog precisely placed in a 360° presentation. The amp's clarity and neutrality let microdetail and placement shine even at high levels, supporting a very high imaging score.

Build Quality

92/100

Build and engineering were praised—StereoNET noted thoughtful industrial design and high‑quality finish, and the amp uses NAD's in‑house Purifi Eigentakt modules and a substantial chassis (21.2 kg) suggesting robust power‑supply and thermal design. No thermal or reliability issues were reported in reviews; combined with high measured damping factor and solid connectivity, the M28 rates very highly for construction and internal design.

Value for Money

95/100

Reviewers were emphatic about value: HomeTheaterHifi called the M28 "a tremendous value" (review referenced a $4,999 price), StereoNET labelled it "outstanding value for money," and SoundStage Solo compared it favorably to competing amps at similar cost. Even using the product datasheet price point ($6,999), the combination of seven reference‑level channels (≥220 W/8 Ω, ≥400 W/4 Ω), Purifi Eigentakt modules, and the consistently high sonic performance reviewers report supports a strong value judgment in its competitive segment.
