Muarah MU-2
phono stage uses J-FET transistor in parallel with 6922 tube in input stage. Together with 6922 tube second stage and MOSFET as source follower 56dB amplification factor was achieved. In practice it fits 0,2mV and higher voltage MC carts and all Moving Magnet (MM) carts. Thanks to advanced 240V stabilized power supply the sound of MU-2 is really good: low hum and noise much lower than generated by vinyl record itself. Side to side comparison to transistor preamps was positive for MU-2. MU-2 is more dynamic and neutral. When additionally pure “analogue” design will be taken into account then vinyl record listening satisfaction is guaranteed. Front panel was made of polished glass. MU-2 chassis was made of polished acid-resistant stainless steel. Power supply module together with toroidal transformer were separated from the rest of electronics by additional metal shield.

Muarah MU-2 — relaxed, musical tube phono stage
The MU-2 delivers a warm, engaging analog presentation built around a low-noise, tube-driven topology. Reviewers led by Ian White praise its solid build and cartridge versatility, with 56/43 dB MC/MM gain and selectable MC impedances accessible via an easy front-panel dial. Sonically the MU-2 favors a relaxed midrange with textured, palpable vocals, a slightly softened treble, and punchy but not ultra-tight bass; imaging and pacing are strong, so energetic material retains impact and drive. Physically it’s a polished stainless-steel chassis with recessed RCAs and dimmable tube backlighting, feeling heavier than its 4 kg weight. Ideal for listeners seeking a musical, easy-to-match phono stage rather than ultra-analytical neutrality, the MU-2 offers quiet operation, practical cartridge loading, and boutique build quality that competes well in its price band.
Pros
- Very low noise tube stage that preserves musical transparency and a quiet background.
- Excellent cartridge compatibility and usability — 56/43 dB gain with multiple MC impedances and an easy front-panel selector.
- Robust, well-engineered chassis with polished stainless-steel finish, recessed RCAs and thoughtful ergonomics.

Cons
- Top end is slightly softened versus ultra-analytical preamps, so system and cartridge matching is important.
- Bass has good impact but can lack the tightest definition compared with more neutral competitors.
Transparency
90/100
Reviewers specifically called the MU-2 "remarkably quiet," which supports a very low perceived noise floor despite its tube topology. The spec sheet shows MC RMS noise (A-weighted, input shorted) of -80 dBV, which is respectable for a tube MC-capable stage and matches the reviewer's impression of very low noise. There is some reviewer commentary about a mild treble softness and slightly relaxed top end, so while the background is quiet, the tonality is not ultra-analytical.
Sound Quality
88/100
The MU-2 was praised for pacing and ability to keep up with energetic material (Metallica, Green Day, Kraftwerk), indicating strong micro- and macro-dynamic performance. While bass impact is present, reviewers noted definition could be improved, which mildly limits the very top-end of punchy precision.
Cartridge Compatibility
92/100
Full MM/MC support with specified gains of 43 dB (MM) and 56 dB (MC), MM loading at 47k/120 pF, and multiple MC input impedance options (50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 Ω). The front-panel selector dial makes switching gain/impedance easy on the fly, giving excellent practical compatibility with a wide variety of cartridges.
Build Quality
92/100
Construction is described as a solid metal chassis of polished acid-resistant stainless steel with a polished glass front and top ventilation; unit feels heavier than its listed weight and "built like a tank." The physical quality and practical rear-panel layout (recessed RCAs, single ground post) reinforce a high build standard.
Value for Money
90/100
At about $2,150 the reviewer called the MU-2 "an extremely competitive option" in a crowded segment up to $2,500, noting quiet operation, solid build and ease of adjustment. That language supports a justified-premium assessment: it competes well with peers and offers features and performance that reviewers felt matched its price.
