With 200 Watts per channel, 15 inputs and a high-performance AM/FM tuner, the MAC7200 Receiver is a music lover’s dream. We’ve been making tuners since the 1950s and they are one of the hallmarks of McIntosh, with the groundbreaking MR78 FM Tuner from 1972 considered an all-time classic in the audio industry. The built-in AM/FM tuner in the MAC7200 comes from that same illustrious line of McIntosh tuners and will pick up your favorite radio stations with unparalleled clarity and a realism that is free from noise and distortion.
The MAC7200's advanced signal quality monitor can display the multipath and noise levels of the incoming RF signal to help fine tune antenna placement for optimal reception. Dedicated PRESET and TUNING knobs enable easy radio operation. The FM tuner includes Radio Data System (RDS) support, allowing it to display optional information sent by radio stations such as the station’s name and call letters as well as the name of the artist and song being played. It features 20 presets for each radio band as well as a remote AM antenna.
The 15 inputs are comprised of both analog and digital input types. For analog, there is 1 balanced and 5 unbalanced inputs plus 1 Moving Coil and 1 Moving Magnet input to connect turntables. For digital, there are 2 coaxial and 2 optical inputs, 1 USB, 1 proprietary MCT input (for use with our MCT500 SACD/CD Transport), and 1 audio-only HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) connection. All inputs can be given custom names for user-friendly system control and configuration. The digital inputs are contained in our DA2 Digital Audio Module.
At the heart of the DA2 is a powerful 8-channel, 32-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) used in Quad Balanced mode. PCM signals up to 32-bit/384kHz can be played via the USB input, allowing for playback of high resolution audio up to DSD512 and DXD 384kHz levels. The coax and optical inputs support up to 24-bit/192kHz files.
Our striking Monogrammed Heatsinks™ are included and they not only make a visual statement, but they are also very efficient at dissipating heat – which is why they warrant bearing the McIntosh “Mc” logo. They are connected to advanced high current output transistors that eliminate warm-up time so the MAC7200 is ready to go from the moment you turn it on. Other McIntosh technologies found in the MAC7200 include our Autoformer™ to deliver the full 200 Watts to each of your speakers regardless of their impedance, Power Guard, Sentry Monitor™, Home Theater PassThru, bass and treble tone controls, High Drive headphone amplifier with Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD), and gold-plated speaker binding posts.
The MAC7200 is one of many McIntosh products to receive Roon Tested designation from Roon Labs. As a Roon Tested partner, McIntosh has provided equipment to Roon for testing with a variety of different operating systems and computers, and shared information about its design and capabilities.
The entire unit is wrapped in the timeless McIntosh appearance with blue watt meters, a black glass front panel with aluminum end caps, control knobs and illuminated logo. Contact your local dealer to learn more.
- The HDMI (ARC) input will only play audio from a compatible TV. It will not pass video to or from a TV, or play audio from any non-TV source.

McIntosh MAC7200 2-Channel Receiver
The MAC7200 is an all-in-one, high-power stereo receiver that blends McIntosh tradition with modern flexibility. Its most striking quality is authoritative, musical output—driven by 200 W per channel and Autoformer technology—delivering controlled, explosive transients and a warm, engaging midrange noted by TONEAudio MAGAZINE and Audiophilepure. The onboard quad-balanced 32-bit/384kHz DAC, USB, MCT and HDMI-ARC inputs, plus a full MM/MC phono stage with adjustable MC loading, give exceptional connectivity and vinyl capability. Reviewers praised precise imaging, depth and a forgiving tonal balance that makes most recordings sound musical. Built with a dual-layer chassis, output meters and classic McIntosh craftsmanship, it suits listeners who want single-box convenience, can drive demanding speakers, and intend to keep gear for decades—an investment in sonic versatility and longevity.
Pros
- Powerful, controlled dynamics and headroom capable of driving difficult speaker loads, thanks to 200 W per channel and Autoformer output technology.
- Exceptionally comprehensive digital and analog connectivity — quad-balanced DAC, USB, MCT input, HDMI-ARC and Roon compatibility — covering modern and legacy sources.
- High-quality MM/MC phono stage with adjustable MC loading and very low noise, enabling growth with better cartridges and multiple turntable setups.
&
Cons
- A slightly relaxed, warm tonal presentation that may not satisfy listeners seeking the most ultra-analytic, microscope-like detail.
Sound Quality
92/100
Dynamics
93/100
With 200 W/ch and McIntosh Autoformer output technology, reviewers report explosive, controlled transients and authoritative bass (Audiophilepure: "explosive dynamics" on film scores; TONEAudio: "200 watts per channel assures you can drive anything"). Specs (200 W into 2/4/8 ohms, 2 dB dynamic headroom, damping factor >40) back the impressions of strong headroom and control, allowing it to drive difficult loads.
Soundstage Imaging
91/100
Both reviews highlight precise imaging and a convincing soundstage (Audiophilepure: precise placement of guitars, bass and percussion; TONEAudio: "magic it brings to every recording"). The combination of detailed DAC and robust amplification produces stable, well-focused images with good depth and width.

Build Quality
95/100
McIntosh build quality is repeatedly praised (TONEAudio: "made in America quality"; emphasis on repairability and longevity), and the heavy dual-layer chassis, Autoformer output, analog meters and substantial weight (75 lbs) underline premium construction. The unit’s mechanical and component quality is reference-class for the brand and is reflected in long-term support reputation.
Features Connectivity
95/100
Exceptionally well equipped: high-quality quad-balanced DAC (32-bit/384kHz, DSD support), USB, multiple coax/optical inputs, MCT input, HDMI-ARC, full MM+MC phono with adjustable MC loading, 1/4" high-drive headphone with HXD, Home Theater PassThru and Roon compatibility noted by reviewers. By the scoring rules this packs into the 'fully-featured' top band and is capped at the 95 upper bound.
Value for Money
90/100
Reviewers call the MAC7200 a "killer value" and "major bargain" (TONEAudio), referring to a street price of ~$7,500; however product data lists an MSRP around $9,500. Given the exceptional features, build, and sound the unit represents a strong, justified premium for buyers in the McIntosh segment, but the higher MSRP tempers the 'absolute bargain' characterization.
